Acid etched katana
This was a really cheap blade, one I picked up a few years ago for about $180AUD (so around I'd say about $100-120 USD)
a DH blade stated to be manganese steel or mangalloy (small percentage of manganese in the steel), not the best feeling in the hand & hardly any distal taper though still fond of it.
the hamon had completely faded after polishing so I gave it about 4-5, rounds of etching with white vinegar at about 10+min each time & a light polish of mothers mag in between to clean up then once done I put masking tape over the blade up to the bo-hi to polish that up separately and though not as nice/clean, looks close to my jkoo blades with their cosmetic polish etc.
also stained the raysk...

Another quick look (2 of 2) from Shadowdancer. TH shinogi-zukuri 9260 blade. Again, I want to show the excellent saya to tsuka transition and habaki fitment. Slightly heavier than the one I ordered previously ( the dark red saya) but still well shaped/balanced. Same costs as before - $128 USD base price $30 upgrade for hishigami $50 for shipping. So only $208 USD shipped. "Both have by default ...

Another quick look (1 of 2) from Shadowdancer. TH shinogi blade purchased a while ago, I want to show the excellent saya to tsuka transition and habaki fitment. very light blade for a shinogi / one of the best handling swords in my collection. ( this one has been through the worksharp sandpaper scratches & bottle cuts so blade looks scratched as hell lol) Only $128 USD on their site $30 upgrade...

Today, the most valuable sword in the world is the sword of the last emperor of Japan, whose real value is about $50 million, which I don't know if it fell into the hands of the Allies or is still in the Japanese Museum.

Very nice battle wrap. How is the tightness? Did they charge you extra for it?

Yeah I think it was about $30 (USD,) for the ito upgrade + the $30 hishigami upgrade - very tight and definitely worth getting the base hishigami at least imo. 👍

Nice. I think this one is even nicer than the black. Less panel lines in the tsuka, and more character with the red saya. Cool swords, man. Also, I like how they make the habaki flush up to the hamachi, rather than the ugly cut in the front of the habaki that you often see.

Totally agree! this one was the first I got / ordered the 2nd simply because this one was like the nicest feeling katana I've had / lighter than most my bo-hi blades & amazing cutter, Tsuka is soo good. has carved channels and waisted just right (I feel like it's the template design style for those nice and light Z-sey blades) also saya is well fit/slimmer than most LQ forges make and tapers. Was slightly disappointed in the 2nd/black one simply coz it wasn't a clone of this one with different fittings 😅 (tsuka on the black one is wider / more rectangle and habaki wasn't as flush with ledge at the back, Still really like that one after getting used to it but I prefer this first one so much more! / probs my fave sword in the collection). sometimes even from the same maker/model you get two different swords & feel like I won the sword lottery with this one lol

@@joske2838 Right on. I heard they make a little shelf on the interior of the habaki to make it sit right. Never seen that and not sure it's very common. Cool little details. I'd be right happy with this one, too. Most Longquan shinogi are way overweight, so it's nice to see a properly maneuverable option without a bohi.

@@KF1 Definitely, one of my jkoo-sinosword's with a bo-hi is still way heavier than this one! and I've always felt most are overbuilt, I'm curious to know how the bo-hi option for these shadowdancer shinogi blades feel too- would be cool to see what yourself and other great cutters in the YT community could do with this one putting it to the test 🙌 Would have made for a good iaito option too!

Cheers! Yeah it ended being even lighter than I expected & feels as light as my aluminium iaito or near abouts, it sailed through the last of the noodle scraps I had left even with the factory edge though I ended up sharpening it a bit further & polished it 🙌

@@joske2838 Right on. If it's that light, might want to put a similarly light tsuba on for a try. Cool blade profile!
