Here ... within this dark seam where the wave comes ashore ... you and I
Brava
Kate wolf
Wow she's amazing sadly I missed on this gem for 56 years beautiful folk music.
Rest in peace!
It is!
This is perfection........
I have only recently discovered Kate Wolf and am loving getting to know her music. What a beautiful voice and clear delivery. What a loss.
I'm at a loss after my brother passed away.
I was there. Wes Bowen introduced me to jazz as I retreated into my bedroom at night. This tune grabbed me right away--the bass solo was enough but when Red comes in with the piano, wow! I was hooked. In 1959, I was 16. Wish I would have taken up the piano then. In 2006, I finally did and now at age 77, during Covid, I am newly playing Ornithology and It Don't Mean a Thing as well as many other tunes I have learned over the years--with a big thanks to my jazz piano teacher, Dave Peck of Seattle, until 2018. Never too late! Playing jazz piano and listening is one of the great joys of my life. Wes Bowen died in 2003 but a few years before his death I was driving through Utah--and lo and behold, he was doing his jazz program!! I wrote him about how he had influenced me and he kindly wrote back. Rob Crawford, Vashon, Washington.
Love ya for sharing robert ! yup me too . I made a point of going to station KSL when I accompanied my mom down to her home in Southern Utah when I was 15. He was very kind to us. He said hang on folks and disappeared down the stairs. He came back with a copy of this album. Last one on the shelf he said as he signed it and handed it to me.
Up in Vancouver BC station KSL only came in at night but listening to Blue Red in bed in the dark soothed me to sleep. A wonderful memory. Brent Tully

It's a gem I never heard before . Kate's voice still deeply impacts my life along with Nina on guitar . To Banff or anywhere in Alberta are great road trips to play Kate's music . Time and space pass by so effortlessly . Peter behind my Judy . Many , many years ago we met . It was a very special time in my life . Peter . The Calgary Folk Club . Nina was so sublime on guitar she beguiled the audience into a trance like state . Two awesome performers . RIP Kate .
Krásne piesne.Vďaka Kate.
Leonard Cohen and Kate Wolf- the ultimate pairing of musical talent
SO TRUE, RIP to both these amazing artists.
My wife and I met on a blind date in 1958. It was remarkable to find out one late evening that we both were fans of Wes Bowen and of course Red Garland. We grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada where jazz was not that big. We listened to Red at every opportunity and still do to his day. Red Garland and "Blue Red" brought us together.
I couldn’t tell you how many times that I have listened to this in the last week. She should have turned 77 this year. She had so much to give and would have used all that time for our benefit.
fantastic
She was!
Over a month for me now. I listen to one or two new to me songs of her. I just can’t get over how good she was. I feel robbed.
I wish I had discovered Kate Wolf years ago. What a shame she is no longer with us.
I never heard of kate wolf till November 2018.the monment I heard her voice & saw I knew this is a real lady but was saddent to hear she was gone XXXX RIP. yes he awalys takes the best

Me too only discovered her recently, thanks to RUclips and the lovely people who upload this rare, beautiful music, thank you
As nice a Leonard Cohen cover as anyone has ever done. RIP Kate and you too, Leonard. You left us so much.
Me too! And now I'm pathologically obsessed with her music!
Are you able to make it to the Kate Wolf memorial music festival held every year in California?
@@stuartgilroyI would love to. Will be there in spirit. Live in New Zealand too far away
Sweet as honey....
In mid-'50's Salt Lake City, when only a few kids were listening to anything but Doo-Wop or country, there was a late-night FM DJ on KSL named Wes Bowen, and this cut, "Blue Red" was his theme song (the piano break at about 2:29, after the long bass intro). He turned a lot of us greasers into jazz aficionados. Wes was as cool and laid-back as this theme.
Cohen gets to sing with Kate now. They are both missed.
A pedant writes: song title is Bird On The Wire I like her voice though.
It is absolutely amazing to me that so few people have watched this and all the other wonderful Kate Wolf songs. One of my big regrets in life is that I just now discovered her. Just one more down side of living my whole life on the east coast.
Jerre Hill i smile gratitude smiles with you friend ... we carry the world within us .. how we bestow it .. that is the real ' magic ' of this world whether of the east or west.
Kate, early on, was just not energetic enough. I wasn't a big fan (although I appreciated her talent & writing), then I saw her in person at the Kerrville Folk (Songwriters') Festival. Wow! She and Nina Gerber were a phenomenal duo. She was magical in person.
Had the pleasure of seeing her and chatting briefly with her after a set. She was so kind and gracious. Exactly the gentle compassionate soul you would expect from her songs. Her early death was such a tragedy and loss.
You could have lived in California and still missed her. Her life was just much too short.
same here from the midwest
tHIS IS MY MOST FAVORITE VERSION OF THIS SONG ! i ONCE HAd it in my digital files but it's not there...it's here. love and gratitude, to the uploader and the late great Kate Wolf. I would have this in my youtube playlist "Kate Wolf", but I no longer have the DungeonSF keys to that, my original page, though the playlist and uploads still exist.
The version I once had was different than this, if my memory recalls correctly it was a studio she had. I think I found it a long time ago, on Napster.
