Magical.... just magical
My maternal grandmother attended a private school for girls, similar to this, in St. Petersburg before 1917. The school had servants with white gloves who took the girls' coats from them in the morning. One day the school's director called the girls together and told them that the situation in the city had become dangerous and therefore they were dismissed until the situation would be safe again. She never saw her school again because that night the Revolution began. She was able to escape with her family to Finland, where she died on her 90th birthday.
You may be interested in knowing that Marshall Mannerheim, which leaded the independence of Finland, also lived in SPB during his time as a Russian Imperial general and that he was fond of the city and Russia in general.
@@carlosmpsenyorcapitacollon6977 Yes I know all about Baron Mannerheim because my parents were born in Finland. He was an officer in the Russian Army for 30 years before returning to Finland after the Revolution. He was a member of the Czar's Chevalier Guards and as such he led the procession into the cathedral in the Kremlin during the coronation of Czar Nicholas II and Czarina Alexandra in 1896. For the rest of his life Baron Mannerheim remembered that coronation as the most splendid ceremony that he had ever seen. During World War I he rose to the rank of Lieutenant General and won the Cross of St. George for his service. After Finland became independent in 1917 Baron Mannerheim kept a portrait of Czar Nicholas II in his home, and his response to disapproving Finnish nationalists was simply: "He was my Emperor" - end of discussion!
God bless your grandma. The Russian revolution was a real tragedy, for the world and Russia, of course... So many goodly lives were lost...
