Hank's Belts - Best Belts?
The Old World Harness Leather belt (1.5") from Hank's Belts is hands down the best belt I've ever owned.
I dress it up with slacks and can also dress it down with jeans and shorts.

Why I can't use my Kaweco Brass Sport
Просмотров 15 тыс.Год назад
When looking for a good EDC fountain pen, The Kaweco Brass Sport is going to be at the top of a lot of people's lists. If you're like me, though, your excitement might get dashed pretty quickly once you start writing with it. If you think you'll have a similar issue to mine, consider other models of the Kaweco Sport - they're terrific! #kaweco #pens #fountainpen #edc
Ratta Supernote: HOM v HOM2
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
A very quick rundown of the differences between the original Ratta Heart of Metal pen and the new Heart of Metal 2 for the Ratta Supernote e-ink tablet. Have questions? Leave a comment! The HOM2 shown in the video is the "Samurai" variant. #supernote #supernoteHOM
Sad, pen really cool
Eh it works well for most people. Sometimes the cool thing just isn’t for everyone =)
not for you? Oh well, I guess you could just send it to me to take you off the burden
It is still just sitting in my desk…. 🤔
Thanks for your review. I ordered 2 Old World Harness belts - one in black and the other in refined tan so I have the same belt for all outfits. Your review sealed the deal.
Awesome! Glad the review was helpful. Enjoy the belts, they’re phenomenal!
I was "afraid" of the brasssmell, so I got the Kaweco AL Sport Gold Edition ... to have kind of the same colour, without the smell.... and I dont have problem with the grip. Just an idea.
Thanks! I’ll take a look.
I got my first of their belts back in 2016. It had holes all the way down the belt. I don’t see that one listed still. I work outside and it’s lasted for the last 8 years. I bought a Montana bison as a nicer going out belt. Excellent belts.
That’s great to hear! I keep wanting to buy another one, but I just can’t find a reason. I wear this with jeans, shorts, and dress pants and I don’t wear suits anymore so no need for anything fancier.
@@ThingThoughts yeah these things are built exceptionally well.
what color is this? Rich Brown or Refined Tan? Looking at it on their website and your color looks different than whats currently offered.
This is the refined tan. I think lighting plays a big role in how it looks. Mine is close to the first image on their website for the old world harness belt in refined tan.
@@ThingThoughts Thanks!
It only rattles when you are putting it on or taking it off. Doesn't bother me on mine I have two. Good video
100% true. it actually doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers my wife while I’m getting dressed before she’s woken up.
is the edges burnished
Im not an expert, but the belts do seem to be burnished. www.hanksbelts.com/blogs/hanks-belts-journal/98802630-hand-burnished-leather-what-is-it
Are all Hanks belt stiff ? Do they have any option with soft leather ?
I’m not sure! The one I got is one of the thickest (if not the thickest) belt they sell. So would naturally be stiffer than the others. Regardless I say give the stiffer belts a try, I was pleasantly surprised and haven’t worn my floppy belts since.
That branding is terrible. So much lettering.
Eh now that you mention it I can see that, but doesn’t bother me too much.
How long does the pen last without drying out when left unused? For EDC, i may need to write once in quarter or so... everything else is typed nowadays
In my experience it would dry out within three months.
Don't be a buying victim in all this. You're supposed to tell your doctor about your troubles, not the public. Manufacturers work to a 10 year time frame. You're supposed to wear in the pen. You may have to burnish the threads. So you rub a hard polished metal over the soft metal and push down or break off the crisp edges of a freshly cut thread.
Yup, other folks have made similar suggestions. Thanks!
Sounds like you like it stiff 😅
And long! Gotta work on that waistline a bit.
Beautiful belt.
Indeed!
Is the rattle bad enough to make you wanna buy a separate buckle without the roller?
Yes! I just haven’t spent the time to look for one. I’ve done a couple five minute google searches, but never seen anything that I like/trust.
Also I’ll say I have other belts with a roller on the buckle that aren’t nearly as loud. It’s just this one is sooooo loud.
