I've been trout fishing rivers/streams since 1965 and 98% of my trout have been caught on the Mepps inline spinners, I always practice catch & release of all the trout too. The only ones kept are those that have taken the lure deep and bleeding from the gills & that's only three or four trout per season. My average catch per season is 500-600 trout, my best ever trout season was back in 2009-10 Season, ** River Trips: 126.. Total Fish caught: 1167 brown trout. 89 rainbow trout. To me, there's nothing better than fishing the rivers/streams for trout, from time to time I also use small hard body lures as well. I have also been the Angling Club Champion for most trout caught in Rivers & streams for the past 18 years,, 2006 - 2024.

Trout very scarce in Meander River.
I took a gamble and headed back to the Meander River in the hope of catching & releasing a few wild brown trout. It didn't turn out as I had hoped, thankfully a few trout did raise my spirits a little bit. Thanks for watching & stay safe on/in the water. cheers Adrian (meppstas)

A few fastwater trout show up.

This trip was from a couple of days ago when I decided it was time to do some fast water fishing for trout. The trout have been very scarce in the rivers due to the large influx of cormorants that have hit the rivers here in Tasmania. Thankfully on this trip I did manage to catch & release of few trout. Thanks for watching & stay safe on/in the water. Cheers Adrian (meppstas) #mepps #tackletact...

This trip was a couple of weeks ago when I had an early start in the Meander River. The spin session started of okay but the trout were few & far between, it was good to finally catch a few trout in the river after a couple of dead trips here. Thanks for watching & stay safe on/in the water. Cheers Adrian (meppstas) #mepps #tackletactics #meppsaglia #meppsbug

This trip was one of my better ones for this season, even though the trout were mainly small fish it was still good to catch & release ten fish. It was also good to see the trout were starting to show up again after the large influx of Cormorants that have been in the rivers in big numbers since early January 2024. Nice day for it, great water and nice spots to fish today Adrian, enjoyed the day a few nice one eventually in the net too mater.Enjoyed the trip with you, thanks, thumbs up too,,, Tony.
Hi Tony, it was a good for being in a river, sadly the trout are very few and far between in our rivers nowadays, it was good to catch & release a couple of fish, It's very sad to see how poor the trout stocks are in the rivers/streams here in Tasmania and there's nothing being done about it. Thanks for dropping by mate, stay safe & good health to you..👍👍 Cheers Adrian (meppstas)
Thanks for the video Adrian.
Hi Dan, thank you for watching it even though there wasn't all that much action to be had, the musical photo slideshow at the end was probably the best part. 😉😉 cheers Adrian (meppstas)
came back to latrobe from usa mod dec to 1.1, fished 6 days - the quality of fishing has diminished so much in the rivers - terrible.
Yes, the trout fishing in our rivers is very poor and it will take quite some time for them to recover which is a shame. The Inland Fisheries here in Tasmania don't believe in restocking rivers, they believe in self recruitment which is a joke when the majority of trout have been cleaned out by the Cormorants. This time last trout season (2023/24) I had made 44 trips to the rivers/streams for a total of 282 trout being caught & released, so far this season I have only made 16 trips for a total of 24 trout being caught with one having to be kept due to gill damage. I haven't bothered to push myself this season due to the fact that the rivers/streams are not worth fishing at this stage & I can't see it getting any better for some time. Cheers Adrian (meppstas)
Do you use an anti kink?
Love your channel Adrian👍am a happy subscriber. Can you tell me what swivel clips you use on your Mepps spinners?
Hi Andrew & thank you for your positive comments mate, it's very much appreciated as always. Those small swivels a are a size 10 spiral swivel & as for your question below, yes I do use an anti-kink set up when using the inline spinners, mainly because I use a thin 4 lb Platypus Mono-filament line. check the following it has a photo of my anti-kink setup..👍👍 cheers Adrian..(meppstas) www.tackletactics.com.au/blogs/learn-to-fish/adrians-trout-fishing-kit-more

