Peters slams hīkoi, Ngarewa-Packer defends unity
In separate interviews on Pacific Mornings, two New Zealand politicians debated issues surrounding the historic hīkoi protesting the ACT Party's Treaty Principles Bill.
On 22 November, NZ First leader Vaovasamanaia Winston Peters told radio host William Terite the organisation of the recent hīkoi was more of a "stunt" than a genuine protest, and expressed embarrassment over a haka performed in Parliament, calling it prearranged and unrepresentative of Māori culture. He emphasised the need to uphold parliamentary rules and warned against rewriting historical narratives to suit modern agendas.
In response, Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer spoke to Pacific Mornings on 25 November...

    Dame Tariana Turia It didn't matter who the government was, that our job was to get alongside of them and do the very best we could for our people whether we like them or not that wasn't what we were here for, We were here to get the best opportunities for our people that we could so we never ever thought about is it labour or is it National even though I know labour ran that line that we were basically supporters of National, the fact of it is we were supportive of who ever was the government at that time other wise we wouldn't of been able to get anything for our people waste of time been here which is what Matua Whatarangi Winiata told us you can't be there and do nothing get nothing.

    Winston Peters secured the first-ever government funding for Te Matatini, a nationwide Māori performing arts festival and competition for kapa haka performers. It came after his 1996 deal with then-Prime Minister Jim Bolger, in which he secured more wins for Māoridom, including an increase in public health resources for Māori health providers, a Māori education commission, a Māori health promotion unit, a Māori economic development unit, and a Māori employment and training unit. The following year, Bolger was rolled by Jenny Shipley, who dissolved the agreement with NZ First. In 2005 John Tamihere said this "There is no case and no space in this country for separatists" “The days when people could stand up and scream “treaty” and believe that they would get special rights have gone.” John Tamihere 2005.

Just like the elitist aboriginals that advocated the voice that the majority of aboriginals did not want, TPM are the elitist Maori advocating doing the same thing when majority of Maori do not support their rubbish cause. Wise post.. TPM have put a dagger in he heart of the European and all other ethnic groups in NZ.. they have made many enemies and have divided our nation.. worst of all they have brought hatred to the doors of our good Maori..they do this deliberately knowing how closely we are all intertwined and our bloods mixed.. they cancel all European blood lines and want to force the nation apart. They won't get their way as evil does not prevail for long and they will be held to account for their greed.. they have done nothing for Maori, but fattened their own pockets using Maori as their victim cards, they live like kings while the people struggle. Their greed has brought this division and disharmony to our nation... where once we could work things out together over time most people now say no more greed and they are pushing back. TPM are the very worst of evil racist misfits who hate their own dna... their hearts full of hate....demanding we have separatism (apartheid).

      💯 thing is that's how they get more power inch by inch. Its a case of the tail wagging the dog and you get the greens and labour on side.boy.Half the people didn't even know why they were at the hikoi. They rely on strong emotions and naivete rather than common sense and critical thinking to dictate people's behavior. But you know this is the kind of strategy that might swing things in their favour. This country is fast heading towards a 2 tiered system because that's how powerful the elite maori have grown over time. That's very sad.

These Elite can then continue to live their kingly lifestyles. TPM have no scruples.. they lie and misinform their people and can look them in the eye and hear the peoples' struggle while all the time they have robbed them and are using them. Time Maori cleaned up their own backyards, turf out the rubbish and demand back settlements hijacked by these Elites - all settlement monies belong to you all not just to these fat cats. • @Reformed1-e1c
      @Reformed1-e1c 7 дней назад

      I disagree. The timing is not the issue. It is how people reacted. The timing was beyond TNRL's control. The new board took affect in 2018 and were given the task to audit on TNRL's finances prior to 2018. They had to provide this report to the IRL and their external partners. But the revelation of funds unaccounted hit a nerve that people like Hopoate started to speak out a false narrative.

    • @Richard-z8z
      @Richard-z8z 7 дней назад

      @Reformed1-e1c Yes Your timing to come in 2018 and made that Accusations against the Original or Last Board Members and as a result replacing them. The FAN got upset and Rightly so Entitled to that because MMT had made a Name for Themselves but most of All their Country Kingdom of TONGA. You brought up the Money issues to Justify your Unprofessional Interference. You try to shift the Limelight from Players and the People the FAN the Country to your pathetic Nu Board n members. Did the Players made a Formal Complaint.No. Did the Coach Complain .No. Why didn't they stay with you then. That's Explain a lot hey. Why IRL Expel you. Means you had no Case nor strong foundation for your Claim. You talked about Money and they should be in your side because they provide Fund for TRL. Is that right. My Question is How many of Old members still with you. Did you REPLACE all of them. How did you know the Financial Situation of the TRL.

