How long is the cable?
"just like that!" thanks man
Worked exactly as described. Cheap fix to a frustrating part of owning my 2007 Sequoia. Thank you guys! Bought some stickers too!
go to your auto parts store and you will find it or a similar one at home depot for 7 bucks.
Great kit and easy install after watching the video! Thank you
got mine yesterday , installed it today w. new oem latch and aftermarket billet alu handle. finally a great way to open the Liftgate from the inside ! WORKS GREAT .......... THANKS
I've taken this actuator in and out 6 times before today and have never had this much problems getting it back in. Used a flathead to pry it into place so the holes line up. This lever just rubs the lip, I've worked it back and forth a few times and it's already all scratched to hell. This will last about 3 months.
@@coreymendes8457 hey, sorry to hear about your installation issues! It should just pop in with some light squeezing the lever in towards the mechanism and getting that lower lip up over the edge. I've had the connectors to the actuator get stuck behind the mechanism before as well that keeps the mechanism from lining up. Please send me an email and I'll happily help with your installation or any other issues that you may have aireddownadventures@gmail.com
This video doesn't help to reinstall actuator. Put it on like video said but will not set right. Cannot get holes to line up to screw on.
just ordered the cable assembly ..... always bugged me that toyota never made a inside release lever
Where can I get that part
Do this mod the FIRST time your latch gives out. I bought a metal replacement and it worked for me about 5 times before getting bent and failing. This was the second time I “fixed” my latch. I made my own release lever using a metal strap that I had laying around. Had to grind the side at one end a little to make it fit into the spot where I ended up bolting it to the mechanism. I had to make some bends in the piece of metal so it could drop down into the opening. Works like a charm!
Works like a charm. Shipped the next day, packaged with a QR code that takes you right to this video. Pretty slick, nice job.
you could have bought it at a auto parts store for about 7 bucks
Love it!!!
$35 IS OUTRAGEOUS
@@RickySanchez. I'm sorry you feel that way. But what you may not know is that's $35 shipped, I cover all the taxes, card/PayPal fees, shipping, shipping materials and everything. All the small things add up. If there are any issues with a product or lost in transit, I will take care of it. Asking anything less, it's just not worth even offering it. It's much harder these days for the smaller guys to sell anything.
I don't know. Seems pretty reasonable to me for the convenience offered.
Make it yourself then. $35 for a plug and play permanent fix to stretched cable/broken handle issue seems worth it to me.
I’m happy to pay it. Seems reasonable to me. He’s already done all the work, research and development. Plus he covers taxes and shipping that can gouge you nowadays. I’ve been living the first gen life for over 20 years now and that hatch is the bane of my existence.
Absolutely especially when you get a lever and a bolt/nut/washer. That's it! Then watch a half ass video to install it. Make the same lever for $6.
I'm not mechanically inclined at all and this took me about 30 mins. Thank you so much! Works perfect!
Just received mine, thank you

WTF?
This is by far the best way to repair the tailgate and a lot cheaper than Toyota products! The Toyota design is GARBAGE! This method bypasses the ridiculous Toyota fix, which breaks in less than a year. Thank you Aireddown Adventures!
Why Toyota just went with this.? It’s the most annoying part of the sequoia (2007) what I have. Thank you very much I’ll tackle this tomorrow.
Hello, just installed mine! The only problem is that it doesn't lock.... it sounds like the it locks when I hit the remote but it opens with the latch.... what might that be? Thanks
why wait to plug in the white plug?
I just ordered. Where do you ship from? Curios if it will be in before I leave town Saturday. Doubtful, but I am willing to pay extra for faster shipping. Thanks.
One the BEST and attention to detail not only the clear communication this guy does with this video is great I was able to not only fix mines but also my buddies too😂
I am a female with fairly small hands, and I’m finding it almost impossible to get in and take the cover off of the latch… the video shows it already taken out. I’m about to throw in the towel trying install this latch
You have to take the latch out of the door and unplug it before you can remove the cover. Then take out the two screws. Then it’s just “regular difficult”. 😉
Thanks for providing a great solution for our trucks! Installed mine today, works awesome.
nice im doing mine this week
You! Are! Amazing! I had replaced that ridiculous cable 4 times in the 8 years I've owned my vehicle. You have no idea how wonderful this is... and SO easy to install. Thank you!!