Good day Adrian, awesome water, great spot and a few nice Trout in the net too.Great fishing adventure today, enjoy the trip with you mate, thanks, thumbs up and greetings, Tony.
Hi Tony, it's one of my favourite waters that I like to fish, nothing better than chasing trout in the fast waters, can be tough on the body but well worth the effort most times. Thankfully this trip I did manage to catch a few trout, better still I didn't see and Cormorants in the river this trip. Thanks for dropping by Tony, have a Merry Christmas & a safe. healthy New Year mate.👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)
nice few fish landed on that trip mate and the river lookin 🔥🔥 merry christmas to ya adrian 👍👍
Thanks for tuning in as always, yes finally the fastwaters gave up a few trout which was good to see, the river was at a good wading height too, still tough but a good time was had fishing it as always. Nice new gear and a lour too and what a beautiful day to be out and fish Adrian and land a few nice ones too mate, love the water you fishing in, enjoyed the trip with you, thanks, thumbs up with greetings, Tony.
Hi Tony, the new gear was great, a nice lightweight setup that one can use all day without making the arms & shoulders tired when casting and retrieving lures. As for the fishing it was a good spin session, much better than I had expected it to be after the landowner told me that a friend of his didn't catch any trout there a few days earlier. It's a lovely area to fish mate, very peaceful that's for sure. Appreciate your visit & comments as always Tony.. Look after yourself mate & stay in good health..👍👍 cheers Adrian

lovely fish mate, i get sea run browns almost as silver, great work as always 👍👍🎣
Thanks you, yes it surprised me that it was light in colour with quite a lot of silver as well, normally the browns that I catch in the rivers here are darker in colour & have many red dots on the body..I'll be putting the full video of the days spin session on here in a days or two.. Thanks for watching, it's very much appreciated..👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)

Good day Adrian, great video and well said about to know the river before you fish it and falling in river happens a number of times to all, i fell in a creek that we have fished over 45 years in June, not deer but it was miners two degrees and James gave me a hand and got me out and we always keep spare clothing and towels in the truck just fo that.Great video, thumbs up and greetings,, Tony.
Hi Tony, thanks mate and as you & James well know river fishing isn't always easy and can be very challenging at times, yes spare clothes & towels are a must to have in the vehicle. I felt this short video was worth putting online.. Thanks for the positive feedback as always Tony, take care and stay in good health..👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)
salam kenal sahabat🙏
The Leven was on my list for the upcoming trip so it's good to see it.
It's a good river, reasonable easy to wade, can be a little slippery underfoot in certain areas, it like most rivers/streams here in Tassie has been hit big time by the Shags that have really cleaned out a lot of trout which is a shame.. cheers Adrian
Good day Adrian, no fish for a couple of hours and driving 60 Km but a few fish were landed at the end, i say all worth the trip, enjoyed the video mate, thanks, thumbs up too, tight lines and greetings.
Hi Tony, yes it was a quiet start before I managed to get onto a few trout, as you know that's trout fishing isn't it. Take the good with the bad that's just the way it goes with river fishing, even if the fish are few and far between is always nice to be out and about in beautiful scenic countryside that's for sure. Thanks for dropping by mate, always good to hear from you, stay safe and take care when fishing those beautiful rivers/lakes there in Kiwi Land..👍👍 cheers Adrian
excellent work mate, early season in high water can be hard fishin at times but you got rewarded for your effort, can you guys get the mepps XD over there, i find them useful for gettin down in the big flows
Thanks for that, you're right in saying that ear;y season in high water can be hard fishing & it surely is, the conditions on this trip was ideal which helped a lot. As for the Mepps XD spinners, no they are not available here in the tackle stores, can be bought online form overseas. I have a few of the small #00 XD spinners that I received from France. I have yet to use them as I have had so much success with various models of the following Mepps spinners such as the Aglia's (Furia, Fluo brown, rainbow & tiger models, e-Brite, Mouche Noires, TW & TW Streamer, ), Black Fury's (gold, copper & black blades), Bugs (White Miller, Stonefly & March Brown). Sizes from #00 (1.5 grams) to #2 (4.5 grams). Thanks for tuning in again as well.👍👍. cheers Adrian (meppstas)

