    This is probably a dumb question, but could you cut (big) knots off of the back and use a small paint brush to LIGHTLY coat that area with something that would keep the thread from coming loose and undone on the front? And hopefully what you brush on would not saturate to the front and show if done lightly enough.

    • @HayleyRoxannaCrafts
      @HayleyRoxannaCrafts Месяц назад

      It’s not something I would recommend as I’d worry about it showing through and how it might affect the thread & fabric over time.

    I NEVER use a pen or a colored marker on my pattern. What happens if you accidentally place your piece you are stitching on on the top of that paper. Ink dies not dry super fast!! And you could ruin your piece. Markers are dangerous also. I only use pencil. I usually send my finished pieces to the dry cleaners when I’m finished. Pencil is no problem for them to get out. Also keep your hands really clean. NEVER use lotion of any kind on your hands. It will seep out of your pores. And many times even the cleaners cannot get it out!!

    • @HayleyRoxannaCrafts
      @HayleyRoxannaCrafts 3 месяца назад

      Good points. If I’m marking a paper pattern I often use pencil in case I make a mistake and need to erase it, but I prefer having the pattern on my iPad for marking so no danger of any ink or pencil marks on my work.

    The 14 count Aida black fabric I bought feels very stiff and hard is this normal. Margaret

    • @HayleyRoxannaCrafts
      @HayleyRoxannaCrafts 7 месяцев назад

      Stiffness of fabric can vary depending on the brand. However, I haven’t found the black Aida any different in stiffness to the white when buying brands I normally use. You could try washing the fabric before using it, but this may make it too soft for you. It is also possible that it will loosen up as you stitch on it.

    This was very helpful albeit I cannot use this method on my iPad. When you try to save your chart as a PDF Adobe Acrobat requires you to buy the subscription which is $69 a year. You can mark off using a finger instead, although it may be trickier to mark off accurately. However, I believe there are alternative stylus to the official Apple Pencil that could be used (I’ve just never used them myself). 😃

    the 0.00 for some of the backstitching is wierd. You oviously need some thread or it won't be on the chart/list but why put 0.00?

    • @HayleyRoxannaCrafts
      @HayleyRoxannaCrafts 11 месяцев назад

      Well spotted. The amounts are estimated by the computer program I use to create charts and I guess as it’s such a small amount of those colours used it wasn’t enough to register a value when rounded to 2 decimal places. It’s something I need to be aware of when creating charts, so thank you for pointing that out. 😊

      I know some cross stitchers who get really worried about the back of their work, which is who the video is aimed at. How neat you want the back to be is down to personal preference, but, like I say in the video, for me, as long as it doesn’t impact the front of the finished work then it’s fine.

      Thank you for your comment. The knots I make tend to be quite small and I try to get them between holes. Occasionally, the odd one can get slightly in the way, but changing the angle I put the needle through tends to solve it. It certainly doesn’t bother me enough to go without the extra security of the knot, but it‘s why I show more than one way so people can try the various ways out to see what works best for them. 😊

    Ok. So On a 28, 32 or higher number of Aidas we will use a smaller needle. I wonder if It's not hard to see the holes. LOL! Also, if there is an specific Aida to make, let's say a cushion. I want to make small gifts for Christmas and I thought on small decorative items like cushions. I just started with a Dimensions kit from a big box store as my first project and I found the Aida is a kind of coarse, hard? (English is not my first language so I don't know how to describe it).

      It can be hard to see holes on higher count Aida, but a good light helps. I use 14 or 16 count Aida when making cushions and then use cotton fabric to make the back. In my Hayley-Roxanna Designs Etsy shop I have patterns and instructions for making Christmas hanging decorations, which are small cushions with a ribbon attached to hang them up by (www.etsy.com/uk/shop/HayleyRoxannaDesigns). You could also look at using Evenweave fabric for making cushions too. To make a picture the same size as on 14 count Aida you would use 28 count evenweave and stitch over 2 (in my cross stitch playlist there is a video on stitching on Evenweave - ruclips.net/video/q0dVUKT_rdg/видео.html). Hope some of that information helps. 😊