Nice review. I've got the Montana Bison belt and my feelings are pretty much identical to yours. I've also had the issue where the Chicago screw catches on the end of the belt, a minor annoyance. And you're absolutely right about the belt making it easier to get your pants on. Unexpected benefit!
Thanks! Love the belt and wear it every day. The only downside is that I haven’t found a reason to get another one 😂
You can look at the belt buckle rattle two ways. 1) it wakes the wife up when you put your pants on or 2) it wakes her up when you take them off. Belt looks great
😂 touché!
You should get outside and use your hands for something and toughen them up a bit buddy
Thanks I’ll do that.
This comment made me laugh. I bought a plastic one as a test (b4 I spurged). The treads made me hate it... ended up chopping a Perkeo and recasting the end, which I love (it's almost indistinguishable from a Sport, afg). I had to make a solid brass EDC on my lathe. Apart from the nib section, where my fingers go, there's none of the beloved patina that I was waiting for... I realised, it's my rough ol' hands! Keeps it nearly as shiney as if I were Brassoing it constantly.
you have weak girlish hands. must be rough.
Sounds like you got soft hands, brother
I may!
I like the threads. Adds control.
Yea I can definitely see that if they aren’t irritating for your skin. How long have you had it?
I have both the Brass Sport and the Bronze Sport. My Brass has smooth screw threads but the Bronze one was sharp AF there... I just wrapped the thread area in a fine grit (800) sandpaper, gave it a few turns and now it's just as smooth as the Brass one. Good luck!
Thanks! Another person suggested this too. I haven’t had a chance to give it a try but will need to get it onto my todo list. Luckily the pen is still safe in my desk drawer. 😀
Scratching with sand paper isn't ideal. You're supposed to dull the thread with burnishing tools. If you don't have any of them then you can use a round shaft on a screw driver. Rub it up and down and the hard round polished metal will push down any sharp edges on the soft brass threads.
That pen looks like a .50 BMG ammo!
Hahaha right? It is SOLID.
Thanks for making this video. I feel it’s important for people to know if something is right for them, not just what the majority things is best. Kind of reminds me of the debate with the LAMY Safari grip sections, love ‘em or hate ‘em. As a side note, I do have a grip close to the nib so I decided to pull the trigger myself.
Awesome! it's a really great pen, just doesn't work for me the way I hold it. Let me know how you like it!
Wrong. All designs are designed for a decade of use. At some point in the 10 years, the item will have worn in. You just have to work out when that's supposed to happen.
Interesting. I would have thought that it would not be much different than a knurled metal grip.
🤷♂️ I think knurled grips have wider “peaks” with softer edges. So more surface area in contact with your skin.
Thanks for the wonderful review!! I don't think the threads will bother me, but it's GREAT to see someone point out features/benefits and pros/cons....based on their real and honest opinion from actual use. Pay no attention to criticism of holding....fantastic review and write how you want to write!
Thanks, Danny! What’s your favorite pen right now that bangs around in your bag?
Thank you for pointing this out. Why only 2 videos on your channel? Hope you start posting again.
Thanks! I have twin 3yo boys, so tough to keep creating regular content. I have a few more videos I want to record soon, so definitely keep an eye out!
The threads bothering you struck me as odd so I checked with my fountain pen group. Seventeen of us own a brass sport. None of us have problems with the threads. Some intentional hold the pen on the threads because they think it gives them better control. I'm one of them. The surprising thing to me was that of the seventeen Brass Sport owners, ten are women. Anyway, I use fountain pens more than most. About eight hours per day on average, five hours each morning, and three each evening. I frequently use the Brass Sport for the morning five hour session, and the threads rest on the side on my middle finger. Never have they bothered me. This is saying something because I have some very, very, very expensive pens. My take everywhere, never without pens were the Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age, the Scribo Feel, and the Pilot Custom 823. I rotate two or three or four other pens depending on where I'm going and how long I'll be there, including a Namiki Chinkin and a Namiki Maki-e. But now the 823 is out of my daily carry pens, replaced by the Kaweco Brass Sport. It's odd how often an dhow long I do use the Brass Sport, considering how many other pens I have. In addition to a pretty fair number of expensive pens with gold nibs, I have around fifty pens with steel nibs. These are Most TWSBI, but also Conkling, Pilot, Benu, and a couple of other brands. I never, ever use the Brass Sport fewer than ten hours per week, so it really does get more than it's fair share of use. I find this pen is too heavy at the back to choke down on. The farther back I hold it, the better it writes, and the longer I enjoy using it, so I grip it right on the threads. I don't find them at all sharp, and even after a five hour session, my middle finger is fine. I don't really "fiddle" with my pen, but I do intentionally rub my finger back and forth across the threads when I'm thinking about what I want to write next. I don't know why the threads bother you so much. How tight or loose you grip the pen? Sensitive skin? But you are the first Brass Sport owned I've known who couldn't use the pen because of the threads. The vast majority I've talked to don't even notice them, and as I said, some intentionally hold the pen by the threads for more control.
