I played this when I was in middle school, at Drayton Hall Middle School, for which the piece is named. We practiced off of handwritten sheet music because Dr McBeth hadn't finished it completely. He came in and worked with us on this until we had it to perfection (which drove many of us to near insanity). I'm pretty sure I could find this sheet music still in my trumpet case. Thanks for posting. I've never heard it from the audience point of view before.
This was such a beautiful performance and macintosh315 if you are in high school you would have to ask your band teacher for a copy or im pretty sure J.W. Pepper would have it, though im not 100% sure definitely ask a band teacher though!
Hi AManda Yes he has written quite a catalogue but as far as clarinet music is concerned there is a wonderful Clarinet Quartet - and a Sonata for Clarinet and piano - a bigger work than the Sonatina. There is a superb wind quintet too - I have played it often - I am an oboist. I would be delighted to help if you would like to play them.. If you would like to contact me about any of these works you can e-mail me on jw@blaizat.net Jane Walker
On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest Technique: 4 Tone: 3 (Watch the upper register) Dynamics: 3 Intonation: 2 Rhythm: 5 Stage Presence: 5 Overall, not bad at all.
My father wrote this piece - what a lovely surprise to find it here. Thank you so much for giving it an airing and then posting it .. and Bravo for your performance. !! Jane Walker
I agree with lucavi. There should be no rallentando @:33. Also your bottom lip should be rolled over the bottom teeth...it appears as though it is rolled out...but this is over a year ago..so hopefully improvements have been made!
One of my all-time pieces for handbells!! Thanks for this!!
I'm learning this and have enjoyed listening countless times. Thanks.
My college year exam piece.
Amazing
Superbly played. Live that hymn. Where I can get that sheet of music to play it with my clarinet.
I played this on clarinet in Allstate in the 90s. So happy to have finally found someone playing it! My fingers still remember.
This is the second part of the sonata.
OH. MY. GRACIOUS. THIS IS SO IMPRESSIVE!! 🤩🤯😍
So beautiful!!!
Lovely :)
This is one of my favourite pieces of music which I enjoy playing. You have done such an excellent performance of it. Most beautiful and moving.
Pretty awesome.
Thank you, Don Allured was by brother-in-Law. My sister is Melissa Allured..... We played this piece many times <3
Great piece, but sounds like you've got a rogue contra in there!
Wow! Solo handbells and piano accompaniment--not an easy thing to accomplish. Well-done Carol and Jane!
Does anyone know who wrote this and when? Trying to look it up and having trouble.
This version in arranged by Anna Laura Page published by Alfred copyright 2008
Beautiful

Hey that's cool! I played this in middle school too in South Carolina.
I played it shortly after it was written!
... accompanied (very patiently and sensitively) by a nameless pianist. I assume you knew his name and perhaps even rehearsed with him?

It sounds awkward in some places technically and tempo wise but overall, very musical and you surely made this piece your own. I enjoyed listening.
Beautiful....reminds me of my favorite clarinet-group OK-Dreamband. CD "Clarinet-Dreams" is available for download (iTunes, amazon).
very nice, enjoyed listening to your performance :-).
Very good just make the dynamics more obvious :)
Beautiful! <3 This is May Torralba.

I just want to add that his dates are not 1906 - 2005 but 1929 - 2002 .. just for the record.
