Where did you get you bimini? I have a Vic 18 as well and have been really wanting some kind of cover over the cockpit
i just ordered it on line don't remember web site measured from rail to bottom of boom and then width
@@markssailingvideo5989 Cool. Perhaps I haven't been looking in the right place.
How did the rope come out of the clutch when storing away? Did the clips prevent it being removed?
Thanks for this. I have a C22 on the Chesapeake Bay
I take it you were single handling it?
You can fix any spider crack! Dremel the crack out fill with epoxy and fiberglass strand, sand and repaint or you refair it by using a fairing compound instead of expoxy.
Do you have videos on repairing the cracked deck? I have a 78 I want to spruce up. thanks.
i think i have one on their for the toe rail cracks.. I only had to fix the flat spots that were lightly cracked not to bad so was able to sand gel coat down if its in the textured part their is no way to fix other then to sand texture off lots of labor.. i have seen some people for the flat section use heavy buildup primer then sand but cracks sometimes come back... a few small spyder cracks like by the mast step can be ground out and filled then sanded... the endeavor 32 deck were really bad for cracking have a friend with one no fix just lives with it
@@markssailingvideo5989 what material do you use to fill cracks? thanks.
@@docjeffry if their are just a few grind them out and use new gel coat its only the gel coat that is cracked in most cases
I have those on my tiller handle and all my handhold on my 1983 Catalina 27. I always get compliments on them.
Good job, looking forward to getting around to this for my 22.
Great project. What did you use on the woodwork?
I think it was spar varnish bad memory their is a video on it
Part of the issue with 4 of 6 chain plates may have been galvanic corrosion stemming from dissimilar metal contact with the strapping material. I admire your attention to detail, care, and desire to do the job right. 👍
you still got the 22'?
sold it 3 months ago to some really nice folks by dallas tx and i am sure they are loving it I just have a hunter 28 at present
One of the best little boats ever made! You did a great job fixing it up. Cheers!
Hi I have the same color C 22. Mine need to be painted. Do you now where can find the paint for the light blue color. Thanks
Very Good ... Great How To Video... THANKS
Any feedback on the Tiller Clutch; I think that it is the better of the products on the market.
seems really nice construction and easy to install not sure how it works just sold my boat a couple of weeks ago
@@markssailingvideo5989 so 2nd happiest day of your life? Getting out or changing vessels?
@@darb4091 no not really liked the catalina just did not need it right now have the hunter 28 and truthfully I think enjoyed the challenge of the refit more then anything else back on the web looking at next trailer sailor project
How do you like it after a year or so?
I'm interested in the Bimini Can you give me the specs on it?
😅 pr໐๓໐Ş๓
Thank you for posting this and your other videos.
Thanks for sharing your catalina project. I'm about to start on my catalina and this is perfect timing.
Pretty nice!
Ouch! Seeing new hole in the mast... That looks like a new weak spot to me... But Im not an engineer.
What kind of sewing machine and thread do u use? I have a regular $300 machine. Singer. Needle?
sailrite ultrafeed LSZ-1 does straight and zigzag i have gone thru 4 layers of sunbrella material with no problem goes thru plastic window as well they have different thead i use T-90
Get Dacron to wrap around the cushion to tighten it up inside the covers
You did a terrific job. Looks great.
I love the Catalina 22 so much and restauration vids are pretty rare here. i would love to see a complete video of a sweet customisation/overhauling of that boat. You did some pretty good job so far in the cleaning/sanding/painting. Greetings from Bordeaux - France
Awesome sewing! 👍 And yep anyone can sew with very little experience just get to know the basics and the rest is trying 👍
I could not find these on Catalina direct. I have searched chain plate, chain plates, chain plate bolts, and nothing. I searched both C22 and all boats. Thanks for any help.
should be under deck and or hardware give them a call
@@markssailingvideo5989 Thanks. I found them. Had to use chainplate instead of chain plate.
How well does the V18 go upwind?
its fair - being a shallow shoal keel its a more stable ride then a fin keel compared to my catalina 22 with more of a fin keel which points much better but vic has less up and down bobbing due to its keel weight being distributed from bow to stern
Is there a dodger that is made for the Catalina 22?
never have seen one but its possible since their is no rigging on the pop top but it could not extend out pass pop top edges because cleats and wenches are or right their on roof top unless you pushed it in front of hardware but you could go to sail shop and have a dodger made that went from bimini to pop top
@@markssailingvideo5989 I`ve seen a cover for the pop top when it`s up. Sorta like an all encapsulating tent over the pop top. Looks like for camping, and such. I guess that might serve as a basis to start from. Thxs! BTW that`s a great looking Catalina 22 you refurbished. I like the color.
