🤔…..Jim Harrison - highly respected by all of us who lived and trained in St Louis - even when Jim went to KS. Big rivalry between Jim and St. Louis’ Fred Wren (I earned my 1st Degree Black Belt from Mr Wren in ‘72). Loved that “Blood & Guts” era….both Harrison and Wren were incredible fighters. I think Mr Wren would have gone further his own career back in the ‘70’s except for a serious knee injury. Both men were very intimidating- and could back it up with their fighting prowess.
My name is Jim Kreider. Mike I was training with you in Springfield Mo in the early 70s. My walk reminded you of a horse. Good to see you are still out there!
Dennis Gilley and I were once your your students at the 6Points dojo. I read the note taped to the door from Joon Rhee. You also played poker with my dad at our home on Nile Dr --along with Neil Simon, Sid Smith, Jelli (Jellison Motors), the Holliday bros, Hausman's and so on...
Mr yarnell I hope you're doing well this is Dave grishom speaking to you I've been trying to find one of you guys forever age and lifestyle has kicked my ass Mike fry passed away
I miss you so much, Sensei Jim! You were such a father to me, one that I never had. I love your family, - Carol, your wife, and your kids. I'm crying RN and I wish I could still be with you - training by you and learning to be a man by you. I love and miss you, Jim!
Se sensei Yarnall,, One of the best karate instructors in the United States I was fortunate enough to meet him years ago back in the 70s and I believe I’m not sure of the year it was my first time meeting young Chuck Norris anyway what a career this man is at my house or up to him and like you said it is an art and should be forever thank you Professor Larry Hilton practitioner Nippon gets to go
What a great instructor and amazing person Mike Kaylor is. I too was a student of Mike's in the early 70's when he had the dojo at 220 Walnut street and also attended classes when he instructed at the YWCA and the dojo that was on Glenstone. I was awarded a green belt in Branson, Missouri by both Mike and Danial K Pai in 1976. I am sure every one of the thousands of students Mike has instructed over the decades also have some memorable moments to share. Like another student wrote, some of my best years were under Mike Kaylor's instruction and would say it's the best money "Mom & Dad" ever spent. I doubt Mike spends time looking at this old video but if you ever do, I wish you well old friend. John Olsen
Mr.Stavroff is in my Martial Arts Academys Family Tree. I wish my son and I could meet him some day. Its good to know your roots. Thank You Mr.Stavroff for your contributions sir.
@ 6:30 Mr Harrison mentions Mr Lindell. I remember Mr Lindell as well as Mr Harrison from taking judo from them @ Bushidokan on Wornall in KC. Learned some great life lessons there from them
@@Souper309dI was there around 2001. Definitely an honor looking back on it. I only made it to my yellow belt in judo but I remember everything he taught me quite well.
I remember meeting him at the Johnson Drive dojo in Shawnee Mission, Ks back in the mid 70's. I tried to sell memberships for the dojo but I was just a kid and had no skills. I got to see him work out with Mark, Jeff and Steve. It's sad to see him gone, but he did live a full life. RIP Mr. Harrison.
I think it's great that some these legendary fighters and champions from that first generation are still around teaching their art. When that generation is gone, a good chunk of that art will be gone forever.
I had the honor of training under Bob Yarnall for many, many years. Those times changed me greatly for the better and I consider Bob one of my mentors in life. He was also a great friend.
This is a criticism on historical accuracy, NOT misogynistic, yet I’m sure I’ll get called that. 0:32 why is there an older woman in the ranks? Yes yes I know there were women who disguised themselves but very very very rare.
