“What If We Prioritized Rest?” Rev. Karen Fraser Gitlitz, Oct 6, 2024
When I think about prioritizing rest, my head fills with voices parents, mentors, even past employers - and I notice a strong reaction in my body. To help us understand what is happening and why rest is so significant, we will lean into the writings of black authors and activists such as Tricia Hersey, who have identified the theological necessity of rest for individuals and communities.
This service is part of the continuation of the Meaning Making Project from Saskatoon. This year's overall theme is Roots of Resilience - October will focus on Intentional Rest. Please read further down for more information on the Meaning Making Project and associated activities.

Katie here. Which sources have had a part in shaping my approach to justice? I think the idea that we are all interconnected has influenced my idea of justice. If we are all one then that gives us reason to care for earth, animals, and each other. All for one and one for all. To be apathetic to the plights of others is to be apathetic to your own needs. That’s why I think the last source mentioned on the list has had an influence on me.

Hi. It’s Katie. Who’s words or deeds have inspired my understanding of justice? Harvey Milk once said, “Every gay person must come out. As difficult as it is, you must tell your immediate family. You must tell your relatives. You must tell your friends if indeed they are your friends. You must tell the people you work with. You must tell the people in the stores you shop in. Once they realize that we are indeed their children, that we are indeed everywhere, every myth, every lie, every innuendo will be destroyed once and all. And once you do, you will feel so much better.” In addition, in the book of Esther, Esther needs to come out as Jewish in order to help save her people. I think the first ingredient of justice is boldly being yourself whether one is queer, a religious minority, or any minority. As Yoda says, “Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” Where does fear come from? It often comes from ignorance of those who are perceived as other. To be just, one must be themselves to dispel any misperceptions society has of those who are like you. While that may place a lot of responsibility on minorities; I’m just saying that is the first ingredient to justice. There are many.

Dangerous Legislation: Bill C-15 or UNDRIP Document ( United Nations Declaration on the Rights of INDIGENOUS peoples ACT INDIGENOUS is being redefined, it is not Synonymous with Aboriginal any more... According with the Government of Canada and it’s implementation of BILL C-15 , INDIGENOUS includes : Elders, Youth, Children, Person’s with Disabilities and Gender-Diverse and Two Spirited Persons and Industry. DO you see the word “Aboriginal” here or in the UNDRIP Document? NO ! When Bill C-15 is passed it will make the First Nations Communities of Canada, Legally invalid, Racist, and Socially Unjust. This Legislation is Not an attempt to make reconciliation for Native rights or lands. See next paragraph. This Bill, is also changing our Human Rights that has been framed on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( a document that is NOT Legally Binding ) and the Canadian Charter of Human Rights. In the UNDRIP document or Bill C -15 that will be entrenched into all Canadian Law (hence making it Legally Binding) , It reads in the ANNEX of the document paragraph 4 : Affirming Further, that ( All Doctrines ) (Policies) and (Practises) based on or advocating Superiority of Peoples or Individuals on the basis of NATIONAL ORIGIN, RACIAL, RELIGEOUS, ETHNIC, or CULTERAL differences.. ARE (Racist, Scientifically False, Legally Invalid, Morally Condemnable, and Socially Unjust.) This Bill C-15 or the United Nations Declaration (on) the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act , is about to be tabled in Parliament for the THIRD time, no matter any voices of opposition. ALL political parties of Canada are going to pass this Dangerous and for me Morally Condemnable Bill. We must not allow the Canadian Government to first use our Canadian First Nations Communities as a pawn in their FALSE representation of reconciliation . Nor must we allow our Christian based Religious , Doctrines, policies and practices to become Against the Law.. The only way for EVIL to prevail is for GOOD MEN and Women to do NOTHING. I sit on the Blood Reserve in Southern Alberta, I am Non-native, but have been married to my Blood Tribe Status Member husband for 28 years we have six boys. I see the False Narrative being believed by this Dangerous pending Legislation, that for all of United Nations intents and Purposes has been and will continue to be a intended source of major contention between Canadians. The Truth of this UNDRIP Document that is about to be entrenched into All Canadian Laws, needs to be seen for what it is , a TOOL to breed contention, fighting, and to take All peoples of Canada’s Rights away.

UNDRIP has defined in the ANNEX what INDIGENOUS isn’t... Not what it is .. I am on the Blood Reserve , I see the words of this document being overlooked , but are the KEY words ... The typical meaning of Indigenous ISNT the same please hear me!!! The second paragraph in the ANNEX it says “ (Affirming)( that indigenous peoples )(are equal )(to all other peoples, )(while recognizing )(the right of all peoples )to be different, to consider themselves different, and to be respected as such. READ that NATIVE PEOPLE and the rest of you!!!! The UN is trying to divide and conquer!! So pay attention to the ANNEX words... paragraph 3-4... (Affirming )also that all peoples contribute to the diversity and rich- ness of civilizations and cultures, which constitute the common heri- tage of humankind, (Affirming further)( that all doctrines, )(policies )(and practices)( based on or advocating )(superiority )(of peoples )(or individuals )(on the basis )(of national origin )(or racial, )(religious, )(ethnic or cultural )(((differences are racist, )))(((scientifically false, )))((legally invalid, ))(morally condemnable)( and socially unjust,) DO YOU READ the WORDS!!! After these very AFFIRMATIVE words the rest of the document and it’s claims ARE : Legally invalid .. the native lawyer or native peoples according to the second paragraph CANNOT claim themselves to be indigenous peoples, more important then any other group of people’s !!! Why ?? Read it paragraph 4 They would be advocating they are Superior.... based on any of these ((criteria )) advocating(( superiority ))of peoples or individuals on the basis of (national origin )(or racial, )(religious, )(ethnic )(or cultural )differences ((are racist)) ((, scientifically false, )) ((legally invalid, ))morally condemnable and socially unjust, The belief that Canadian indigenous in its traditional use of that word will come and take your lands its a FEAR tactic.. INDIGENOUS according to this UNDRIP are those who Do NOT Align with these :: national origin or racial, religious, ethnic or cultural differences I don’t know if any will not see themselves in one or more then one of these categories.... especially for the “traditionally “ “termed “ indigenous Canadian.. but when we say we are one of these things according to the ANNEX : WE ARE RASIST , LEGALLY INVALID.... read the words... yes , it’s an agenda by the UN , it’s called (EVERY One) will own NOTHING .. and we will ALL Be Happy!! The great reset.. This document even uses the phrase “ GOOD FAITH “ in fulfillment .” I read that and I laughed.. Really?? Good Faith!! Fact : Blood tribe, of Southern Alberta WON a huge “lands “claim that would should have give each native band member the up words of $70,000 each ...but the Canadian Government is Appealing that WIN, WHY?? They are trying to pass this Bill C -15 and implement UNDRIP.. so the government can then say... “ Your an indigenous peoples , advocating as a group.. sorry, your not (superior) to any other people’s!! To suggest that you are , you are a RACIST and Legally Invalid.. case closed! Do you understand!!! Just based on those few paragraphs in the ANNEX of the UNDRIP Document.. id like to see anyone organizing themselves Not under those categories the UN and BIll C 15 have defined as RASIST .. you can’t!! When this passes based on a false “ Good Faith” premise .. and indigenous peoples and the rest of Canadians realize the truth of the LIE they are determined to legislate.
