"Little Men" TRAILER (2016) MICHAEL BARBIERI, THEO TAPLITZ
@tederbate - Two disparate teenage boys (apart from a love of video games) become friends after one of them moves into the Brooklyn district of New York. Unfortunately for the pair, Tony (Michael Barbieri) and Jake (Theo Taplitz), the economic situation of their parents' lives intrudes, leading to tensions all round.
There is also a subtle tension in the relationship of the teenagers, a perceived emotional attachment by one on the other, although never manifested as openly seen here - ruclips.net/video/RPzuz7Qih1s/видео.html. Tony is extrovert, he has an inherited love of football (the real game) from his Latino background, and is strongly attracted to girls; he also has an ambition to bec...

The Boy Waif ("Ain't Got No Home")(Boys Will Be Boys)(Brief Encounters)
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.8 месяцев назад
@Ted-Says - Poor Billy, unloved, unwanted and hungry, wandering the streets of London in search of a better life. Things gets even worse when he's caught stealing apples from a costermonger's barrow (look 'em up!), but from nowhere a knight in shining armour (figuratively, of course) comes to the boy's rescue, even duelling with the belligerent costermonger (there, I've said it again). The odd ...
"Chips, Glorious Chips" McCain's UK (French Fries) Television Commercial (2006)

@Ted-Says - This has the look of a big budget commercial for McCain's chips (French fries) which was launched on UK television in September 2006. In reality, special effects were used to turn a small group of dancers into the full ensemble seen here. Many of you will recognise the tune as "Food, Glorious Food" from Lionel Bart's musical, "Oliver!". Bart died in 1999, and long before that had so...

@tederbate - This is from a sumptuous but often overlooked television version of Mark Twain's "The Prince And Pauper", all the better for being a British production and full of English actors. Philip Sarson plays both the Prince (later King Edward VI) and the pauper, Tom Canty, while Max Johnson appears as a personal attendant, Humphrey Marlow. In the excerpt here, Edward (or rather Tom Canty m...

Hugh Pollard plays Hansel - fans of the 1980s British TV series, "Simon And The Witch", will recognise him as Simon. Nicola Stapleton ...
When A Boy Answers The Telephone (Boys Will Be Boys)

@tederbate - The boy is obviously bemused, then amused, when he answers the telephone and finds his dad's irate boss on the other end of the line. Yes, it is creaky, and all slightly odd. It’s such a catchy rhythm! Well, now I need to listen to the music from the one-man-band that also played in that movie which has also been stuck in my head ever since!

@OneOfManyOfOne - I'm glad you like it, it's a great tune and an entertaining movie overall. I am not aware of other artists recording the song, but Rufus certainly kept playing it during his early music career - there is a slow, bluesy version on the follow-up film to this, for instance, and there is a 'live" version you can find elsewhere, but the original is the best as far as I am concerned.

Sad to see the "final upload" declaration but glad Ted Says is going out with the type of movie that keeps me coming back for more. In short, "both are believable characters, made more so by their "standard" teenage boy looks and behaviour, not some Hollywood plastic concoction" is an essential quality for me. I enjoyed this movie years back (in a Brooklyn indie movie theatre of course) so am glad to be reminded of it. I'll miss you uniquely styled clips though.

Philip does a decent portrayal here. Also, thanks for the info regarding Maximilian Johnson's parentage. Though I live on the opposite side of the Atlantic, I was initially a fan of half-brother Boris,' before his fall. I was actually visiting Hull, E. Yorkshire for a month, when he was installed. Like him or not, the ones who immediately preceded him, the ones who COULD have come after him, and the one who subsequently did, are, shall we say, unappealing to me. Amended, as instructed. Being lorded over by the current 'leader,' whose brain has been reduced to watery porridge, whose hands he can't seem to keep to himself, and whose administration rivals the cast of a bad Pasolini film, I can attest that I know all about the perils (and embarrassment) of ineffectual leadership. I'd take Boris on his worst day, over this wretchedly ancient reprobate. Soon, this vale of tears (formerly the US) will fall, and soon I'll be happily dead, so I won't care. In the meantime, I do derive most of my pleasure from my interest in older films and television shows. NOTHING from modern Hollywood passes these corneas, however. @@tederbate

Something always happens with your vids; I go down rabbitholes. After first listening to 'All the Young Dudes' and 'Sweet Jane' - both of which I loved listening to from a housemate's Mott the Hoople album when I was in college - I read that young Singer played Tobias in a 1936 telling of the demon barber. Not the same as the musical I so liked but good ol' Tobias always saves the day. Then found this movie and ended up watching it without skimming through it as much as I expected to do.

    • @tederbate

@nelllybellly1 - You're a gent! The 1936 version of "Sweeney Todd" is memorable if for no other reason that it stars the dramatically named (and very "hammy") Tod Slaughter. I recommend the 2006 version made by BBC TV which starred Ray Winstone. As for Mr. Hunter, whilst at college I was friends with a Mott fanatic, a group which meant nothing to me, but later on another friend, a Bowie fanatic, persuaded me to buy Mr. Hunter's first solo LP (it was on sale), which featured ex-Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson. I quickly grew to love the record, and still have it. Vinyl, anyone! I have written a lot of CD booklets but alas only a handful of vinyl sleeve-notes, on one of which I got certain facts very wrong (no internet to consult then), but managed to correct on a later box-set by the same (alcoholic) artist.

Is that Spencer Tracy in an English film?? 🤔

@Lukion Smith - You sound surprised, there is only one Spencer Tracy. The M-G-M financed film was set and shot in England and is based on a British play which also ran with moderate success on Broadway.

@Youth Ministry Highway 🛣 To Faith and Hope - Don't preach ignorant nonsense on my channel - the parents cared a great deal and wanted their son to find secure employment when he left school to provide long-term security in an age when the working class had very hard lives, very little legal protection and not much political power. If you have nothing constructive or factual to say, DON'T SAY IT.

Which translates as: "Superb film based on true events which became known as the "Spithead" and "Nore" mutinies in 1797, interesting script with well done fights, there is an anachronism, at one point you hear a sailor sing "Oh Shenandoah", this popular song originated in the early 1800s and therefore would not have been known at the time of this film's setting in 1797, hence stunning and stunning to me as a rating is an 8." An interesting, succinct critique, although the final bit about "stunning" doesn't translate well. The point about the song, "Oh Shenandoah", is a good one, the film scriptwriters obviously discovered that it was a popular sea shanty in the 19th Century, and anachronistically added it here, although that might have been poetic licence to cater for an American audience (the film was American financed). Spithead is an anchorage near Portsmouth, the Nore ditto in the Thames Estuary.
