Great video Andy and really useful as I’ve just done a load of red’s photography so this will help me in my edit. I’m a complete novice at the moment on editing in general but tend to use LR so may send you one of my images to have a look at. 😀👍
I LOVE when great artists speak of their very very very first beginning. That´s so eye-opening. Makes me feel connected to Sophie
Absolutely love both the starting image and the edit mate and the techniques are such useful tricks to know 👌🏻
@@adamjuckesphoto thank you so much mate. Means a lot 😊
nifty tricks here!
@@DomBarker cheers dom
Definitely gonna try this out 😊
@@StefanCrysell that’s great. Hope it goes well 😊
Another awesome video pal love learning new techniques 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@mikephelpswildlifephotography thank you mate. Really appreciate it 😊
Really informative video Andy. Absolutely love Mull, did our own trip a few years ago and got lucky with otters and eagles but possibly looking to go back in two years for a special birthday so will look into an organised tour this time. 👍
@@ianwilsonwildlifephotography thanks so much. Yeah the organised trips can be super useful to avoid wasting time if you’re looking for wildlife so highly recommended them. Do the research of course. Check out Apex Adventures with Adam Juckes and Mike Phelps as they will be running the same Mull tour I went on 👌🏼
@@AndyGreenWildlife thanks for your reply Andy and yes will check out the Apex tour come the time. Looking forward to the next Wildx podcast. 😀👍
@ super. Thank me mate
Great video with some really useful insights into your workflow. Enjoyed it 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography cheers Dan. Lots more to come. Glad you enjoyed it mate
Great video Andy, never used the dodge and burn tools before but, I will now!!!! Tnx
Ah that’s great to hear. Thank you
Watching a master at work!
Thank you man. Appreciate it mate 😊😊
oh one thing, how do you do dodge and burn with just lightroom?
Hi mate. It’s slightly different but using a brush mask you can highlight the area you want and then just play with the highlight and shadows sliders. For me it’s not as fine as Photoshop as you have keep changing sliders etc rather than just “painting” with a brush in photoshop
super helpful, thanks very much!
Thank you mate! 🎉
Great video mate, a top day with the reds also!
Cheers mate. yeah brilliant day
Soooo good pal I just love the way you use that dodge and burn to bring out the detail and help the highlights 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@mikephelpswildlifephotography thank you mate. Yeah such a powerful tool
Brilliant tutorial mate. For someone who has done one of your tutorials I can endorse how good they are and the fact that this is now available to a wider audience on RUclips is brilliant. Top work 👌🏻
Thanks so much mate. Really appreciate it, enjoying producing these videos
in my area where do i live, they are alway mocking me. waiting a hour and hour. but when i leave they appear.
@@PetOnRUclips oh that’s very common unfortunately, they always arrive as you leave 🤦♂️😂 sometimes you have to wait 6/7 hours 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Thanks for sharing your tips to photograph kingfishers. Nice YT channel! I will gladly leave a subscription and looking forward for new videos about wildlife 😉
Ah thank you very much, really appreciate it 👌🏼
Cracking video as always mate, really enjoyed !!! Some great tips as well.
Thanks so much mate. Glad you enjoyed it 😊😊😊
This summer I spent a lot of time watching them. Unfortunately, the half dozen perches I have located all have 360 degree views so approach isn't possible, that means a blind set up before the sunrise. I'll be ready next yr.
@@flightographist ah ok, yeah dark morning approach is always best really to try not to disturb 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 sounds like a good setup
@@AndyGreenWildlife Yes, I can approach through an old growth forest and get to the shoreline but they cruise it so any movement and they leave for another unknown perch. At this point, it seems they might be more conducive to my presence in a kayak so I'm going to try camo on the boat as well as a shore blind. The benefit of the kayak is I can see the shoreline area where they may be burrowed.
Super video. I got my first one after a year of figuring out where they perch on my local river. I now know the habits and behaviour of this particular one. It perched for about 5 seconds but felt like 30 mins.
@@daviddecourcy5644 thank you so much. Oh that’s great, yeah seems like such a long time when they perch and you are holding your breath! 😊😊
@@AndyGreenWildlifeit’s like the world stands still. Love the podcast also. 🎉 can’t wait for more videos
@@daviddecourcy5644 thank you so much David. Glad you’re enjoying the pod. Lots more videos to come!!
Great video Andy. Always great when a kingfisher gets close enough to photograph. Do you ever get the chance for diving shots?
Thanks so much Richard, yeah quite a thrill. I haven’t had that chance much no. I have a slightly different location I’m going to try where I know they are quite successful at catching fish so fingers crossed!
Kingfishers are also much more likely to return to a perch if they catch from it, so worth trying a few different areas..
@@Karkawry1970 great advice. I noticed this just this morning and have found another spot that could work. Thank you
Great tips Andy, I have belted Kingfishers here along the creek beside my property and they certainly can be hard to get shots of.
Thanks mate. Ah great, I’d love to photograph a belted kingfisher 👌🏼

@@jameshchetwyndjr9739not sure what you mean but definitely great to take picture of nature 😊
Chap had two years If I have ten minute good. Lot to take pictures of. Get what I can
@@AndyGreenWildlife clear strait foward advice thanks
One last tip....if you happen to find a nest keep away from it and do not share the location !, especially during breeding season. Kingfisher are a protected schedule one species
@@ajc1482 yep for sure. Good advice.
Nice tips. I'm a carp Fisherman and take photos of wildlife between bites. I might introduce a perch to try and capture a kingfisher 👍
Thank you. Definitely do, they will try new perches if one is put out 😊 good luck!