I own the Burgundy plastic model with gold nib and clip and I barely feel the threads, They are not sharp or extend much at all. the grip is great for me. There is a reason, this is the most popular everyday pen. or what they now call edc. I recommend the Burgundy, as it's also the most beautiful, has the performance and quality that all the most expensive models have and it only costs 25 euros, which is a steal.
Yup! I have the black version and agree. I don’t have any issue with that one at all. But I feel less comfortable throwing that in my bag than I did the brass.
Well, you must have gotten a pen with a few problems. Try another example, or learn to hold the pen in the correct way. As far as I am concerned, it is USER ERROR on your part that makes the Kaweco Brass Sport unusable for you.
Oh wow! I had no idea I don’t hold a pen correctly. Please send over a picture of the correct way to hold it. Would be super helpful.
@@ThingThoughts Truth ,is, that your the only one, I know, that don't like or use this pen. Try the plastic models, along with the aluminum, are the best options in my opinion. They don't have that thread issue you mention, neither the poor balance, those super heavy models have and they are cheap as chips, without losing on performance or quality at all.
There is no set “correct” way to hold a pen. There may be methods that are traditionally more acceptable, but as long as your grip is functional, allows for good writing, and doesn’t cause any issues in the hand or wrist, I don’t see why it could be considered incorrect. I feel like this video is more of an opinion, and a heads up to other people who have similar grips not to buy an unsuitable pen for them, not anything against the pen itself.
@Wolverine3660 you need to chill a bit, he literally said in the video "IF you hold the pen like this you're gonna have a problem". this is a helpful user's experience, if you don't like it, or if you feel it doesn't apply to you, just don't say anything. fountain pen people need to stop being jerks sometimes
You can smooth the thread tips a tiny little bit with sanding paper in a carefull way or give it to a machinist. The inner and outer thread is holding on their flanks so it's no problem.
Love this idea! Will give it a try. Thanks! You think a cape cod cloth would be enough? Or real metal sand paper?
I hope he tries this or sells it or gives it to someone, because it’s an expensive pen to just let sit in a drawer.
Hey whats that rectangular wooden tray in the background of your thumbnail pic? Can you link it?
Yup! it's a charging dock for my apple gadgets. I got it from a super responsive seller on etsy and he worked with me to customize it a bit. Definitely recommend if you like the aesthetics. www.etsy.com/listing/1038009028/wireless-docking-station-organizer
@@ThingThoughts thanks so much! I just bought something similar on etsy but would love to customize the size a bit . Appreciate your response !
@@dxevin3612 no worries! Sorry I was a bit late.
Thanks man. How do you like your SuperNote
I love it. I want to do a video on it, but I have a lot to say so it’s hard to find the time. I’ve had it almost a year and I still use it every day. I bought it specifically for taking notes at work, but over the course of the year I’ve started using it for a lot more (keeping track of banjo/guitar practice and TAB, filling out/signing paperwork and school applications for the kids, etc etc). It’s the best “gadget” I’ve bought in years - no contest.
Is this the HOM2 samurai alloy pen?
Yup, the HOM2 in the video is the samurai.
Are you thinking of getting one?
@@ThingThoughts I plan on getting one but the website is sold out-bummer!
@@waynehorne2734 Hopefully they'll be back in stock soon. They've been pretty good about that historically.
@@ThingThoughts I hope so! Fingers crossed!