i know its rarely the best conditions but theres some magic about catchin trout early with the mists liftin off the water, river looks amazin mate, tight lines from northern ireland 👍👍🎣
Yes, the conditions weren't good and you are correct is saying there's something magical catching a trout in the mist that's for sure. The river is one of my favourite waters to fish, so peaceful being in it. Good to hear from you all the way from Northern Island too, I appreciate your positive comments, I gather your now moving into the colder weather now with it being mid Autumn there in Northern Ireland. 👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)

Nice footage and fishing Adrian :) It's so great to see a local, fishing in the wonderful streams and in my home of Tassie , it make me a little bit homesick too :( All the best!

Hi Tony, spot on mate, always good to be in a river fishing for trout well away from the hustle & bustle of busy roads & towns that's for sure, give me the country areas all the time. Thanks for dropping by Tony, always good to hear from you.. Take care & look after yourself mate..👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)
That looks like a great spot!
Hi Allan, it is normally a good stretch of water that gives up a few trout, but the fishing conditions weren't ideal on this trip & the fishing can run a little hot & cold from time to time. But that's just trout fishing isn't it.. 👍👍 cheers Adrian (meppstas)
Hope it warms up in a few weeks for both of us :). Also I reckon I went 'swimming' where you started, not super slippery but lodged my foot between rocks and then stepped before I realised it.
I've taken the odd swim in this area as well, it should start to warm up in a few weeks time hopefully.. cheers Adrian (meppstas)
Nice to see things have settled down after the heavy weather you copped.
Hi soobz, it was good to finally hit the water again, trouble is the weather returned two days later.. This is typical September weather here in Tassie, but this year it seems much worse than previous years. Thanks for tuning in mate.👍👍.cheers Adrian
Здравствуйте, очень красивая рыба! Сколько грамм приманка? Как она себя ведёт на быстром течении? Сильно сопротивляется?
The Mepps #1 March Brown Bug spinner weighed 1.5 grams, the lure has a wide blade & works well in slow, medium & fast flowing waters, the trout always fight very hard in the fast waters and do resist quite hard. The trout always out up a good fight and when using a thin clear 4 pound mono-filament line one just has to take time to land the trout. Thank you for watching the video, it is very much appreciated.. Cheers Adrian (meppstas)

Hi & thank you for your positive feedback, it's very much appreciated by me. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video and yes, it is very relaxing being in a small stream or a river in what are beautiful surrounds. I love my trout fishing and catching a trout in peaceful tranquil waters is always a bonus and it's always nice to see a trout go back in the water, another bonus is seeing Platypus in the small rivers & streams, they're a real highlight of any trip I take. I do these videos (such as they are) to share with the public to show them the beautiful surrounds we have and make the most of it while one can, I'm getting close to 79 years of age now so hopefully I'll get a few more years of doing what I love. Hi Adrian, i always seem to have better luck on the gold with blue dots mepps comet, i find the comet has better action in the water than the aglia
Hi Jack, yes I have a few of the small #00 Comet spinners that I in the small streams from time to time, the Aglia blade works well (as do the Bug spinners) for me when fishing the fast flowing runs due to the larger blade rotating at a wider angle than the narrow Comet & Black Fury blades. Like I say to a lot of spin fishers here in Tassie, stick with what you catch fish on & are happy with, at times I have to regularly chop & change lures when the the trout are fussy. Eventually one lure will get them on the take, many times during a spin session trout will take one the lure. Tight lines Jack, Cheers Adrian (meppstas)
