Backpacking the Backcountry of Yosemite Day 1
On our first day we backpacked from Tuolumne Meadows to our High Sierra Camp, Gel Aulin. Our trek took us through fields of gold, into lush green forests, along a flowing river with reflecting ponds, across granite, experiencing cascading falls and finally to our camp at the gateway to the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne.

Which cat is that?
Thanks for the question. It's a Lindenberg 65. There was only one made. The idea was to put the design into production, but they never got to that point. If you are interested there are many more video regarding our Trans-Atlantic Passage, but more the whole enchilada you can go to my ‘Pursuing Balance Through Adventure’ Sailing Blog: pursuingbalancethruadventuresailing.wordpress.com/2024/01/19/trans-atlantic-crossing-on-a-small-catamaran/
Lovely hike man, panoramic views are epic! Absolutely stunning scenery
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. It was simply stunning awesome place.
Been looking for one of these for years.
They are pretty cool.
Lots of good video and great background music
@@lorenwebb Thanks for the comment! Fun times to be sure!
Lovely scenery man, trail looks amazing!
Yes, and after a few weeks of hot weather it was nice to have some marine layer to keep it cool. Thanks for the comment!
Great photography and I like your choice of music.
I appreciate your kind words. It was a wonderful place, but of course… it’s the Garden of Eden.
That is quite a hike. Glad you made it to the top. You must be ready for Mt. Whitney now.
Well, I have done Mt Langley, the sister to Mt Whitney. It isn’t quite as tall as Whitney but some think it is tougher due to the terrain. I would like to do Whitney, but Langley was really hard on me so IDK. centralcahikingpursuingbalancethruadventure.wordpress.com/2020/10/03/up-in-smoke/
Glad to see you getting out there even in tough conditions! The 4Runner looks good with all that mud. :)
@@OutdoorExistential Gee Thanks, well I had to give it a try, luckily I learned that I better exit before I got in over my head lol.
“Hey, look at me!”
Love it. I do not think we will be taking the Rav TRD on that road, but the FJ TRD no problem. Good tunes.
@@The440cuda Most of the adventure was pretty uneventful as far as difficulty. There were several that got our attention to be sure. Rock, dirt whoopty doos, and soft sand but mostly scenic desert and paths that would be fine for any 4x4.
Like Tatooians racing with wind.
@JP-fw5jd what is a tatooian?
EPIC and beautiful! 🤩
Thanks, it was indeed epic. A very special place and I caught in all of its glory.
the jeeps were simply made for this terrain, it's why they exist in this configuration - rock trail go-carts (especially the wanglers)
Well the Jeeps powered through it all. My 4Runner one of them exclaimed they were surprised him how well it did.
Why the stupid music? Cant stay, bye
Bc the sun kept shining, I mean it was the desert. Would do you suggest?
31 what? Km/h, mph, kts?
Knots
Scary cabin - no way I'd stay there 😮
I tried hard in my video to convey the cabin as a place of mystery and suspense, but with the low light and dancing firelight from the firepit it came off more as pleasant and relaxing lol
@@pursuingbalancethruadventure I thought it was creepy! I've watched too many horror movies about camping adventures, lol!
I would have let out a Tarzan yell before jumping.
If not in the air then certainly when you hit that always frigid water!
@@pursuingbalancethruadventure LOL
I have lots of good memories of Anza Borego. I have hiked and camped there. It is interesting and unique. Thanks for sharing your trip.
I love that place. That is the reason that I bought the 4Runner TRD Pro to go to Anza-Borrego.
I apologize that the video is not better so that you could enjoy this more. I assure you this is not the quality I sent to RUclips.
Just went to Badwater on Saturday, March 30. It was raining hard. And yes, Manly Lake is still there! 🎉
Well, if it was raining hard again in Death Valley that should add another month.
It has been awhile since I’ve seen a video on this subject. I think it’s been at least 12 years. 🌊👍⛵️👍🌊
It seems after all these years people still are still interested in going fast under sail. Trifoiler was on the leading edge of what now is fairly common place as far as foiling boards, and more and more competitive sailboats.
@@pursuingbalancethruadventure yeah Hydro foiling sailboat like the moth have always been intriguing. What really blew me away was the foiling windsurfers and the kite foiling.
I was with my friends, the two engineers that developed Trifoiler, you might have seen that we sailed a ‘Trans-Atlantic Crossing on a Small Catamaran’, and they tried to teach me to Wing Foil-board. I got so I could sail it but once it started to lift up on the foil I quickly went off, lol.
@@pursuingbalancethruadventure I remember that wire across the trioilers sails would whistle when the wind really got blowing.
Is there enough water to kayak there? I heard boating was no longer allowed but it looks like there’s sufficient amount of water. ??
Hey Mike- Thanks for the question. Keep in mind that it is dissipating fast. I read that they expect it to be there into this next month. There certainly is enough water to float a kayak, but paddling would most likely be hitting bottom. Like you said they closed it to kayaking but that certainly would have been fun. Just so you know you can find more info on my blog: nationalparkshiking2pursuingbalancethruadventure.wordpress.com/2024/03/25/death-valleys-manly-lake/
Hi from Rodney bay's
Did you finish your thought? Anyway, hi back, lol.
Beautiful scenery and good job of capturing the sights on video. Do you use a cell phone to film? I never see you use a camera?
Thank you so much glad that you enjoyed it. Yes I take all of my pictures and video with my iPhone pro Max. That was a fun hike through the steps of history.
Nice video composure, and the subject is rad. Can you show me how to do that?
Hey thanks a lot! I appreciate that compliment, but I have to say I am disappointed in the way that RUclips is displaying it with very poor resolution.
Heh, not small at lol
Thanks for checking in Lain! It felt small with large confused seas that sounded like a cannon going off when it slammed into the underneath of the main cabin then tapered off like the rumble of thunder, with food flying out of the freezer, and cups of water jumping a foot off of the table into you lap, (glad that wasn’t coffee lol!) and 35 knots of wind, I will tell you that lol!
In that last shot, is the gyb attached to a stantion or hard point on the starboard hull?
Thanks for the question. On the broad reaching that we were doing across the Atlantic we were quite happy with our reacher being shackled to the hull, that is until we had to gybe in the middle of the night and climb out on the hull that was pitching in the dark. I don't know if you have been following the blog posts each day that btw each one links to the other, but read what Greg said about some of those sail changes. pursuingbalancethruadventuresailing.wordpress.com/2024/02/18/trans-atlantic-crossing-on-a-small-catamaran-day-29/
Continue to enjoy . Nice footage
Richard, thanks so much for taking a moment to leave a note! Appreciate it.
CONGRATULATIONS 👏🎉 WOOHOO the epic adventure completed🙌❤️
We did it! Like Greg said not many people can say they had a Trans-Atlantic Crossing in a Small Catamaran.
@@pursuingbalancethruadventure Most definitely 👏🎉🤩
Thats a small cat?????
he is not small
Hey guys thanks for checking in! Appreciate your comments. People listen to me when I tell you, in the middle of the frick’n ocean with seas over 11’ and winds North of 30 knots. It feels pretty small. On the other hand, last night on my watch with big seas, shifty and puffy conditions on a beam reach, the fastest point of sail, in the dark where you can’t see squat, hunkered over a monitor seated in the captain’s chair in the main cabin, I was away from the sheets. To dump the main and the jib in a squall or any emergency situation I would have to run outside. All I had was a button to veer our course up or down and believe me it doesn’t turn on a dime. So everything pretty much has to be planned in advance. Also keep in mind a monohull can take a complete knock down, heck it could even be rolled by a rouge wave and the heavy keel is going to right it, but a catamaran like this… It’s not coming back if disaster should strike. It’s game over and people are likely going to die. So in that case. It felt too big. I would rather be on my Hobie Cat. You just take out the righting line and lean out. No problem.
Are you tired of sailing yet?
Haha nope still love it, but it will be nice to step off onto something that is not sway to and fro, lol!
Way to go. Good job of filming, music, and posting again. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks again for all of your support! We are closing in on our destiny.
Good job. I really like your style of posting about this adventure. It's very entertaining.
Well I certainly appreciate that.
A belated Happy Valentine's Day to you.
Thank you so much! Same to you!
Tough day 😂
No bad uh?
Thank you very much. I try to have it match our circumstances.
Good video and I liked the music to go with it.
Excellent that you have company out there🙌 Good job Swabby❤️
Well, now that 36’ monohull ‘Dream Reacher’ is far behind, and our companion took a different strategy of searching our wind route and is 60 miles to our North. So we are basically on our own.
Food is a big part of this adventure 😂
I just love it!
The dolphins are alway the highlight of the day.
I remember seeing one of these in the harbor side of Cabrillo Beach in the mid or late 80's. I used to windsurf on the ocean side of Cabrillo beach. That thing was fast and could turn on a dime. Never did see one in the ocean. But was it ever fast. I wonder how it would go with modern sails.
I just happen to be on board the boat belonging to the Tri-Foiler designers ‘Force’. We are making a Trans-Atlantic Crossing on a Small Cat. pursuingbalancethruadventuresailing.wordpress.com/2024/01/19/trans-atlantic-crossing-on-a-small-catamaran/

