Hi, I am Winfred Seong. Also known as Galmetbitbyeol (KOR: 갈맷빛별), which in Korean means "dark green star" (formerly Maplemuffin).
I like to create things! This is my playground; I upload videos on things that I think it's interesting:
- Composing classical music
- Linguistics (Ancient Korean language + Ancient Korean history)
- Vexillology & National Anthems
- Worldbuilding
- Or anything I find interesting
Enjoy your stay!

Old Korean Dialogue (Poems) | 고대한국어로 쓴 현대식 향가 (또는 회화)
[ENG]
Hello hellooo and long time no see. I've been gone for a month due to some heartbreaking stuff going on in my real life. But this video idea seemed good enough so I decided to upload it :)
For English speakers, please turn on the subtitles!
In this video, I wrote some Hyangga poems (ancient Korean poems written in Old Korean language). I read them in both Old and Modern Korean pronunciations. The phonology of Old Korean is actually well-documented in Korean linguistic academia, and I've read quite a lot of research papers in the meanwhile.
Poem titles shown in the order:
1) My Turbulent Mind (맑지 않은 마음) - 0:12
2) The World of Animals - (동물의 세계) - 0:33
3) *To my cat, Kong (콩이에게) - 0:58

Notes on Goguryeo Language No.2 | 고구려어 '약지두치'의 뜻

[ENG] In this video, I restore the Old and Modern Koreanic pronunciation of a Goguryeoic word "Yakjiduchi".

NOTE. This video may come across as very difficult for beginners in Korean language (i.e. I won't sugar coat it; you need to be at beyond native level of Korean to actually understand this video). It's okay if you don't understand it (in that case just watch it for fun :P). [ENG] This video contains my thoughts on the two Goguryeoic words (동음나, 복사매) which I have not investigated before. At the victory square (socialist version)

Do you remember "At the victory square" waltz I composed four years ago? This time, I composed a very "different" version of that. If the old version is for people who advocate democracy, then this version is for those who advocate socialism. The waltz was a soundtrack from my game (which I stopped developing). Whenever I see little red riding hood, I think of her as a socialist. Perhaps this i...

In this video, I try to decipher the meaning of the Old Korean word "구수니자리" (Kusunijari), which was recorded in a Japanese historical text called Nihongi. It was recorded by a Japanese writer during the time when the Kingdom of Silla (an ancient Korean country) was engaging in a battle against Baekje (another ancient Korean country) and Wa (Japan). Nice work, Winfred!
다른 동아시아사 영상에 외국 댓글들 보면 신라가 북방 유목민 흉노족 중 선비족 영향을 많이 받았었고, 당나라가 선비족의 나라라 둘이 연합해서 부여계 국가를 정벌했다는 이야기가 있었는데 은근 설득력 있나 싶음.

I know this video is 4 years old but I am a indie game developer in the development of a story based RPG 2D game based in 3 kingdoms korea (500s-950s AD) I i wanted to use the proto Korean languages for the characters however I cannot find any solid sources to study... would it be possible to have some type of communication?

Nice video about Korean history! I like the art! :)
한국사람인거 같습니다. 14분 30초 근처에서 ' 미치겠다. 정말' 하는데요....
한자는 중국이 아니고 동이족이 만든겁니다. 한국만 동이족은 아닙니다 지금은 다 중국인화되고 한국북한 일본만 남았죠. 한자를 중국에 빌려쓴것이 아닙니다.

You think you'll release a book or ebook of reconstructed old korean in the future?
I thought of that, but I'm focusing more on organizing my thoughts.
As a 1.5 generation Korean, I always wondered about the part I missed in my middle and high school education, where Korean language came from, and how the kingdoms preceding the Goryeo dynasty formed modern day Korean language or identity. I am not good at reading Chinese characters or identifying the Chinese-root words, but your video was very enlightening that the older Korean records in Chinese characters can be in fact transcription of the ancient Korean language written as it sounds. Please keep it up! Salute from Chicago <3

One of the common and important mistakes in linguistics is "Hanja (= Chinese character) was originally from Chinese. The origin of Chinese character is Oracle Bone Script (갑골문), which was created and used one of Korean ancestors ancestors in Sang dynasty in current Chinese land. This means that the current Chinnese land and the relics in that area is not originally from Chinese ownership. Hence, the excavated relics such as Oracle Bone Script on turtle shells, weapons, and parcelains are all from Korean cultures. So, please don't make a mistake that "Hanja" is a Chinese character. Chinese borrowed it without paying any rent for more than 3000 yerars to Korean. Furthermore, they insist that Chinese character is from China and Korean and Japanese adopted it. However, the fact is Chinese borrowed the "Oracle Bone Character 갑골문" longer than 3000 years ago from Korean.
this is ridiculous. if the oracle bone script is "korean", why does it fit so poorly to the korean language? why are the oracle bone scripts grammar resemble nothing like korean SOV word order, and completely lack particles? don't dream up stupid theories