It’s a really good idea to do your pieces to camera out of the wind. Its uncomfortable to listen to, on an otherwise interesting and well put together video
Thanks for the comment. Yep ideally out of the wind would be good for sure where possible. Thanks for stopping by 😊
Great video Andy and really insightful! I've started my wildlife photography and youtube journey this year and it's been an incredible experience. I've been looking at a Isle of Mull visit for next year so this is really food for thought!!! Love the channel and have subscribed.

Nice van mate how much did it cost for them convert it

amazing
Top advice. As regular visitors to Mull & with a good working knowledge on our last trip we decided to try a van based “wildlife tour” as something different. Maybe learn something new ?? Our “guide” took an instant dislike to us once he learned we knew most of the productive spots & had already seen most of what he had to offer. He spoke to us in a condescending manner throughout the trip & towards the end was just downright rude to us. We walked away with a bad taste in our mouth & a considerable amount of money wasted in our opinion. This operator was happy to advertise all the Mull wildlife but as long as you saw it with him. My advice would be if you have a basic skill & knowledge of the area - do it yourself. Choose wisely. Mull Charters however are consistently superb & highly recommended.
@@robrippers8896 hey there, thank you so much for this and that’s very interesting, I’m sorry you had that experience. I have certainly heard people mention a couple of different guides that have been underwhelming, would be very interested to know if they are the same as yours. Of course, if you know an area well and are confident then doing it yourself is sensible but an expert on the island should have something to offer and at the very least shouldn’t be condescending or rude, that’s just basic manners! My no1 thought I would echo from the video, if you can get some first hand reviews/testimonials from people you trust about a guide, you’ll hopefully avoid any disappointment like this. Thanks so much for the comment.
Look forward to seeing you in Estonia next year 😀
@@wildlifedreams2537 Estonia sounds fantastic! What wildlife is best there?
Hi from Uruguay, great photography! I never payed except once for a photo birding tour, mainly because it's amazingly expensive to people of the third world. But let me tell you that for the same price of a tour we went twice to Iceland and saw all we wanted. Yet in Spain a local tour was suggested for us and he was awsome, it all depends for us if we can afford it, and also if my body will endure a whole day of photography. By the way, boat photography of wildlife is one of my prefered ways to see what's going on in the oceans and lakes!
@@DalsPhotography-Daniela yeah if you can do it yourself and be confident to get the photos you want then go for it, if you can get a guide to help then that would be awesome. I agree, photography from a boat was really cool
@@AndyGreenWildlife Thanks Andy for having the grace to reply and be a nice human being :)
I went to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with Rubythroat tours specializing in bird photography. Yes, it was quite expensive, but it was so worth it as we would have struggled to get half the birds we photographed...
Thank you, yes exactly the issue. Without prior experience or knowledge of a specific location it’s really hard to get the best results photographically
looking at the prices , they seem very good ,5 days ,food all inclusive 1500£ with guide and boat trips
@@beldin1301 yep definitely, as well as car hire for the duration and to be honest it’s the knowledge that’s priceless for a successful photo trip too 😊
A fantastic video and great insight to your trip to Mull pal, loved meeting up with you for a day 🙏🏻

Interesting insight - thanks for sharing. I guess you can't go wrong with Mull or Adam. I've followed Adam on Insta and RUclips for some time, so it was great to see your review. Can I suggest one of them fluffy microphone thingy ma jigs for you, as I struggled to hear what you were saying a lot of the time with the wind noise which was a shame, but other than that - fantastic - one new follower .
@@debraoconnorphotography thanks so much, glad you liked it and you’ve been following Adam too 😊 yep one bit of kit I completely forgot was my mic setup! 🤦♂️
The cost of the trip is £1,450 but does not include travel to Scotland and that is for a twin bedded room. I have always thought that UK wildlife tours were probably not staggeringly good value for money for many photographers. I am based on the South coast so the cost of travel to the West of Scotland is eye-watering but I have quite good and relatively cheap access to airports. So for me many flights are pretty cheap and even the flight included tour option is quite good. I have been visiting the West Coast since the 1960's so am familiar with the environment and wildlife. For many foreign trips local knowledge and wildlife information are essential and it may be difficult or even impossible for the independent traveller to succeed which is not true on Mull.
@@jaycee6996 it all about your personal preference and experience I guess. I’m from the South East and didn’t find the travel cost to Mull particularly eye watering but I did go out of my way to talk to others on the trip and share the journey etc. In terms of cost, again that’s all about your own preference. When I take into consideration the accommodation, all food and drink, 2 charter trips, car hire and then the hosts time and imparted knowledge and expertise and what I got out of the trip, I was happy with the cost. If you know the area, have done it before, are aware of the wildlife and how to behave around it etc then yep, do it yourself for less for sure.
You can also spend a lot more on a photo trip like this. In comparison this trip is a bargain.
@@richardfink7666 agree Richard thank you. Have been offered and found lots of trips across the uk that were more and seemed to be offering less.
@@AndyGreenWildlife Just 2 examples: 4 days on Vancouver Island 14.000 euros; 5 days polar bears in Canada approx. 30.000 euros! In addition, there is the journey to Canada.
@@richardfink7666 wow you’d really want to see Polar Bears for that money!
