Kawasaki Z650 // NEW High seat // Detailed look and impression
Просмотров 52 тыс.7 лет назад
As many may know, the Z650 is a great bike for short people, but might be slightly uncomfortable for tall riders. I'm 6ft2in (193cm) and the Z650 was my first choice, I absolutely love it after a few months of riding but I was waiting since the beginning for a higher seat. On longer rides, I felt a little bit cramped on the stock seat, especially with the thicker riding pants and higher boots.....
Very professional work
What i go thru for my motorcycle practical test (Not inclusive of theory lessons/self theory test practise/theory test): No.1: 200cc and below (Circuit) - S-course, Crank course, Slope stopping and moving off from stationary, Plank, Pylons, E-brake, Actual road riding test (No expressway). No.2: Between 201-400cc (Circuit) - Same as above for no.1 includes Half standing posture riding thru multiple humps. Actual road riding test (No expressway) No.3: 401cc and above (No limit) - Same as above for no.2 but no actual road test required. All test passing must have 1 year allowance required before you are allow to take the next one. Concept are almost the same like Japan system. No slippers, short sleeve, short, helmet with tinted visor or without d.o.t approve are allowed and gloves are a must have. But it was worth it. ❤❤❤❤❤
Need a tank pad too!

Did you test a second battery? How to install it? Thanks.
I had only one. But if you'd get a second one, it would go under the seat.
@@gregswiatek515 Thanks I'm gonna buy one next week. Bye.
I like Z650, but I felt quite uncomfortable on the stock seat with my 188 cm. Because of the shape of the stock seat, you always slide ahead and "balls fight with the gas tank". 😀 The high seat is not only 30 mm higher, but also more flat and, as for me, this offers more comfortable riding position. Of course, if your local dealer offers an opportunity to make a test ride with the high seat - do it first, before purchase, cause "testes differ". Safety roads to everybody!
Oh, so many things have changed over the years! 2023 I started to work in Korea again after leaving in 2011. My Korean Drivers license was still in the system, after I made it in 2004. My ARC has now in 2023 the same number as back then, so there was only a fee, I had to pay (around 35.000 Won, for not updating the license for a few years). But HOW I got my Drivers license in the first place, was even funnier! In 2004 you did not have to exchange your national DL to a korean one. You only needed to have your License (German, in my case) ready and it got translated at the Drivers License Test site (World Cup Stadium was mine). Since I only wanted to ride a 125ccm machine, I only needed my cars drivers license translated and that would have been fine. All around the License site there was advertising for doing the Motorcycle test and it was only 5000 Won. Well, once there, I decided to sign up for a test date and was allowed to check and test drive the course. It was mirrored to your course in the video, so it startet with the 90°-90°. I was applauded after I finished and asked myself why. The reason: I would have passed, had that been the real test. There where teenagers in school uniforms all around, 35 at the track, more in the ranks. They applauded all the riders, who passed the test. I would have been one of them! I went back there a week later and spoke with a guy, who let me practice, at least sitting on the way to small bike. He told me to not start in first, but second gear, so it wouldn't be so jumpy. I did not follow the guys advioce and then failed my actual test twice on one day (I was probably getting a second chance). 100% of the failers failed at the 90°-90°! Went back a few days later, started in 2nd gear and passed. Like 4 others out auf 35 (that is the actual average number for passers!), 2 Koreans, me and an Italian, who had arrived at the site on his Ducati already! That is how I got my Korean Drivers Licens for motorbike. Costs: 5000 Won Eye exam at the site, 5000 Won for the stamp (you stamp it on a sheet of paper, I had 2 stamps at the end for 2 tries, other people had 2-3 or more SHEETS! 5000 Won for something else, so I ended up paying up to 20.000 Won for the whole thing! It cost more money in Germany to have it accepted for German License. It worked. Unfortunatly this whole practice stopped later in, I think 2005 and the exchange thing started. Btw.: Naver has now an option for "two wheelers" or "exclude Cars only", and it is mostly in English.
Do they really allow you to do some practice before taking the exam ?
Back then yes, it's been a while now so best would be to ask then ahead of time, good luck !

I just picked those up. Haven’t put them on yet but they don’t appear to be very grippy. Also a little too glossy for me. Any regrets as far a grip? Meaning do you feel like it could be a bit more grippy?
They have two different models - the volcano ones seem extremely grippy, and the ones I picked less grippy, which is what I was looking for. My riding jeans have a little bit of wear from these, and for me they grip enough. I was reading that the volcano ones are so grippy it can damage riding pants heavily, so I avoided these. If I'd be using the bike regularly on a track I'd probably go for the more grippy model - but for everyday riding I'm happy with these. I guess it comes down to what you need. Enjoy !
Thank you!
Thanks a lot for this video. It's very helpful :)

About 55 to 80 kilometers, it depends of the speed that you drive. The slower the speed, the more kilometers you can drive.

