San Diego Railcam

San Diego Santa Fe Depot opened in 1915 and is the primary passenger rail station in San Diego. There are six tracks through the platforms. Two for the MTS Trolley light rail. The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and the COASTER commuter rail use the other four tracks. Freight trains will pass through the station on track #4. Freight trains generally pass through at night. Usually there are two Northbound freight trains between 7 and 9 PM. Southbound freight trains usually pass after midnight.
The camera is located on the west side of the tracks and is pointing north. The viewing area is tight and provides privacy to the adjacent high rise apartments. We are not broadcasting sound. While you are missing the sounds of the passing trains, the area is in a quiet zone and horns are normally not used at the crossings. We may find a way to add sound in the future. Ash Street is the first crossing you see north of the platforms along with CP Ash (rail control point).

BNSF Office Car Special (OCS) Train in San Diego
The BNSF OCS "Executive Special" had a short visit in San Diego on Wednesday Sept 20, 2023. I was informed the passengers were attending the San Diego Padres game vs. the Colorado Rockies at PETCO Park. Watch the train pass southbound through Santa Fe Depot about 11:12 AM then returned shortly after 4PM and departing again northbound about 4:38PM.

Why does this site keep changing it's URL?
It's a RUclips thing. You can't have a static URL on live feeds. Whenever it goes down, RUclips assigns a new URL on a new broadcast.

No way! I was just about to go to work a few blocks away from this location, would you advise me not to drive there? I live in Rancho Bernardo and one of the streets out of my neighborhood is completely flooded, totally impassable apart from large pick up trucks
@@user-rh2yj1mh4s - It's really bad here right now. There are cars stuck in the street with water up to the windows. This is on Pacific Hwy. I think it is impossible to get to the airport right now. It's not as bad east of the RR tracks

Good question. Trying to solve both issues. I think it's a bandwidth issue that is knocking it off line. RUclips assigns a new URL when I restart the feed. I'm trying to get a permanent link from RUclips.
This webcam was working yesterday.
I gotta say I really love the camera! I recently took a vacation to San Diego and wanted to know when freights would run. And thanks to your channel and info I was able to catch my first BNSF train back in early March. (We don’t have BNSF mainlines up here in Michigan so it was really neat to be able to railfan a different freight company)
What happened to the camera? I like watching what was coming up.
Must have been a technical glitch over night. I restarted the system and it's live again. RUclips assigned a new URL though.

Happens all of the time. These people pay no attention, just because one train passes by doesn't mean there's no more trains coming. The trolley stops are so unsafe because are always walking across tracks. They should make it like the Sprinter stops.
We need a south facing cam as well!!
I know a guy on the SGRT that might help with a South facing cam

To be clear, on the west side where the cam is, that is the Santa Fe waiting area across the street from the Santa Fe Depot?
Yes the rail cam is on the west side across the tracks from the depot. The camera is just above the track 4 platform.
