Two Documentary Experts Talk Film Tropes, Fight Club, Sand Mandalas (Ep. 50)
“You spend all this time and energy and thought on these things that are so ephemeral, right? It’s just like, oh, a film, cool, we loved it, boom. Maybe it’ll change something, maybe it won’t. Maybe you’ll laugh, maybe you’ll cry. Maybe that’s the joy of it, the Buddhist… what’re the things called? The sand paintings? It’s about that.”

So I dance…” “Like it’s your last time.” Meet Jovani and Gilbert, two dancers at the New York City Ballet, founded in 1948 by the legendary choreog...

Love their real powerful ruthlessness💪🏻💪🏻🔥❤️
Good vid
🤮 if you think too deeply about the whole process you should be upset.
Wow so few Boomers take accountability. This is pretty refreshing
Baby boomers keep forgetting they were the first to grow up with television, which wasnt common, mass media. Now in 2024 they ( baby boomers ) get upset were on our phones all the time no different then them
La sociedad occidental se esta llendo al carajo.
This is such a nice conversation.
That’s not the Transatlantic Accent. Katherine Hepburn is the prime example of it.
My favourite documentary Senna aproaches this by not showing any modern day footage. Every single shot is archive footage from the time. This means any modern interviews, where the speakers have the benefit of hindsight, take on a narrator role and provide context and are delivered quite matter of factly. Where as interviews from the time shown on screen are used to push the narative directly and the emotions feel more raw and authentic because they are genuine in the moment reactions.
Codsworth
OK my plan for my next date is to do the Transatlantic accent
So when they give the money out you stay away or sign papers says you don’t want it this is very crazy😅😅😅😅

😂😂😂😂😂 this is an absolute joke You had nothing to do with scrap yard You are a new jack , you are what they call the accidental thing that weirdly ended up at scrap yard . Everyone in NYC knows who built and ran scrap yard for almost 30 years .
I like these 2. This may be the second snippet of their conversation & I actually am intrigued & want to know more.
Lil Peep - Give you the moon
Definitely hard to be both
I can relate broo‼️
Such great minds!
Bullshit
These guys are not doing a transatlantic accent. They're doing something much more like Jimmy Cagney mafioso New York accent.
I absolutely wish we would transition into using this accent nationwide! I shamelessly have been speaking this way since I was a kid, after taking in so many black and white movies and falling in love with the eloquence of their speech. Do it long enough and your internal voice adopts it too. It makes life sound so much more poetic and vibrant than modern American speech.
Now that sounds like my kind of gal
You mean sex drugs and rock n roll?
Is that Dan Toomey from Morning Brew?
« Chateau Petrus » it should only be called « Petrus » actually
I wish that particular accent was still commonplace lol it's so odd but unique
These two are going places!
normal person: shows photo of her and her cat
Actually Australian phonetician William Tilly invented the Mid-Atlantic Accent. Tilly taught at Columbia University from 1918 to around the time of his death in 1935, introduced a version of the Mid-Atlantic accent that, for the first time, was standardized with an extreme and conscious level of phonetic consistency. Linguistic prescriptivists, Tilly and his adherents emphatically promoted their new Mid-Atlantic speech standard, which they called "World English". Prior to Tilly it never existed.
Defs on a date
she's so pretty bro 😭 her haircolor from the photo? I've been wanting to dye my hair that color but I literally can't find it anywhere 😔😭
Dont have to be a monster to get wealthy
Trans-Atlantic was more Katharine Hepburn. This was more old-time Chicago monsters.