Just finished, great addition. My rear hatch is loose, like it does click all the way. What would the problem be?
What reverse lights you running?
BUY IT NOW! Received it in the mail yesterday, installed this AM. It's one of those, "should have done this years ago" moments. Best "simple" mod that you can do on your own. Good quality, good video link via QR code, thanks
Thanks for posting this, just ordered your kit. I've seen this process before, but needed to find the release lever you and others have used, plus I wanted to install an interior release just so I had a second way to open the hatch and so that I could access it from inside. I also appreciate the tip on the lock actuator. I wasn't sure how to identify it and your video was the only one that showed this. I tried using the cable release for the interior, but it put too much tension on the actuator for it to engage so it won't lock and I couldn't figure out how to run the cable around the window brackets. Your tip on the slack on the cable is critical. Also the plastic box around the latch mechanism. My actuator still works, but if it fails it will be impossible to get those two little screw out to remove it and access the lock mechanism. Seems I'm systematically removing pieces Toyota installed to protect the internal components (the shroud over the lock mechanism inside the hatch, the cover over the lock mechanism outside and the plastic piece that fits over the window scissors lift for the rear window!). Looking forward to getting your gear and upgrading what I was able to come up with. Like everyone else with this rig, I've taken that darn lift gate off numerous times, replacing the release handle several times. running a cable down and out as a fix and replacing the lock mechanism itself. Thanks again for taking the time to record and post this.
Half way thru this on an 06 sequoia, can’t find the screws on that actuator cover, does anyone know if they all are affixed using screws?
Random question, but do you know what I can put in between the rear window glass to support it. Every time I close the trunk with the window down, the glass shakes inside, and I am worried it will break if I ever hit it too hard
Just put mine on this morning! Works like a dream!!
It works GREAT!
Just got the full combo kit - works great! Just be patient getting the latch mechanism back into the hole. It takes a little finesse to get to the point where you can put the three bolts back in.
want a switch to roll window up/down from overland camp bed. .. great vid
Great Video! You gave me a good idea to bypass the handle for now - plan on ordering the kit soon.

Will that fix work even if the handle is damaged or broken?
Where can i find a latch. Been looking for
That's interesting it used to be pinned at the top of the comments and description. Here is the link with all the info. Please let me know if you have any questions. aireddownadventures.myshopify.com/products/1st-gen-sequoia-rear-hatch-combo-kit
I just got done doing the handle bypass. The first time I pinched the cable loop on the lever screw area. My door just wouldn’t open. After a few hundred attempts I was able to open the door and fix the issue. Pretty cool, now my door opens and closed easily. Thanks for sharing 🙏.
Where can I order the kit ?
Does anyone else’s hatch jiggle quite a bit once closed? Mine will remain lock/unlocked when I tell it to. I just don’t remember there being so much play when closed
Does the handle bypass the lock? I guess it’s hidden…
Yep, as long as the lock actuator is still working properly, it will still lock and unlock
@@aireddownadventures8173ok thanks. I just did the install and it’s not locking for me. I wonder if I left enough slack in the cable?
@garrettwashington9584 There should be a little bit of slack on the cable where it mounts to the mechanism, but even if it's a little tight, the actuator should still move into the locked position(going back up to unlocked posting is the tricky one getting past the notch when the arm isn't fully springing back). I think the lock actuator isn't working properly. Do you hear or feel the lock actuator down at the latch mechanism operating when locking/unlocking?
I replaced the actuator assembly too and I can hear the locking mechanism when I lock the rest of the car. I’m stumped!
Update. You were correct. I cleaned the everloving mess out of my OEM actuator, and sprayed a light coating of rust reform over the metal clasp, reinstalled it and everything worked as it should. Thanks for the response to your product, its a great invention!@@aireddownadventures8173
Can’t wait for mine to get here :)
Just ordered the handle even though I haven’t had any problems yet with the stock handle and 270,000 miles. Despite the luck I still felt this was a GREAT idea/solution to a likely issue. Looking forward to installing :)
Where do I order this handle sir ??
What side is the clip on the black plug in actuator? I can’t get the damn thing disconnected 3:50
The clip should face inward. When you press the clip, push the connector in and out while pressing the clip, and it will free it up
