I was lucky enough to be exposed to these guys and other Dayton bands when I was a teenager. I lived on Alberta in the same house Michelle lived in. Huge influence on me. The whole scene was awesome.

I have a feeling had Tim Taylor lived, Brainiac would have been signed by a major only to be under promoted and dropped.

At Jeff Buckley’s last gig at Barrister’s, a tiny hole in the wall Memphis bar on Monday June 26th, his first words on stage were “Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, he’s fucking dead, the guy from Brainiac is fucking dead. I want this to mean something to every fucking one of you.” He began to play “Terminal Cancer” a song that includes the line “The world has eternal cancer”. “I guess that’s how the guy from Brainiac felt,” he continued as he segued into “Hallelujah” in requiem for Brainiac’s Tim Taylor who had died in a solo car crash. Over the next hour and a half, Jeff joked with the audience, pointing out that there was free red wine at the bar that he had brought in for the audience. “Free,” he said, “that’s spelled f-r-e-e.” He continued with the rest of his set which included “Corpus Christi Carol,” a song he hadn’t performed live in over two years. “Is that how you like your rock heroes - dead?” he demanded.

This is a video from the 90s recorded using 80s technology now being displayed on a website from the 2000s featuring a band wearing 70s clothes and making 2030s music.

I listened to them when I was in college a million years ago, and this still sounds fresh af a million years later

Wtf. I tought this was some mid to late 2000's dance punk/ nu rave band like late of the pier / the rapture/ klaxons. They were trully ahead of the curve right here.

Okay so I may have some clarity(?) for you. I don't know if you know what the Brainiac Live Archive was but it was exactly how it sounds and is now defunct. But through the Wayback Machine on Archive.org, I've been able to go back in time and see what was on there and download shows and stuff. Anyways, on one of the DVDs they used to offer, there was this exact video on it, with just Indian Poker - Part 3 on it. So that seems like all there ever was from the show in terms of recordings.

Very early Brainiac!! And also before Juan decided he liked being on Tim's left. I can't recall ever seeing them with Juan on stage right. Anyone known how long the band had been together when this was filmed? A few months maybe?

Just discovered this band. They're fucking awesome.

They are inspirational to me as a long time musician. There are no valid comparisons. If you think they are some punk/rap/metal hybrid you are wrong. They were way ahead of their time, as intended. I'm not sure I could write that well even if I took a lot of drugs or meditated. Needs more cow bells!
