Restoring Memories
If you ask Randall how he got into the restoration business he’ll tell you, “I needed to buy a car.” The truth is, Randall has been restoring things all his life. He rebuilt a bicycle when he was only 7 years old, and by thirteen he had progressed to motorcycles snowmobiles and cars. “I was always into building stuff,” Randall explains. “I’ve been restoring stuff since I was a kid.” You only have to spend a little time with Randall to see his love for restoration come through.
“I love antiques,” he says.“I love taking things apart and I love putting things back together " and bringing unique things back to life, Pine Tree State Restorations roots grew from his father's encouragement.
5 years old when I disassembled my father's state of the art reel to reel needless to say he was not happy says Randall. rather than getting angry my father said to me " anyone one can take things apart but not everyone can put it back together" I was hooked from that day forward.

Beautiful receiver. It's in good hands. Looking forward to the video.

Wow, I remember the Ray-o-vac 305 lantern flashlight when I was about 4 or 5 years old in 1969-70, now 59. As my Dad had one those Ray-o-vac lantern flashlights! 🙂 Ever brought good memories & yes nice restoration on the lantern!👍👍
Thank You i love the old flashlight they have character, and they are awesome simple to upgrade to led!! PTSR
I had one and I do have a DX-300. I paid $100 for it back in the 80s when it came out. Approximately $350.00 in today's money. It is quite possibly the first NEW radio I ever purchased. It is NOT a great radio. It IS a ok radio at best. It is a very simple super heterodyne design. I love how they look and it brings back great memories. Like the time I was listening to AT&T high seas.. A guy was making a radio call back to the states to his girlfriend. Halfway through the call she told him that she was now dating his best friend. The guy tried to play it off like it was no big deal but you can tell in his voice but he was crushed LOL. I'm glad to see you used deoxit on it as it is the correct thing to use. I cringe when I see people using contact cleaner on potentiometers. It will dry them out and ruined them. OK for band switches though. Rock on dude. DE W9TIT
@@richysradioroom Realistic had some great radios so sad they closed and lost there Radio Roots PTSR
I have one of these in storage. I plugged it in normally it is amplifier hiss. I can’t wait to get into it, and make it work again.
@@FromSarumCity I like bring that radio back to life !! PTSR
Absolutely love mine….no issues since I bought it new. Great video, very informative.
You are welcome always glad to help check out the free giveaway !! PTSR
I had one of these when I was 15 and first discovered SW radio - loved listening to it and sending reception reports to stations for QSL cards and other goodies the stations gave away during the waning years of the Cold War. 45 years later, I've been a ham for over 22 years - what a fun radio to get me into the radio hobby. Great video, thanks!
Thank you for watching PTSR
I have the european version, LW, MW (Am band) 3 short wave bands, it drifts a bit despite a rudimentary heat sink on the transistor, switch it on and play once i a while, would like to have the kit and manual to align it it all after checking the capacitors and resistors are in spec but space and money make that seem a long way off.
Click Link Below or cut and paste this will help you PTSR www.qsl.net/on6mu/dx100.htm
How can anyone say this is a great radio. I have owned well over 100 radios. This is by far the Worst radio I have ever owned! Drifts. One way to open bandwidth. The tuning barrel that indicates frequency has marks every one or 2Mhz only, and even then it can be over 1mhz off. (eg the dial indicates "About 14500" youre on 15205) . Overloads easily. bfo is so touchy.. horrible horrible horrible HOWEVER it was the first radio i owned as a teen. and I lived in the country -high sunspot year. I loved it at the time. :) But never but one now.. you will cry!
@@jcullen8009 love the radio she doesn't drift a bit I suppose there are a few bad apples but not this one very hot reciever and they are super super simple to fix and operate like the look too thanks for commenting PTSR
Couldn't agree more. Got one of these from Tandy, UK as my first 'real' radio, liked the way it looked but always felt like a battle to operate. Got a Lowe HF225 a couple of years later and oh boy, what a difference! 😉
@@elshiftos hard to compare a Lowe to a inexpensive Realistic Lowe is 5 times the money PTSR
I had one of these. I used it to listen around the world . I had a novice ham radio license but no money to buy a ham radio. This satisfied my desire to reach and listen to the world.
Realistic made great Radios back in the day PTSR
I can't find any information on how to completely disassemble the VU LIGHTER. HOW CAN I REPLACE THE PLUNGER SEAL (O RING). Thanks for any tips or instructions.
you cant if its in THE tank PTSR
That’s a beautiful Cuckoo Clock. My mother had one of these German Cuckoo Clock’s back in the 1970’s as well. It also had a little spinning dance routine built into when it hit every hour. Great memories. Tom
@@TomzTrainzandAccessories I love them I have repaired many PTSR
Excellent tutorial on this #445. I had the same problem you were talking about where the nylon string was cutting a groove into the plastic. All I had to do like you said was to install a tiny eyelet. The item number for this eyelet is #259E-18. No drilling is required if you use this Lionel recommended eyelet. It fits perfectly into the hole. My #445 Operating Switch Tower works perfectly again. Tom
@@TomzTrainzandAccessories glad I could help check out the raffle I am giving away all you have to do is make a comment PTSR
cool cuckooooo
Cool
The length of CPVC pipe for the MLA-30 + should be 14.5”. Apparently the length of the wire has been ‘tuned’ shorter.
worked pretty good for me thanks for responding PTSR
Do you have a link for a video to take a part and repair the Scripto vu light. I looked on your RUclips page and don’t see one. I have a couple I need to take apart and repair. Thank
Not the best loop antenna. Frequency response is about as flat as the Rocky Mountains. Only thing in its favor is the price. I finally retired mine and replaced it with LZ1AQ's AAA active magnetic loop amplifier along with a pair of 2 m loops made from 5/8" aluminum fuel line. Super low noise and freq response flat as a pancake from 100 kHz to 30 MHz. Highly recommended.
Can we convert the LNB wired signal coming to the house to wireless? Is there such a device? For other televisions.
I am not sure but i will look into it PTSR

