Checking and adjusting the valves on my Ford model 1210 tractor. Shibaura 3 cylinder diesel engine. The engine was taking longer to start and there was exhaust smoke at normal operating RPM. It smelled like diesel not oil. UPDATE: Have used it a couple times to clear snow. It seems better. Did not get as much of a raw fuel smell in the exhaust. Less smoke.

Harley Panhead Ride Spring 2022 (after quick maintenance)
Great video!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, I'll be doing more videos this spring. Merry Christmas.
Didn't show how to measure for the shims, the .005 to .007.
Thank you, yes I should have shown that detail.
It’s always such a pain in the ass to replace those damn springs, thanks for de video ! It looks like it’s a bit less difficult then those at the front
More complicated than other cars I've owned. Front aways seems worse because usually carrying most of the weight. The front is a strut design, I haven't done a Mercedes so I don't know if there's enough droop to get the strut easily out. Thanks for watching.

Who's year is this?

Very informative video which convinced me to outsource this to an auto shop given the likelihood of damage to the top mount / bearing and the risk of a compressed spring letting go. This is the type of job that could easily get out of hand! Best wishes from Ireland. ☘
Glad it helped you with your decision. At the time I did this video, suppliers only had struts. Now the is "Quick Struts" which are assembled strut/spring/bearing. That eliminates the use of a spring compressor, but you will still need an alignment. If you are not comfortable doing that, it best to have a shop do the work for you. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the detail. I've got the exact truck and need to change a broken coil too. This video gave me the confidence that I can do this task myself instead of paying a garage to do it. Thanks again.
I glad this helped you. I've got two videos on the same work. The first video, I only replace one coil and bought a used spring. Corroision causes them to fail combined with sudden shocks or extreme compression. I learned my lesson, buy them in pairs (to ensure the same spring rate and sag, and if one broke, there's a chance the other is not far behind.
Thanks for this!
Glad to be of help, let me know if you have any questions.
What is the parts number ?
Which parts do you need the part number for? The New Holland online store is great for exploded diagrams and part numbers. www.mycnhstore.com/ca/en/newhollandag/search/?byModel=1&text=1210
Good job, thanks. Maybe some more explanation about tightening the axle nut and hight level, please.
Good point, that would be helpful for others. I'll try to add that next time!
The float needle was stuck. Causing it to continue filling the bowl with gas.
Yes thanks, even with the petcock closed gas would flow from the tank. The float needle and a kick stand that would lay the motorcycle way over didn't help either. The float would not go all the way up. On a center stand the inlet needle worked.
This is awesome. Keep up the great work. I enjoy figuring stuff like this out. Lately I've been checking out a few riders and zero turns that I can get back up and going.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I got a 1210 Ford. If you still check this channel I got some questions?
Sure, put them in the comments and I'll get back to you.
Where can you buy a gasket for valve cover? One of my freeze plugs next to the the valve is gone? Any idea in fixing that? Thanks
@@joscancruz9763 I use the New Holland web store. www.mycnhstore.com/us/en/newhollandag/ It has exploded diagrams and part numbers. I order online and pick up at my local store, but I suspect they have delivery.
Hey I got one of these tractors. If you are still out there I have a few questions for you.
I don't check comments regularly, but I do try to get back to all. What's your question?
Its some shit, Why not show hov to replace it
Not sure what you mean by replace it. What should have been replaced?
let me know if you want to sell, London ontario
Thanks, but it's already sold about a year ago. It was snapped up pretty fast.
Colant leak was always easy to spot because it colored the spark plugs. The heads on those old oddfires had scant material between the valve seats, and wereprone to cracking there. But, they would still run until it finally got too bad & started dumping coolant in the cylinder. Jusy my 2 sense.
I agree with you. I think the white in the combustion chambers is a lean air/fuel. The next video ruclips.net/video/O6bZi4J9nA8/видео.html I did some more testing, I'm pretty sure it's a leaking intake.
dose it have points? check dizzy shaft play ANY will cause issues
Yes it does. It had a "rebuilt distributor" that had a new shaft and cam, mounted in a Buick 455 housing. I bought an original distributor (with worn out cam) and swap the shaft. Bearing seemed could, I couldn't detect any side play.
I have a CV carberater on my 96- harley sporster,,didn"t know it could be used on a pan head engine.By the way great looking bike.
