Skiing in Gotzens with St Saviours School, Poplar, London E14 in 1971
Michael took his camera on the school skiing trip to Gotzens, Austria. His dad, Jim, was headmaster of the school. This film has survived the test of time really well. It was in Michael's 'Playroom' for years then was taken in a box to Ballarat, Australia when Michael emigrated. Annabel had it posted to Melbourne for processing then the digital file was sent to her in Perth WA. She sent it to Pakistan for editing and now it can be shared with all the old boys and girls of St Saviours whom Jim loved so much.

Angela, Terri and Annabel as the Silver Jubilee Queen and princesses.
I really want to send you my heartfelt thanks for publishing these old movies. I was at St Saviours from an infant until departure in 1969. We were the first to 'stay on' for the 5th year and sit CSE's, a first for the school. Your grandad caned me 21 times in the 1st year, I was not a model pupil. I think he was a very tolerant man, who gave me more chances than I obviously deserved... I met him on a bus on East India Dock Road when in my 3rd year as an apprentice. I was shocked to see him, and we had a good conversation. He was openly very pleased to see that I had a profession. I know nothing else of Mr Tellis, not where he lived, his past and nothing of his family life, until your films.. I had and still have, in my 68th year, the greatest respect for the man. Looking back now I know that his job, in our school was definitely not an easy one, a real challenge for anyone. Yet he worked on us to produce results and hopes for a better future, and raised the educational bar massively in this small C of E school, giving the chance for East end kids, with not a lot of much, the opportunity to make something of themselves. Thank you for this insite into his life..
Thank you so much Allen. Those years at St Saviours were the best of his life. He related so many stories about his students to his grandchildren and we loved hearing what you all got up to. He loved the cheeky ways of the East End kids and their resourcefulness. He was a very special man as he always stuck up for the underdog and continued to do voluntary youth work until well into his eighties. He remains as one of the most influential people in my life because of his sense of humour and optimism. I was very lucky to have my grandfather as one of my best friends. With love, Annabel x
