Steely Dan - Reeling in the Years - Cover
I have been working on this tune for weeks now, to eventually perform it live with my trio. I decided to post this as a template (of sorts), for anyone else looking to do the same thing. The guitar work is daunting enough, but then I had to fold in the lyrics, as well as working pedal settings on the fly! The guitar work is not note for note, as the studio version has many well paced dubs. My main objective was to find ways to preserve all the key fills and solos while still managing to juggle the singing! There are plenty of great RUclips videos dissecting the guitar work in this tune. My point was NOT to add yet another. I thought this video might be of help to anyone else who has also ...

      Yes, that is an awesome jam! I love those early cuts when Clapton was playing an SG, before the Strat took hold of him. • @fenderbender8556
      @fenderbender8556 3 месяца назад

      In his DVD, Frank was using Dimarzio "Virtual Vintage". They were cutting edge back then. He has since delved into Lindy Fralins, I think due to my recommendation. I don't know which models he settled on. I have the "Sunbucker" in the neck position. One PU generates 80% of the signal. The other one acts as a humbucking influence, without warping the tone! (Best of both worlds!). I can remember which of his pure humbuckers I put in the bridge slot. Call Lindy. He's a VERY cool guy, and will spend time on the phone with you!

      @@fenderbender8556 Frank's tone in the Agora concert is unreal, one of the best single coil tones I've ever heard. His tone really evolved over the years. In the 70s his sound on his albums sounded pretty much like your basic classic rock tone but live from the videos I've seen and from what I've heard from those who were at those shows is he had a live tone like no one else. He was still mainly using buckers in those days, either Gibsons PAFs and for a while DiMarzio Super Distortions. But he began putting single coils in some of his SGs in the 80s. He also used solid state power amps, some of which he'd build himself, with various preamps. The man is a real master of tone, as well as playing. I wonder what setup he was using at the Agora show.

When I started listening to Mahogany Rush in '75 I loved how all his guitar notes fit together perfectly. On the Agora DVD he is still hitting all his notes perfectly on the guitar.