Thank you. There's a few choices. Frankly the original Linkert M74 is hard to find and expensive.
I had a lot of trouble with mine. It would idle nicely when cold, but rough when warmed up. Have a Rochester carb, and found that it's possible to overtighten the carb. They just need snug, and tighter makes it so the carb will deform a bit warmed up and allow exhaust in through the base gasket ........
That's great information. I still haven't swapped my other Rochester, so I'll try that with a new gasket. Do you think the 14 inHg is OK.
Just noticed a clunk over bumps today in my 2016 jetta, got home and looked and sure enough one of the springs was snapped just like this. This video will be very helpful when I go to replace them. Thank You.
If you can find them, get a complete assembly, (coil/strut/bearing) it will save you time. Have a look at my video on alignments at home. ruclips.net/video/66vru7XSdyg/видео.html Also saw on another alignment video, someone used two pieces of sheet metal with grease between placed under the wheel the to allow the wheel to settle when doing alignments.
@@oldbobsgarage8019I ended up getting all the parts (spring, strut, mount, bearing, etc) instead of a quick strut since I saw some bad reviews. About to do the job now.
A lil wad of bubble gum should take care of it, lol
Thanks for watching.
Only idiots own VW’s.
Tell me what you really think🤣. I tend to drive what's the best deal for my needs at the time. I've driven Chevelles, Biscayne, Javelins, Dodges (Monoco, Daytona, Ram), Datsun, lots of GM vehicles, probably owned more than 30 cars. Curious to know what you think is the best?
Awesome video, I felt like I was the one riding the bike. It’s relaxing and I actually zoned out until the end of the video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm going to be doing a few of these this summer. Hope to get on a few nice back roads.
Thanks for doing these videos, I am working on a CJ-3A with a 225, right now it is really hard to accelerate, will work on the points gap/ timing first. I also like Mikes carb shop!
Thanks for subscribing. I'll be doing more videos on the engine early spring. Biggest problem I had was the flattened cam lobes. I'm going to redo the compression check and look for vacuum leaks. I've got reasonable power, but a flat spot off idle and rough idle that develops as it warms.
This sound great
Thanks for watching.
Great work
Thank you! Cheers!
One way to check for vacuum leak an old boy showed me is to spray gas on different spots on the engine from spray bottle, being mindful of fire! I've done it several times and found a cracked head and a vacuum leak on an old hose because idle speeds up.
Hadn't thought of that. Done it many times for hoses, but never for head/intake gasket leak or cracks. Thanks for watching.
I love those old jeepsters with the Buick v6, have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks, you too!
Thanks for the ride, but I'll take the EVO motor vs panhead anyday.
I'd like to hear from everyone else. Which is your favorite engine?
Shovelhead then EVO
@@oldbobsgarage8019everyone besides the twin cam and m8 is fine
Im in the same boat with my '68 odd fire... bogs right off idle. Trying everything. Timing, mixture. Feel like its too rich. Going to order some smaller jets hope that does it. What timing advance setting are you using?
Factory initial, maybe 2 extra degrees (6 - 8 degrees). Air/fuel is greatly affected by PCV flow. I'm going to try some different ones. Also plan to pull the intake. Keep thinking I've got a vacuum leak.
@oldbobsgarage8019 have mine running pretty good right now I have it advanced a bit more than I would like but runs the best there. How about top end noise? After I drive around for about 20 mins the top end is silent. Upon start up and once it comes back to idle for 5 mins sounds like a singer sewing machine. I was told this is normal for these. What's your experience?
How do I buy a bike like this ?
They don't come up very often.
Extra gasoline problary washing the oil inside your cylinders.
Plugs look clean, but I'm going to try factory exhaust and carb settings for a comparison.
it could sound better yet there's not. !!??
Thanks for your comment.
No school like ole school……I’m very envious. Good job man!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I smile when I hear that 🥰
I hope to get more ride videos out this summer.
Honestly, in my experience the sneezing is due to leaky exhaust. But as you have drag pipes, it can only be around your exhaust spigots if that’s the case.
The sneezing was due to a lean condition, likely due to intake spigots. For now, I've increased the jet size which has helped. I'm going to reseal the intake again to see if that helps.

Have you ever used the wrench the VTwin sells for adjusting push rods. It holds the top and bottom nuts at the same time so you can tigh
I've seen the wrench, but for only the number of times I do this a year, it doesn't seem like something I need now. I'm working on purchasing another chassis to put my other panhead motor in. When that happens, I'll pick up a few more tools.
Gotta love that panhead sound
