I don't really see the benefits of artificial sentience, but I can definitely think of downsides.

In the video, I said I don't hear much talk about the moral implications of artificial sentience. On second thought, that line of questioning is a pretty common trope in science fiction. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem to be that much of a talking point in the current zeitgeist around AI & LLMs. Then again, I might just be out of the loop.

Love your conclusion.
Thanks!
Unfortunately this is not true for all cases, given my true passion and goals for life is to be a menace when I am in the retirement home.
Fair point!
All Truths are Relative
Love this one! You nailed it.
Thanks! Glad you think so
Personally, l don't believe you can grow without pain, or at least discomfort, no matter how you call the process.
I'd be inclined to agree with you, I even say so a few times in the video. My point of contention isn't about that fact, but rather about which framings and approaches are most constructive to help us along this growth journey.
I have no career path myself, just an asshole with too much knowledge and not enough people in my life to annoy with it. So the world gets to listen to my thoughts instead. Maybe it will pay out soon here
I can relate to that ^^ Hope it does pay out for you!
Thanks for the shout out man.
O_O wow, I never expected you'd stumble on this video. My pleasure for the shout-out! It's well deserved. It wasn't the first, and it definitely shouldn't be the last. You've published plenty of valuable insights, after all! I should be the one expressing gratitude for all your work and free content. You really helped me mend my relationship with marketing and entrepreneurship, as well as clarifying what I want to do for a living (actually, you contributed to the creation of this channel). So thank you so much! I'm truly grateful and wish you all the best!
You nailed the paradox of selflessness. As Rand puts it: "If it is selfish and evil for me to take, and it is selfless and good for me to give, then it is not also the case that it is evil for them to take what I give?" She goes on to explain why those that argue that say no, and why their argument demonstrates their hatred for pleasure and the self and growth and humans in general
Thanks, I'm glad you think so. I must admit I'm not very familiar with Objectivism / Ayn Rand's work, except from second-hand sources that usually aren't glowing, but I mostly agree with her on that point at least. From what I read about it on Wikipedia, I also quite liked her views on art / psycho-epistemology. I'd nuance the diagnosis a bit though. At least based on my personal experience, this stance usually seems to stems from a place of low self-esteem and shame that originates from formative experiences. I don't think people "hate pleasure" simply for the sake of hating pleasure and coming to the conversation from a place of curiosity and empathy is more likely to inspire them to shift towards a more balanced mindset.
"Selfless Love" is by definition not love. Rational selfishness is loving your loved ones because it feels good to make life better for people you love. See Ayn Rand's Objectivist Ethics, or Tara Smith's Normative Ethics of Ayn Rand's Objectivism
Interesting choice of thumbnail and such original source material... Don't you get tired of smelling your own farts?
Interesting, what gives you that impression? If you're willing to expand, I'd be curious to know which specific aspect(s) of the video's content and/or my demeanor you found objectionable.
The prime example of bad faith is the collective Western world, what's with the photo of Asians, they are so scary lmao.
Great and interesting video by the way, keep it up! I look forward to seeing more in the future
Thanks!
Yeah, could it perhaps extend beyond the idea of 'being delegated' a task that can make normal people do awful things? It makes me think of how indecisive and lost people(especially teenagers) delegate their own moral growth / personal development to a 'idol' like a leading political figure or celebrity without actively questioning the correctness of these values in their search to fit in under some banner. Just as you mentioned, they make the choice of not making a choice and adopt terrible values - such as racism, misogony, etc...
Yes, existential bad faith most likely plays a role in people joining harmful ideologies and groupthink, although I don't think it's the only factor. For instance, wanting to belong to a group is a pretty natural human drive that probably also strongly contributes to it. My goal isn't to chastise people, but being aware of these tendencies helps mitigate them, as I mentioned in the video. However small my reach is, I'd be happy if I could help promote a bit more critical thinking in the world. I touched on similar topics in my video on thought leadership. With that being said, sometimes deferring to someone with a higher expertise than us is the right call.
Interesting topic. You have interesting ideas but the presentation is off. If you want pointers: Thumbnails are good. Titles are too long and they don't hook/raise interest. Content is kinda bad, no structure, not well articulated, not insightful or that valuable
Welcome to the grind
Thanks!
Great to see you back.
Thanks!
If we set PRACTICAL PREVENTION OF ALL EVIL (defined exhaustively as DISASTERS, PREDATION, DISEASES ~ which include all birth defects, all weapons manufacture, all violence ~ and DEATH) as the sole purpose cum criterion of proof of all knowledge, then whatever assumptions as to existences that enable achieving this goal would be the 100% accurate answer to this historic question (what is reality?) forever. Not realizing this fact that "purpose free search for knowledge would lead us nowhere" is the reason why human race as a whole, from antiquity to present day, from Thales of Miletus to Stephen Hawking and still continuing, is yet to derive the mathematical model of the mechanism for even a single natural phenomenon that could PREDICT accurately when it could harm life function, let alone PREVENT such. When one doesn't know where one wants to go no road can be wrong, neither can any be right. That has always been (and still, of course, IS) the fate of all hitherto search for knowledge of the entire human race, with the ideal : KNOWLEDGE FOR ITS OWN SAKE OUT OF CURIOSITY.
What you're suggesting reminds me of Sam Harris' argument for "objective" morality. I think trying to find some minimum common ground between people is commendable and necessary, and I would agree that harm reduction is a good contender. However, even then our access to knowledge is still based on somewhat arbitrary assumptions/goals, whether I agree with them or not. Once you've settled on a few of these, you can indeed derive pretty decisive answers from that basis, although they remain contingent, and I'm not convinced this gives us access to absolute answers for every single question. Furthermore, humanity taking upon itself the mission of eradicating all "evil" might cause even more evil than was already present in the first place. That's not to say we should completely give up either, but it's a precarious endeavor. I'd recommend checking out Daniel Quinn's book _Ishmael_ to expand on that idea.
Congratulations on your channel. That takes a lot of courage. Thanks for sharing your creative process.
I'm glad if it can be of interest to someone else. Thank you for the supportive comment!
Good luck with the channel! My only criticism is try to have more energy. An upbeat vibe and some edits to speed up your delivery can do wonders, take it from me. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words and feedback! I'll take it into consideration and work on it.
Arthur, great to see you on YT! And thank you for the kind mention :)
Thanks for the kind words and for inspiring me with your insights in the first place!
how could one be certain about the answer unless the answer was yes?
I'm not sure whether I understand your question. Do you mean the answer to the question in the video's title: "Is certainty even possible?". If so, then yes, the only way to be certain about its answer is if certainty is possible in the first place (except if you subscribe to academic skepticism I guess).
Well, at least to my understanding is, one cannot be certain about pretty much anything. The best you can do is have faith that your process to get to the conclusion that something could to be certain is to utilize your process to falsify other conclusions, if some other process falsifys your conclusions and seems to be able to get closer to certainty (compaired to your now falsified process), then your process for certainty needs to change, and so does your conclusions. If a process validates certainty in of itself, then that process can be utilized to assign everything as certain.