    • @Reformed1-e1c
      @Reformed1-e1c 6 дней назад

      @@Richard-z8z -the allegations are factual. The timing is very unfortunate but the whole issue occurred for a long time going back 16 years ago. It only spilled in 2018 and 2019 when the court in Nuku'alofa ruled in favour to remove the previous board because they failed to audit their finances or at least provide a financial report. -MMT was given by the King to the Tongan National Rugby League in 1986 as a gift. TNRL trademark that name and it belongs to them. It does not belong to the people because the King never gave it to the people. If you think that "MMT" belongs to the people or not trademarked, you will have to wonder how TNRL won their civil suit against T13 representatives in the high court in NZ. -I am not part of TNRL I am an observer of current issues. -Kristian Woolfe's contract was up for renewal in 2018 or 2019 but his demands were unrealistic. For example, he negotiated for 20% of market shares made by MMT and 20% of profit made from the games. Considering that TNRL was losing money as a result of the previous board under Semisi Sika, the new board doesnt have the financial means to agree to the terms. Essentially, Woolfe and Hopoate created a false narrative among the players claiming that the new board are liars and eating the money. That is an outrageous claim because Hopoate has zero evidence of this given that the new board came into effect 6 months after the previous board was removed in 2019. --How did I know about the financial situation of TNRL? Look up US$342,000 unaccounted, RNZ and Kaniva had reported this in 2019.

We All know it was a Sensitive issue n in Hindsight We learn that the Matter should not went to Court. Tonga needs a Sports Tribunal made up of People that have no Interest nor Involve in TRL but looking at the facts in more Friendly Environment. No Politicians should Involve in the TRL boards from the Beginning and about time Tonga politicians stay away . Never mix Sports and Politics as we know there was a Character Assassination of Semisi Sika by media Online which I found Unprofessional and outright Nasty in a Country hunger for Democracy. I'm not a PTOA supporter. Whether he was Quilty or not My point is to give him a Chance to Explain the Matter in a Humane Way. The matter re the Coach,you know How close the Players to him . That's Loyalty. TRL should learn from that. The FANS are Also Loyal and Supportive of the Team and Coach. It's a Rare Relationship to Achieve but When it Materialise it's hard to Break. The Army agree with that. You talk about 20%,Do you think 80% for TRL it's better than Nothing. Not a half full. It's Almost a full Cup. Not only that He deserves more. . The dispute was 5 years ago n the the Team still Climbing Higher n Higher. You forgot the Positive Influences the old MMT on the Local TRL clubs. I think it's Too late to Heal any Wounds. Remember it's the Local clubs TRL and Young People are Missing out on Opportunities and the Spirit of Celebrations with the Tonga International Team. Who looses the most here. The Children. The Stars of the Future. We can. all work together to mend Relationships. Try to get the support of Overseas FANS n Locals too. I agree TRL should have it's best players in the International Team. But local coach should learn from Mr Woolf too to take over one-day when opportunity arise. My Suggestion is for TRL to Willingly surrender the Name MMT for the Tonga International RL Team and make it Legal too. Everyone in the Pacific Islands will thank you all for that. MMT us not for Tongans Only. It's a World Wide Phenomenon. Tonga Raise the IRL Uniqueness Attractiveness n Popularity to A Level IRL never reached before. Tell TRL n New Board let this Year's Christmas SPIRIT AND BLESSINGS guide us All n We Hope Next Year 2025 We do it Again. Beat that South Seas Islander Team, Our Cousin Mal lol. Hope n Wish you Well. Without Prejudice. To All Mate Maa Tonga Fans. The Chairman responsibles for MMT names .not use by Our Tonga XIII RL is Mr George Koloamatangi the Chairman n his board members. Its up to them to do an Honourable decision and reverse things back to former situation and Resign. What a Shame. TRl with no PLAYERS in International level. No wonder IRL kicked you out. You Done no Justice for TRL players n local clubs. Hope you understand that. Mr Chairman, you wanted a lawsuit on MMT names n Logo. You got the Nerve of Wessel to fo that. Your case about what , the NMT name. Did you COIN those words. King Tupou IV named TRL team Mate Maa TONGA. I smile when say on Media that you go or wants the Realms involvenent. Kii Pusi koe mei fe. Give back what belongs to the Riyal Family. The King coined MMT and have Imperial Right to copyright that and Claim it. Copyrighted MMT by TRL was base on that Assumption as to Honour His Majesty's FkLaulaunoa to name the Team MMT. Talk about Copyright yeah RIGHT Should learn about COPY CAT First. Mr Chairman. Meow. Go find the Tin Sardines its rattles.

    Without Prejudice. Reading Comments below by aReform1 makes wonder if he is The Chairman himself in Disguise. I was Disappointed when the New Board took Over. I ask WHY Why Why. While MMT were st the TOP of their GAMES and they shows up from NO WHERE to Spoil Everything for WHAT. Some Selfish Greedy Ideas. Mr Chairman Koloamatangi Who put you up to this hey. Do YOU know what ANTI CLIMAX means . If you Don't and I am very Concern about You . This story is like the Famous Melbourne Cup . You know Mr Chairman ,Everyone have a Favourite Horse to bet on . A jockey must know his HORSE to ride. While the Former Board members done a Good and Professional job with MMT you came along n push them over and take the MMT for a ride and what a Disappointment hey. The Horse bucked you off and your washing board members. The Players and Coach bucked you All of their Backs and you end up with a VELCRO SEAT Mr Chairman Koloamatangi. Bye