Hi welcome i used a black pipe base and a double threaded nipple, i the heated the nipple with a butane torch and hot threaded it in the PVC PTSR
How cheap to buy?
195-250 Average price PTSR
@@PineTreeStateRestorations Not very cheap. I bought the original when the original came out. Never used it. Learned about the problems late in the game. Bought a tac barrel, $200.00, Spring 8.00, Clamp $68.00. Maybe $5576.00 back in the day. Now in the $1,000.00 range. They don't make this anymore.

I don’t mind some radio static, white noise, for certain frequencies. Relaxing.
yes it can be PTSR
Loops can take on many shapes. Circular, square, diamond, etc are all loops. You were adjusting RF levels, not AF levels. You only get to AF after the detector in the radio itself.
Yes I indeed I agree thank you for commenting PTSR
I am not so sure that blue pot is attenuation. Measure the bias-t voltage going through the coax going to the pre-amp box and turn that pot to see if voltage changes.
We have a huge video coming up on this and shortwave antennas it is going to be interesting, fun, and educational stay tuned and thank you for watching PTSR

Mark my house full of old Radios it's called old radio disease lol PTSR
Pretty sure that's how how thislittke guy works it was so fun to play with PTSR
That’s a great accessory. Great job getting it up and running. The only thing I’m curious is that the light bulb should not be going on and off like that. It was designed to stay on constant while the pump goes up and down. Tom
Nice job on the diamond configuration MLA30 project. I have an extra loop I could try this with. How does it perform with reception? any noticeable difference than the loop?
strangely enough i saw an improvement maybe 1 or 2 DB plus the antenna is not flopping along in the breeze makes it bullet proof thank you for watching PTSR
@@PineTreeStateRestorations I hear ya about the wind, it's always very windy here in Santa Fe during the Spring but I haven't noticed too much interference on the loops. I'm making a "duo bander" type of mast for the loop and scanner antennas right now.

what transponder settings for Satellite 110 and 119 for Dish Network also LNB frequency settings- we have been using a Bird Dog for years but they went out of business and we travel all over the country in our RV and have to re acquire our satellite many different times
transponder 6 - both 110 and 119 usually have a good signal strength on TP6, but 129 typically has a very low value - changing the transponder to say 21 and 129 typically displays a strong signal PTSR
@@PineTreeStateRestorations we get no signal quality
@@marcystarnes5511 you have to be delicate on dish alignment has to be spot on any trees or hills in the way? PTSR

Why would you assume it was used by the south, when the owner was from Maine
Based on its crude design and the makers in the south at the time it just feels like a southern piece but yes it could be from the north PTSR
This is all new to me. I just ordered one of these and was wondering if I can extend the antenna cable with a barrel or with that have a negative effect? Id like to put it outside in the yard, but afraid that will be more than 50ft.
