Not close to you or you WOULD be our vet. But your podcast is great. No complaints from us. Sounds like you just got one of those perpetually miserable people as a customer. You obviously know who they are and you should just apologize for how they feel and refer them to another vet. Tell them you won’t be treating their family anymore.

IC is awful in humans. I am so blessed my gyno recognized the early symptoms and educated me to stop drinking Mountain Dew and prescribed medication to relieve my symptoms. 🐱 is blessed to have you advocating for what it can’t tell its humans. ❤

You may not want to be based on volume, but you should support the need for high-quality, low cost population control among all pets by learning and using the high-volume techniques which make the spay-neuter surgeries so much faster and cost-effective AND by removing any profit from your spay-neuter surgeries. It's not an all-or-nothing proposition. So many people don't spay or neuter their pets because private vets like you quote such high prices for sterilization. Litter after litter, after behavioral problems follow, and typically end in a shelter. Please find a better way! Not to compete with nonprofit, high volume clinic prices, but to offer more affordable spay-neuter services to more of your clients. Or, volunteer one day a month at a low-cost clinic. Vets who don't help reduce the overpopulation of companion animals are..... (you fill in the ending).

Currently obtaining my bachelors in pre-veterinary medicine as ASU. I'm taking it online and feel stuck on what I can do to actually get hands on experience or even jobs. I'm active duty currently but plan to get out just don't know how to get my foot in the door in the veterinary field. Any recommendations or tips?

I love how you immediately jump to how "divisive" that this particular trend addition from tik tok is when it's about childfree women. And the tech and vet ones weren't? I agree, I dislike this trend a lot and spoke about it on the post. However, the way you flippantly say that choosing to be childfree by choice is "totally fair, totally valid" is not really supporting that choice. You are correct. It's targeted towards Vet Med Parents because many do not talk to managers or practice owners about this issues. They put their kids first always before the team. Your practice is a rarity. Why should the childfree parents have to always reach out to talk to someone? As your husband said- parents often have blinders on, especially at work. Why are the parents in Vet Med reaching out to talk to the childfree people? Like when there are staff events- they are usually always geared towards the people who have kids. Why should the childfree women consider not working there if the schedule doesn't work for them- why not ask the parents, who are always changing the schedule for their kids to go find another clinic that kowtows to them? And really, it's not okay to equate the issues childfree women have to mental health, or the elderly- that's diluting the actual issue. Poor mental health is not a choice. Being old is not a choice. Being childfree can/ is a choice that too often is not respected and too many times those workers are taken advantage of. You might not like the spirit in which is was presented, but the facts in those situations are correct.

But I didn't choose to have a pet... Having this pet changed my whole life!!! My boyfriend at the time dumped the dog on me, and I don't believe in dumping a dog at the humane society because of what my boyfriend did... I'm a big believer in pets are family, but it's unfair for you to automatically assume that everyone has an awesome income... I live on fixed income... Those that partake of the discounts in vet services appreciate you making said services available... I chose to guilt my ex into giving me doggy support, so that I could take care of the dog better... Now I've had dog for 6yrs, but what if the ex stops sending funds? I'm gonna need that help!!!

I don’t remember what this method is actually called but it usually helps me fall asleep in 5-10 minutes! You say random words to yourself in your head. I find for me it works best with 1 syllable words, and when the words rhyme. I usually just start with a short word such as “bat” and then change the first letter by going through alphabetically! I hope this helps :)

As a parent and LVT(24+yrs!) working with younger, childless by choice LVT's, I will say that we balance things out. They'll take time off for their pet's appointments like I do for my kids'. They've called in when pets were sick, or after a pet's death/euthanasia. I've called in for sick kids/snow days. I hate to sound cliche, but it is all about being a team. I'm on vacation, they cover my work. One of them is out, we cover. Our supervisor as well as our 'boss' are both very firmly in the 'work-life balance' camp as well, so that helps. Its definitely not a competition here to see who takes the fewest days off. We're not in a private practice setting, so that may affect how we handle things.

A cat rescue advised me not to jump in and do a list of all recommended tests and imaging all at one time ,when a long haired cat I had just adopted from them wasn’t going poo. They did a smart thing. They said ask the Vet what one single to start with. And do things one at a time. Unless of course the pet is obviously suffering or it’s an emergency situation. They took the kitty back and started her on a hairball remedy, over the counter stuff. And she was given fluids maybe an IV. But in the end she didn’t didn’t need all the things on the Vet list. I’m not saying the Vet did anything wrong they of course made a plan and at least made me aware of what might have to be done. Always go to a Vet, for instance sure I could have given her the hairball meds myself but not the IV fluids ! I guess I’m saying in some cases you can slow down the treatments and try them one at a time unless the Vet says no this is an emergency.

When I first started as a tech I always found it odd we did nail trims, baths, and simple grooms when groomers existed. Why would you pay us to do something we aren’t as good at and will take away from yours and other pets care? I was happy when our office became too busy to do non medical baths and grooms but we never stopped doing nail trims. Would have saved me a lot of bruises, scratches, and bites over the years and allowed for better patient care in my opinion.

I personally loved the part where he tried to tell the technicians that it wasn’t us he had issue with since we are underpaid while also saying we charge to much. Like how am I going to get paid a fair wage if we aren’t making a profit anymore? I also feel bad for his friends that are vets who gave him the numbers we get charged for bloodwork and what we charge. I would be so embarrassed and mad at him for using me for his rant instead of trying to understand.

Agree to a point. As a mental health professional I can say that a large percentage of individuals are getting pets, claiming they are emotional support pets and turn around and refuse to care for them. I’ve had clients who allow cat litter to sit for weeks on end without removing anything. Others claim they can’t afford cat or dog food but they have a fresh set of nails on that cost them $80 or new tires that cost $1500. Just because you can have a pet, doesn’t mean you should.
