So rehearsals are now in full flow for Hunchback of Notre Dame with Leeds Gilbert & Sullivan Society . It's such a fun, beautiful and epic Disney show and one I've wanted to do since I was a kid! Of all the amazing songs I get to sing, the one I'm looking forward to the most is Heaven's Light. It's a short one, but a good one! Yeah, it was quality... we have recordings of the entire show. I played Riff and had an awesome time. We just did The Magic Flute, don't think we are doing much musical theatre for a while. But we are doing a new Opera next year.
Thanks, glad you liked it. We are all vocal students at Birmingham Conservatoire. We get acting lessons as part of our course, but we are all training to be classical musicians. So something like West Side Story isn't the norm here. I think it worked well for our voices though.
Thanks for the kind words Dennis. We had an amazing MD called Ben Kennedy and he's a bit of a stickler for tempos! We didn't really have that many rehearsals with the orchestra, but things seemed to come together really well. It was fun doing a musical, but we are back to the Operas this year. Check out the recording of 'Cool'. I can upload some others if you'd be interested in listening. Kristian.
Oh, and one other thing, the tempo is fantastic. Much better than either the movie or the original music. It must have been fun during rehearsal when the material became so familiar that you guys could increase the tempo. I'd love to chat with you guys about how the rehearsal for this number went. Dennis
You guys did an amazing job with what I think is the best complicated-but-lovely five minutes of American musical. Bernstein captured the spirit of multi-modal opera. You guys are great. Three cheers. Dennis
