Tried the same with 5: 0101 (binary) gives 0110 (gray). MSB of binary must be same and XOR must be performed with immediately neighboring element of binary representation. e.g. 0101 -> 0 (MSB), 1 (0 XOR 1), 1 (1 XOR 0), 1 (0 XOR 1) or 0111 (gray).
