In my experience from trying to transpose shoegaze/noise rock style melodies onto more classical instrumentation such as piano, I was always reminded of Nine Inch Nails (particularly The Fragile) or Smashing Pumpkins or even 90s electronica such as Underworld and Orbital, just going to show how much bands like My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth had on the development of everything from alternative/indie rock to electronica to modern industrial.
