Curious if you figured this out. We are having something similar happen on our transit van, with a 3.5 eco-boost. But it doesn’t always start up all the way the first time or two.

It's the 10R80 trans and Ford isn't going to do jack about it...

I'll be honest I've gone in for this issues since I bought my 2018 F-150 and everybody tells me it's normal and then it doesn't drive normal it sounds like a diesel

I purchased a used 2018, 5.0, 4x4, had 62K miles on when I bought it. Mine makes an occasional clunk/clank at the end of the start cycle. Mine does not do it often enough that let's me try to isolate where it's coming from. I also experience, once in a blue moon, kind of a clunk in the rear-end . That only occurs when in reverse and I let off the brakes. Almost seems like a brake hanging up. Not taking it to dealer because I don't want to pay for them to find nothing.

hello I have a ford f150 lariat 2018 80000kls with the same driveshaft problem I went to Ford they removed the driveshaft and lubricated it with PTFE grease and the noise disappeared thank you

My 2018 does the same & they said the same.

I have a 2019 f150 XLT with 5.0. It does the same thing, clunk when starting. Also clunks when putting in reverse and giving it gas. Dealer says normal. Ford is making expensive junk ass trucks ! I had a 2002 f150 with 5.4 2V. I put 305,000 miles on that truck with all original drive train !! Newer trucks are junk

When it says extended range 36gal fuel tank on the window sticker. It means it already comes with the truck? Do you have to do anything to activate it or???

I have a bunch of weird noises in my 2019 F150 that my 2017 didn't have.. the bang on startup on mine happens hot or cold.. doesn't matter.. to me it honestly sounds like there's a bad tooth on the flywheel and the starter is banging the next tooth.. but i can see how it would be driveshaft related, there's a carrier bearing in the middle, my bet is there's slop in the slip yolk.. wonder if this happens if you go neutral, set the parking brake, then go park.. does it still knock? gonna have to test that.. i also have the annoying transmission shift feeling and have the spark knock from the transmission trying to optimize fuel over performance.. i do like the 10 speed, but it's a little finicky..

Is that urethane finish or matte black?

My 2019 f150 5.0L is not a remote start but it does the same thing when engine is warmed up but does not do it when engine is cold. I can feel the jerk when i turn the key from inside the truck.

91 is over 6.00 a gallon out here. Thats 216+ to fill it up with premium! Lucky my 5.0 can do flex fuel and E85 100 octane is only 3.35 a gallon

I have the same problem Ford just told me that there is nothing they can do Any fixes for you ?

My truck does it also without the remote start when I insert key to start it clunk like that noise

I’ve done some diagnostic testing. Started my truck in neutral. No noise. Not sure why the drive shaft “loads” while in park.

Your range isn’t very much my f150 is a 2015 eco boost and when I fill up my 36 gallon I have 705 miles of range if you put it in engineering test mode you can up your range to more so it lasts you longer as well

And does the top get pretty dirty?

Have a 2019 lariat with 8 cyl coyote. Have clunk on startup after driving and allowing truck to sit 45-60 minutes. Dealer has replaced flex plate, high pressure pump and starter twice. None of this has fixed clunk. Still looking for solution.

I started using 91 octane in my 2019 5.0 and can really tell the difference in performance. And the ticking while idling has gone away. It idles better, it runs better. To me, that’s worth the .25 a gallon extra that I pay for 91 octane. I put 93 octane in it whenever I’m in the next town at the Costco because it’s usually.10 to.15 a gallon cheaper than the 91 at the Murphy oil near me. Can’t really tell any difference in gas mileage. I have the extended fuel tank and I top it off every weekend so it’s not such a big hit on the wallet.

In England this would cost the equivalent $322

19 f150 limited. Mine does the same EXACT thing. Only when it’s been driven and it doesn’t always do it. Just sometimes. I’m wondering if it has anything to with the new “cam phasers” recall they just dropped. Anybody have info on this as of this date? 10/25/21. Thanks guys

Did the tailgate seal come with the cover?

I have the same truck and mine leaks badly from both front corners and along both bed rails. Did you put an extra seal on top of the bed in the front?

I have a 2020 Superduty. The floor pan where it meets the rear stake pockets has a small gap in the corner. It looks like a dab of silicone would take care of it.

My 2021 makes same popping noise when turning left up an incline coming from rear diff. It's in the shop now 3rd visit trying to locate noise*******update!! FIXED they changed out new U-bolts and popping went away.

How long did this full tank last you? I know usually people fill up once a week or so but I imagine this full 36 gallon tank lasted at least 2 weeks?

I just decided to search for this issue on Google, and found this RUclips video and yes, my 2019 F150 STX does that same thing and it was beginning to worry me. I do not have remote start, but when sitting in the truck, usually after it has been running, I start it and as soon as the engine starts it's about as if someone is taking a rubber mallet and hitting the back end of the truck. Everyone that has been in the truck with me when it happens asks, "wow, what is that?" Thank you for posting this information and thanks to all those that are commenting and sharing!

I live in Ontario and got a 2017 fx4 super and when I’m at the stop sign to turn left I heard a clunking noise that day drove couple of hundred km I heard it again this was like thumping noise hope someone same problem too✌️

Anyone who says “this is normal” has bought into Fords BS. Normal and right are 2 different things and real techs know the difference. The rear end clunking is a rear diff problem they don’t want to address anymore than they want to address the transmission problems with these trucks. It’s a blatant coverup by Ford. Get your hands on internal emails like they did on Fauchi and you’ll find the lies.

Mine was doing the same. Sometimes it would make the clunk when accelerating under load, such as towing. 1. Check your slip joint on your driveshaft (that's where mine was). It was dry, greased it. 2. Also check your u-joints. Sometimes when a engine starts it can vibrate the driveshaft and cause the joints to "release" if they are in a slight bind. 3. Check your leaf spring bushings. They will make a very simular sound, but "usually" only while moving. Mike

I have 2018 F150, 307 V8 Coyote/ 10 Speed Auto 4X4. Purchased new, March, 2018. Sticker inside driver door, Mfr. date November-2017. Had recall notice a month later, about some transmission clip thingie,, took it to dealer, checked out, no problem. No further recalls 3 years later. Truck is solid, does everything, no problem including mountain driving. But, ever since I had it, about 50% of start-ups on cold, I hear a 'WHAP' sound when I turn the key. Do not have remote start. Not even worried about it, sounds like something to do with fuel/exhaust system, No other problems, but, weird. Almost 50K. No fails.

I just got a 2017 F150 SuperCrew. I’ve wanted a nice truck for some time and was finally able to afford one. It’s a Great truck only has 35k miles and had Fords Maintenance schedule followed to the T at the dealership. I’ve already put a raptor grill and some meaty off road flat black bumpers wheels and 33s on it. The truck is magnetic grey. Everything is blacked out except the emblems. I can’t wait to do this to finish off the look. Sorry for the long comment but this is my first really nice truck. Maybe a midlife crisis but all my mods are still cheaper than a corvette and less likely to get wrapped around a tree

My husbands truck does this when hes stopping turning and sometimes taking off he replaced the driveshaft and its still doing it. He doesnt have a self start it only does it while driving.

I have a few concerns / questions. I was initially interested in the Bakflip mx4 but discovered it scratches and dents easily not to mention it leaks water in. How does this one do with scratches and dents on the exterior surface?
