Hugh was great. Hope too see more of his villian arc. Movie felt pretentious in an egotistical way. It talked a lot, but, never really said anything.

I enjoyed this film, it knew its limitations and did not go too far down the rabbit hole of religion and belief. So I was happy with all the horror tropes it used, Hugh Grant was excellent, his best performance I have seen from him. Once again a great review, which this film deserved.

The studio was embarrassed by the property. It was a proof of concept film they had half-hearted faith in. Krispy Kreme is proof of this. Imagine Fritos in LOTR or Domino's in Inception. Everything generic and soulless. Zords suits Goldar all designed by committee. The best scene was the canyon jumping scene. Hard pass

The animal storyline is part of the stage play, definitely. And it's of course not only about animals themselves, rather an allegory of discrimination against any marginalized group. It fits into the 1939 Wizard of Oz film version though. Did it never strike you as odd that the Cowardly Lion is seemingly the only talking animal left in all of Oz? And why is he so cowardly (was he maybe abused when he was only a little cub)? 🤷‍♂️ Etc.

I've heard only good things about this film. I can't be really watch sad movies which isn't great but this looks like a lovely film.

It felt pretty corny and unrealistic, not a great anti war movie. So many other things do it better and it feels like this one was rushed out before the 2024 election. Idk if these kind of movies can even be made in our current climate you need nuance and understanding, something of a lost art in our times.

Because it mostly is. Take the last scene for example. The fire fight in the white house. Pause the frame where the young girl is on the floor. They have .308 rounds laying on the floor around her. But that's not really the issue. The issue is that they aren't casings of .308 rounds they are literally bullets of .308. casing and bullet without being fired. Like they just took a hand full out of the box and tossed it on the ground 😂

I had a good, not great, time with this movie. I agree with a lot of your points about Lucius and Pedro Pascal’s character. Totally under used and in a big way underdeveloped. My friend and I had a conversation while we were leaving the theater which basically led us to “What if it wasn’t Denzel who was cast in this movie?” And we agreed that this movie would be very forgettable without him.

Yeah I didn’t vibe with this film at all for the exact reasons you mentioned. Why are we here? What’s this war going that doesn’t seem to be the focus of a movie called Civil War ? Who are the states that are allied together? Why did they choose to be partners? What’s happening in the Midwest and the west coast? How did the president achieve a third term? All of these questions are way more interesting than the story we got. From a technical film making perspective it’s well made. Well shot, sound design should be nominated, solid performances but without a good story what does it matter?

I think that aspect of it bothered a lot of people. Fortunately for me, I found that part of it to be refreshing.

Great video, I appreciate the concise video length. The loop of the footage was a little distracting. Maybe add new york city footage to buffer it out or that kind of thing for future videos. You should have more subscribers for sure, I dont know why youtube has some people with a million subs and some with a hundred and they make the same stuff.