@@markssailingvideo5989 www.catalinadirect.com/shop-by-boat/catalina-22/canvas-covers/pop-top-curtain-c-22-lt-85wscreens/
@@Nick-zz6xl could be then you would just have to add wings out the sides will limit access to bow most guides recommend not to sail with poptop up
Where did you get your windows?
the windows " glass are original calatlina direct has all the new gaskets if you have a broken window take the frame to local glass company and they can cut new piece
They look great!
cool
Stingy Sailor had something to say about chain plate position, but I can't find it now. Basically he affirmed what you siad. Rotate them to be in line with the mast.
Really impressive work!!!
I bought a 1980 Victoria V18 this past month from a gentleman in Florida. He couldn’t get it registered in Florida without a title. He said you might be the previous owner. Vin# is VYN80300M80A. I am needing a past registration for the boat. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Super cool boat. One came up for sale in my area.. my Catalina 22 is in the shop for the foreseeable future, I might snag it to at least be able to stay sharp sailing wise.. what’s the interior like on one of these? Surely it’s fine for an overnight I’d imagine
i dont even remember the inside not much
good to see the capabilities of the Vic - thinking about getting one myself.
loved the vic great 1 or 2 person day tripper unless your tall nice long cockpit but benches are low for tall people.... double check chain plates and add thru bolts will never have a problem
Nicely done Mark. Rode out a few storms like that one in Galveston bay, usually up further toward Kemah. A little adrenaline now and again makes you feel alive!
Can you please provide some details about your Bimini top? What are the dimensions and where you got it?
bought it online just gave my own measurements sat in boat and just measured head room from edge and then across dont remember what site
What Bimini top do you have on the Victoria? What are the dimensions? I would like to put one on my V18 but know it is a rather small size top.
I have the same boat and the same question!
I think I just purchased this boat.
touch base with me i can give you some insight should be a pvc homemade roller furler two little gove boxes under bench seat large back hatch loved that boat supper easy to sail

@@markssailingvideo5989 I do have some questions. I tried calling the number that you listed and what it come up as some girl and said Mark Crawford did not belong to that number so I listed my number. If you would give me a call please sir.
Nice detail around the chain plates.
Those two screws that keep eye bolt from turning was the MAIN REASON that I was doing this project. No matter how tight, these always managed to turn when putting mast up or down, and that then breaks the seal. And if they aren’t pointing towards mast, you can bend a turnbuckle. Ask me how I know. The beefier shank and larger deck plate is the icing on the cake. Thanks for posting this.
Do you feel that sailrite machine is worth the expense? My wife has a singer but I'm not sure how it will cope with marine canvas and materials
yes most none commercial machines have plastic gears will not go thru 4 layers of sunbrella or plastic window very well have only every broke 1 needle just has the torqe you need
Did you paint that on the trailer outside or did you take it off the trailer.
outside on trailer blue was sprayed with a wagner power painter ,, topside was brushed
How did it lay with the Wagner? Do you think its a better finish then roll and tip
yes with reducer added it lays like glass and is fast if i had compressor i would have used clearcoat gun remember paint is only for color not a filler so prep primer then wet sand before color is the key
Total cost?
material left over from hunter project i believe sunbrella was $24 a yard at 48 inches, base material around $12 a Yard 1 yard for blue 1/2 yard for base material so about $36.00 per cushion small back cushions even less... sewing machine !!!! but worth every penny
@@markssailingvideo5989 ive been heari g that the cost of cushions is expensive. In considering DIY. Thanks for your response!
@@abelzoni2138 yes can be very expensive if you have foam watch sailrite cushion video on utube then buy cheap material and do a few practice inside cuchion do not need to be sunbrella
Very nice indeed.
I really enjoyed the beautiful scenery in this video
I can’t show my wife these videos because she’d wonder why I’m taking so long with my Catalina 22 restoration. You motivate me to get her done! Thank you. Boat is looking great.
it did sit in my shed for 2 years first... have free access to a 28 hunter so was not really exited either about the work she just kept calling me every time i went in the shed, once i started its not really that much work
how much paint did you use? Im about to paint my Victoria 18 and Im wondering if a quart will do the bottom and then a quart for the top sides....thanks
1 quart will do hull with no problem 1 quart for top side smooth 1 quart for textured section tons left over
I have a Vic 18 iv been messing with...I plan to sale it and get a catalina 22 for more space in the cabin. Keep the videos coming!!
I had a Vic loved it check out my vids on it just no room for two boats supper boat to learn on
