Surprising a Friend with a new Guitar
In this video I decided to do something very different by surprising Dan (a young colleague I have been recently working with), with a T-style shaped guitar I hand built during Lockdown.
In this video I talk about why I built this guitar and document the journey, and turn up at his work place unexpected.
Hope you enjoy the video and it was great fun recording something a little different to normal, and making a little difference to his day.

Just pop the cover off the humbucker, see what happens. Jet has all the production and qc kinks worked out. They first made Flight Ukuleles, Slovenian builder. Their Chinese assembly line (or maybe they've got a full factory, dont know) is managed in person by Jet personnel. They're confident enough to drop what they're calling their Elites this year, high 3 digit price tags. All along side their offerings to date.
JET Guitars are worth exactly as much as per what their price tags say. This is my conclusion with these ultra-budget guitars. Surely, if someone would ask me to choose between a 350 euros Jet and a 350 euros Epiphone, I would choose the Jet. Nice video - superb playing.
Built the guy a guitar and drove 3hrs to give it to him for nout! Good on ya mate! 😀👍
@@stevecassidyguitar 😉
This is so cool! I can think of a ton of uses for this in theatre orchestration, especially with a small pit ensemble. (Funnily enough I was thinking all the way through how useful a volume or sustain pedal set up would be with it, and then it has that functionality built in!) Great demo, thanks Al!
That's awesome Al! I think I've seen a video of this guy on Instagram, he's really good at plucking those strings!
Yeah I’m sure you have mate. 😜
Nice one Al 🤘🤘.
Lovely job.
Yes Al 🤘 Nice one dude
@@SamBoxell Cheers pal 👍🏻
I have a js 400. I found the pickups are wobbly and don't sit flat. Also make sure your nails a short, the fretboard on mine digs up very easily. Saying that, I still like the guitar, good value. In on the fence about another, fancy a jt 600. Maybe go for the sire t7 instead. Any suggestions for a t style around 500 quid anyone? 👍
Well the prices keep going up on them almost weekly.bad business
Not really, Tokai's used to be cheap as chips too. They have no issue moving stock based on reputation these days. Jet are going the same way. Good for those who buy in early in terms of reselling.
I got mine (in transparent black) seven months ago, and it's been my only guitar since then. So I play it every day. Absolutely NO complaints so far. 1.Feels comfortable, 2.Looks stunning, 3.Sounds ... like an electric guitar 😊 - that ticks all the boxes for a good guitar, in my book. Not "good for the money" good, just very GOOD 👍
Nice one Al! Great stuff 👍🎸👍
Looks nice, sounds nice. Even top end guitars need a few tweaks after purchase sometimes. Great for the money. Nice demo👍
Cheers Iain 👍🏻🙏🏻🎸
Great stuff mate! Love this colour too 😎👌 Very tempted! 🙈 How is the weight of this one? I've had 2 - one was 9lbs, and the other is 7lbs
Cheers Steve, yeah it’s a cool colour. This one is coming in at 7lbs 8oz so not too bad. My MIJ Strat definitely feels heavier than this. 🎸🙏🏻👍🏻
@@GearSafari Nice on mate - that's a fine weight 😎👌
Man you can really play!
Cheers Dave, we need to chat soon. 👍🏻
Having built a few cigar box guitars, I've been thinking about building a kit guitar, either a Tele or an SG. But have seen a few reviews of budget guitars recently and how impressed the reviewers are with quality of some of them, I'm beginning to think it's not worth building a kit. I might as well spend a little bit more and buy ready made Tele or SG, spend a bit of time on set up and upgrade the hardware.
Yeah its definitely worth looking at these, and look at upgrading the pickups etc. the range starts at about £170 upwards. Bargain for the specs, and far better quality than some of the kit builds out there.
Great video! Going to have to try one! What were you running the guitar through to get those sounds?
Cheers Clay, Neural DSP for this. 👍🏻
@@GearSafari Oo ok. I need to explore this!!
mono, really?
Great job Al! Nice little unit, good demonstration 😊
Tiptop yet again. Nice clear and informative 👍
Cheers Graeme
Well done! Video looks great and the presentation was excellent. Love the pedal, very useful.
Cheers Dave 👍🏻🙏🏻
Great job once again mate 😎👌
Much appreciated mate
Great video. Nice and clear instructions. Easy to follow.
Cheers Iain
Do you see any benefits using a mic and saxophone ?
Yeah why not, could sound really cool.
Nice one Al
Great vid Al
i had it and loved it but couldn’t get past the price. decided to go in and returned it and got the mercury x instead i think one thing i found myself not loving with this pedal was at some really wet settings it started to feel like it thinned out my sound. felt like i had too much going on and guitar was in a separate mix
I use one myself and you can use it like a normal reverb :) it has no problem with getting a basic room reverb :) it’s the best tiny reverb around
Great stuff mate! 😃👍 Very cool pedal 😎👌
Sounds great, Al! Top work. 👏🏻
I subbed and liked because that’s some awesome guitar playing 🫶🏻 All the best from Belgium 🇧🇪👍🏻☀️
Thats very kind thank you 🙏🏻 🎸