I have a question for you Greg. We're gonna move to Beijing next spring. Don't know yet where we're gonna live but my wife is going to work at the UN there so it probably will be in the city centre. What are my options to be able to ride a scooter there? Thx in advance!
I've been to Beijing a few times, and from my understanding, there are areas downtown where you can't drive scooters there. It might be just some parts of the center, because out of there for sure there were some. You'll have to look into which kind of scooter you can get to be able to have a licence plate, there might be maximum speed limitations to get a licence plate. That kind of stuff is changing all the time so when you get there you can get the latest info. At some point they had temporary "yellow plates" which allowed faster scooters to have a 3 year temporary plate, there are also "white plates" for scooters usually not exceeding 25 km/h and those are just legal and permanent. Anyways this might have been changing so to confirm once you're there with locals and the police stations which manage the plates. Good luck !
@@gregswiatek515 many thx for all the info!!
How about the passenger seat. Are they comfortable for the passenger ?
I asked my wife. She said it was fine, didn't have any problem. =)
Hi and thank you very much for your video ! I already have a french motorbike driving licence. Do you know if I cant use my international driving licence to rent a motorbike in South Korea ? Have a great day !
Hi Celine, you're welcome ! It should be fine, my colleague Fabrice had his French motorcycle licence and he could rent a bike in Seoul. I did rent at the same place than him with my Korean licence. If you get the chance, have someone call the shop for you to ask prior just to be sure. Enjoy and safe driving !
Hi again Greg and thank you for your answer and the good advice :) I'll try to find someone who speaks korean then :) have a good day and fun rides over there !

hi ,i buy one scooter secend hand 2 day ago its 8000 km but when i drive its sound like breck pip pip pip i don't undastand its need to change breack or something ...please let me know ..and how i connect after lost bar code ...
The sound comes from the front or rear brake ? The way the brakes are made on this bike is that the caliper is floating - maybe the brake pads or brake disk needs to be changed... It depends how the owner before you used them. If i was you i would take it to a NIU shop, or a bike shop to have the brake pads and discs checked. As for the bar code, maybe you can enter the number manually? It might be visible under the battery, or might also be engraved somewhere on the frame (maybe under the seat if I remember well). Sorry I don't have the bike anymore right now so I can't check. Good luck with those two points !
@@gregswiatek515 it’s came from back whele
@@Pinkudaniemridha well I'd have the rear wheel checked (brake pads, brake disk, bearings) to make sure all is fine there.
One of the main reasons I bought this bike is my 29” inseam at 5’5” the bike feels like it was built for me in a world where everything I ride has to be professionally lowered. I wouldn’t recommend this bike to anyone taller than 5’9”ish
Thank you so much for the vid man. I've been looking everywhere for pic or video of this tank grip.
Thanks ! Same for me.. I even emailed them to ask if they have a real picture :-D But I just took the risk in the end, to get it without knowing how it would look.
How does the bike handle wet weather? Or flooded streets?
I always tried to avoid rain and flooded areas, but got caught a few times. Never had any issues riding in rain, and it was strong - no failures whatsoever. I did have to cross some flooded streets, I guess it was about 4-5 inches high and didn't have issues.. just went through slowly. I did it because there was no other way, but id avoid it if possible!
Maxium speed
It depends of the country and the regulations. But there are also aftermarket electronic control units, which go to 65 km/h and sometimes more.
6ft2 is 187cm not 193cm broo
Really love the serenity of your vid! I'm living in Seychelles and am about to order a NQI GTS. Really looking forward riding it on our beautiful Mahe island. After riding around on a noisy, vibrating ICE scooter the GTS will be bliss!
Nice ! Id be glad to see a bike video from there !
Thanks for the review! I just thinking to get the NQi sport, surprisingly in Indonesia the top speed is ~60 km/h, and it cost for about IDR 30m / €1900 (way cheaper than other variant, cause it already fully assembled within the country)
60km/h is great ! Nice ! Just be careful at That speed, to make sure you can brake on time if anything happens... :-). By the way, which part of Indonesia are you in?
@@gregswiatek515 I'm on capital Jakarta. Actually with the heavy traffic jam on the city we rarely get the top speed, maybe NIU trying to be competitive with other electric vehicle that already available here like Viar Q1, United T1800, or Gesits (local brand) that have roughly same specs (except the smart apps connectivity, a plus point for NIU).
@@heronimus17 cool, enjoy ! I think the price there seems reasonable for the NQi sport, considering the quality is pretty good and you get a good speed as well. Enjoy !

