Adrian's deal in Opposing Force that made him so interesting for the G-Man was that he was able to adapt and survive the harshest of environments. Maybe not just physical-, but also social. Him being in the City 17 Resistance (or maybe even as early as during Opposing Force when he went AWOL) might've given him the opportunity to finally let loose and be his true self... And honestly, I wouldn't mind shipping him with Gordon >_>