Great video and I loved the music also. It is so appropriate for what you are doing.
Thank you very much. I try.
Woohoo! Bon Voyage
And so it begins...

The dolphins ❤
They were so fun!
Small cat? Lol
Yeah, I was imagining a Prout Scirocco, Heavenly Twins, or maybe an Iroquois. Really small would be a Hobiecat.
True enough, but my thought is when you get out in the middle of the frick’n ocean with big waves and big wind, of which we got a taste of with winds reaching 35 knots, waves that hit the bottom of the cabin so hard it sounded like an explosion and then rumbled like thunder! It doesn’t seem so big then.
@pursuingbalancethruadventure True, I think any vessel can seem small when faced with the relentless force of the oceans.
So happy to travel along with you❤❤❤
Welcome aboard ‘Force’ High Performance Cruising Catamaran. We can all be ‘Pershing Balance Through Adventure’ together!
Thank you for posting this- I’ve made several hikes to Brown Mountain Dam, but am thinking of hiking the Gabrielino trail past there to see Oakwilde, just for grins and giggles. If your video is recent, it looks a little overgrown, but otherwise ok. The water levels are slightly higher than they were a month ago, but still completely passable.
We hiked the trail in Nov. Here is more info on the hike: losangelescountyhikingpursuingbalancethruadventure2.wordpress.com/2023/11/12/gabrielino-trail-to-oak-wilde-camp/