@@aircorgihui43Hi just bought a used bike,do you mind sharing some links for suspension, disc rotors and other compatible stuff?
can the battery be charged while removed?
Yes, you can either : 1) plug the bike while the battery is inside, or, 2) remove the battery and plug it at home.
What mileage are you getting in a single charge ?
Hi ! Well it depends of the speed you go. If you go very slow (20km/h) you get tons of mileage out of the battery, if you go more like 45km/h or above you'll get less. From memory, when I was using it in average of a mix of slow and fast speed, through city riding, I'd say it was about 55km roughly. Hard to say exactly cause I don't have the bike anymore right now. I could get more range if i needed to go to a far point and back, so i was then purposefully going slow to be sure to go and back, and still have a little safety margin in case. The range was a bit lower in winter months, but not so much cause I stored the bike indoors most of the time, or at least taking the battery indoors when not using it on very cold days. Hope this helps.
A great life
Hi handsome host. Did you accedentally make a mistake on the price?
Hey can you make another long term review maybe after 30k mileage
I'd love to, but unfortunately I left china and had to leave this bike behind, it was too complicated to bring it back with me with me mainly for the battery. Anyhow, I'll be getting a new bike soon, but totally different.. Yamaha MT-09 2022.. cheers !
How did this not get recommended to my feed?!? Awesome footage!!! 😄
Thank you ! :-D
Hey. Thanks for the video. I am 188cm and I am about to buy this bike. Would you recommend it for my height even without the extra seat? Thanks
Should be fine, the best is to test drive it if you can. At least sit on it for a while at the dealership. Good luck !
193cm is 6ft4 not 6ft2. Got to say that bike looks way too small physically for someone your size
Yeah oops for the conversion of units :-P and I'm an engineer... ! Yeah it was a bit small, my next bike will be bigger. Are you tall also? What do you ride ?
Hi, I am planning a cross country motor bike ride (Seoul- Busan - Gwangju - Seoul) , but I see you mention there are no motorcycles allowed on highways, im a bit disappointed as going on a motorway with a motorcycle is prohibited so is there any other way to reach these cities with motorcycle or should I just forget my plans as its not possible, I would be glad for that info, thanx in advance.
You'll always find some alternate routes and roads avoiding the highway, no worries. Also, I'd say it's not such a bad thing, you'll see more of the country and highway motorcycle riding is not always comfortable or fun. Just be careful and safe on all the other roads, gotta be ready for someone to pop out of nowhere..! Take care and safe riding

Got a question ❗ How is the battery capacity doing; has the scooter lost range❓ You have hot summers, cold winters, right? Is that rough on the batteries...? Thanks; Great Video ❗
Hi ! Sorry for the late answer. Honestly the range haven't diminished much, it's minor. At the same time, I always took very good care of the battery (the bike was stored indoors 99% of the time in winter overnight, always in the shade in summer, I took the battery indoors on cold days when going to work.). When it was cold (-5 Celsius let's say), I'd lose about 10%-15% of range compared to summer. Sorry to not be so precise, but I'd say try to not keep the battery out in the cold overnight and you shouldn't have any issues!
@@gregswiatek515 Well, I'd guess Niu includes decent batteries, the quality seems good, generally, so I guess the batteries should last a bit in the long run. Taking the battery inside in the wintertime seems a little bit of a hassle, then again, I wouldn't be using the scooter every day when it's cold outside. Parking in the shade in the summertime should be possible. I find the question very interesting… How long do these batteries last we're being sold right now in all those new EVs?!? After all, they are the expensive part in those vehicles. Looking forward to some studies the next few years. So, no real notable capacity loss, right?🙂 Sounds good!
Wow, what city are you in? It is beautiful there!
Tianjin, not far from Beijing =)
Is this support fast charging ? what is charging time ? and what is the battery drain issue at idle, if you have any experience of this idle case.
I'm sorry I don't know if it supports fast charging.. i only got the stock charger That cones with it. I never timed it very precisely, but i think usually from like 15% to 100% it would take about 5 or 6 hours I'd estimate. As for idle, I'd say maybe it would lose about 5 to 7% a day.. again I never pay too much attention to that, but it was never an issue. All those are just rough estimates..
What about shock absorbers?
They are fine - for the usage and the speed of the bike they work well, but don't expect high quality there. You will still feel the bumps and cracks on the roads - it's not amazing if you're riding on rough terrain. And of course they are not adjustable like on higher-end motorcycles (damper, rebound, etc).
@@gregswiatek515 did you tried the uqi?
@@axel9546 yes I did. The U series came after the N series so they felt a bit "newer" as they had a few more modern features (for example, no need to put the key in the scooter to drive it, proximity was enough). But the one I tired was slower and has less range than the N series so I preferred the N. Good luck !
what is the length of the seat ? 2 persion fit their easily ? please share your experience
Hi! My wife did ride a lot with me - she's 5'7" and 117lb. She was always comfortable and we did ride together quite a lot. The seat is quite cushy, she would need a little break after about over an hour. I can't measure it now but I'd say it the seat is between something like 20 to 25 inches long overall. The footpegs for the 2nd person have two positions (closed and open).
