This is absolutely beautiful❤ I played this at a college program for students and the struggle was crazy. I’m so thankful to have been at that program though, or else I would never have gotten so much better. I wish one day I could be a part of a chamber orchestra to signify that I’ve really come so far in my life ❤

一度だけだが、ヨーロッパの古都の教会でオーケストラ演奏を聞いた経験があります。 当時、私自身も音楽家への道を志向していたこともあり、大変興味深く聞かせていただきました。 感想は「まったく別の曲に聞こえる！！日本とでは弾き方が全く異なる！！」というものでした。 最近では日本でも環境の良いホールや練習場も増え、感性も豊かなっ若者が多くなってきたように思います。 これが、「一度は留学してかの地の空気を吸い、日常生活し、学ぶ必要がある」という言い分が腑に落ちた経験でした。日本人は立派に西洋音楽に対する感性を有しています。国はもっとこうした若手を支援できれば良いのに・・と思った次第です。拙文謝罪

I was a professional oboe player for 25 years. I converted my technique/style from European to American and never looked back. This is now my favourite performance, probably because it's played by a wonderful exponent of the American style, and also because it uses a "small" orchestra as specified by the composer. For me, Frank's playing epitomises the US style, with its sophistication, restrained vibrato, incredible control of articulation and dynamics, soft dark tone colour, and ability to "blow through" the read. I have problems with all the European performances of this work that I've heard. Generally, the orchestra is far too loud and the soloist feels they have to fight to stay out front. When combined with the inherently wide/dominating European vibrato, subtleties tend to "go out of the window", and it turns into a simple endurance test. Players are then applauded for their double-breathing abilities, when actually they should be breathing far more often in order to exploit the possibilities for "micro" phrasing/dynamics. I would suggest to anyone who is studying this, my favourite, concerto that they first learn to play it without any vibrato and without double breathing.
