Hello, I was planning to visit interior 26.09-27.09, using F208 road (especially south part from Vik to Landmannlaugar) but today I checked roads condition and most part of this road is marked as road for mountain vehicle. Is it possible to drive there with rentę Dacia Duster 4x4? As I searched, it hasn’t rained for a few days . Maybe someone has travelled there recently ans can tell me more about road condition. I would appreciate any feedback.
In general: When driving with your Duster, check the wading depth beforehand to ensure safe passage. If you're unsure about a ford, it's best to walk through it first to assess the depth and conditions. In fords marked with flags, use these as a guide and drive close to them. Drive through larger puddles more towards the sides, where they tend to be shallower. Pay attention to the current, as it may have created deeper sections in some areas and shallower ones in others. It's easier when the tire pressure is set to about 2 bar. If in doubt, turn back.
This is a really nice video. That descent down the track that eventually leads you to Akureyri is really beautiful and even a little thrilling, as in some places it is pretty steep. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you very much. I will never forget this tour. It was my very first complete trip from south to north in the Highlands. It was just amazing!
nice work .. what were you driving?
Thank you. Normally I drive Isuzu D-Max.
Very nice video, this is helpful to people who would like to know what the track is like before they make the journey. Thanks.
Thank you very much. That's the purpose: Having free online storage for me watching the trips again and giving others a little help for assessing the F-Roads they planning to drive.
And it's amazing how fast the rivers change on F249. Was there 2 days ago and 4 crossings were completely different.
Is this road considered as F road? Can you drive on rental vehicle?
No, it's a normal gravel road. You can drive it with a rental.
@@RoadTripOnkyMonk awesome! Thank you. Going to Iceland next week!
@@Lviv89 Have fun!
Very nice video. This will really help people understand the track into and out of Þórsmörk. Thanks.
Thank you very much!
We were there same day and saw the SUV converted submarine. Apparently the repair guy got it running there after drying out the air filter and a lot of other things. Bit of a miracle to me.
@shibbe1 Thx for info! Good to hear that they could drive home with the reconverted car! Lucky for not having a destroyed engine piston.
Did you stop and turn around there at the end of the video?
No, the GoPro battery was dead.. Plan was to drive to the south over F752 and F26 as the northern part of F26 was closed. But we decided due to the uncertain weather to go North via F752 and finally go south on 35. Was a good decision because at the end of the day the complete F26 was closed.
nice video. Which 4x4 did you drive?
Thx! I drove an Isuzu Dmax.
@@RoadTripOnkyMonkWas it modified or a Standard one? I'm thinking about what i need to do to my new Single Cab Ranger with camper shell to drive most of the roads there. I guess Skid plates and good AT Tires should do the job. Do you think i need bigger tires or are standard sized ones ok
@jdexplores01 That's the configuration I have: skit plates and 31' AT's plus Old Man Emu suspension. As the Isuzu has 800mm fording depth I didn't mount a snorkel. Maybe for next year. Now I could ford depths ca 4 cm above my tires. Drove a few 4×4 but never a Ranger, so I can't tell you about its best tire size. Do you need a stronger suspension with the cabin on it?
@@RoadTripOnkyMonk your dmax sounds reasonable for a tourer. The Ranger also has a wading depth of 80cm and i'm not trying to do rivers that deep. I built the shell myself this summer. It's made from isolated PVC Sandwich Plates and Aluminium Prifiles. It's only about 70-80kg which is super light for the size of a Single Cab, so i stick with the suspension also because the truck is brand new. I'm only thinking a lot about tire size, because here in Germany It's very complicated to modify something like that. So do you have 265/70 R17 and no problems on any track?
Nice built! 80kg is awesome. Yes, I have these tires. Never had a problem with traction.
Is it possible to drive this road on 31 inch tires?
No problem.
How many cm deep would you estimate for Blafjalakvisl here? When I drove F261 in 2022 the water level was high enough to completely cover the island in the middle, except for the large rock.
On that day I think about 40cm and the dip in the middle about 60cm. In 2 years the riverbed has changed a few times. I guess it is a little bit more carved in.
@@RoadTripOnkyMonk Thanks!
Nice Video! It's great to see recent footage from the highland roads, to be able to plan accordingly! Did you reference the Duster because you were driving one or because it is a popular vehicle?
Hey, thx for your positive comment! I did the reference because it's a popular 4×4 vehicle, with which you can drive few F-roads, but it has it's limits there.
@@RoadTripOnkyMonk Thank you! Because we were on a Duster but we left out F210 and F261 because we also thought the Duster would be too small.
Hello, I will go in september (next month) with friends with motorhome without 4x4. Is it possible to do until the first parking? Without crossing the river. Thank for the video!
Hello, I think it's possible. Last time I was there about 2 weeks ago, the road conditions were pretty poor the last 2km though. (See here: ruclips.net/video/3g93r1GJZ9c/видео.htmlsi=GVpbOsa2FZ4AnV2g) Drive slow and carefully and you will make it. Have fun!
Update: Was there a couple of days ago. The road was better. Keep in mind, when you want to park/ camp there before 3pm you need a reservation. Check the weather and wind before, maybe lower your tire pressure and have a safe journey!
Thanks for uploading this! I'll add this to my list for my trip coming up in a week and a half.
Thx! Have fun and a save travel! 👍🏻
Is it possible to drive F210 early May?
No, it isn't possible. Depending on the weather conditions, the earliest date is 21.06.
Nice video and interesting document. With real time footage, we can appreciate the landscape and the quality of the road. I was in this region at the end of May 2022 but the road was still "lokad" because of the snow. East of Iceland is really beautiful. I admire your flag. Is it a diplomatic vehicle?
Thx for your comment! We did an international roadtrip and had all white Landcrusiers. So for recognition and fun we put our nationals flags on the cars.
🤣🤣🤣😂😅👍
Nice!
