trying out the Deerhunter explore smock for the first time
“I love this”….giggle. That says it all.
I like them that much i have the Belay jkt in green four special 6 shirts three in green one in black two mountain shirts in royal blue and the windproof shirt for the summer. Yeah they are the nuts buffalo systems, we used them back in the late 80's and 90's while i served in an infantry unit and old habits die hard, i live in mine from mid october til april may, i need them now as ive moved to the north east of scotland to keep my southern blood warm😂
Action man walking down the road 😂 i agree, people looking like walking tress 😂👍🏼
Sorry to be the first dislike bud but the sound is terrible.
No worries, I'm not a professional youtuber, all done with my mobile, so it's isn't always perfect.
Love my special 6 shirt. Must have owned it for at least 6yrs and apart from the odd burn hole from campfires its performance in variable British weather is unequalled as far as I’m concerned.
Totally agree. I just bought my second one, love them.
Whats the Rubber circle on the chest for??
No rubber circle, I think it's the Deerhunter logo you can see.
Its above the logo??
It Reads Deerhunter and above that it's a Deers head
Isn't it for headphones to come out of pocket for radio
@@jamie152 yep
Would you say the argyll is better than the deerhunter smock wich is longest in length
Not a lot to choose between the two, I use the deerhunter more when out rough shooting. Its kangaroo pocket is big and roomy. The Argyll I use more when out walking. "Hope that's of help"
Sorry deerhunter is a tad longer
Glad it helped
helpful thanks for making the demonstration
Which do you think is best, that or the deerhunter smock?..
I'd go for the Argyll
No problem
Thanks for sharing 👍
No problem 👍
I got a X large, I'm a 46-48 chest. If that's any help.
Any joys on a size you purchased please?
Hey Buddy awesome video! What size is yours? XXXL?
Good review, how does it compare to the Ridgeline smock you bought.
Makes a pretty good hot water bottle too.
Nasty old bald headed gay daddy army dressing-up box fantasies?
Just convinced me bought a 50in one with a hood hope it's as good as he says thanks
Bit warm to wear this weather ut you won't be disappointed come the cold weather
Hi there, can you please advise me if you are still liking the smock and how it is after 6 months plus usage?
Yes, I do still like the smock , the only thing is I'd buy the charcoal coloured one if I was to buy it again, the one I got is a little lighter than I'd have liked. "But I still like it"
You wondered why anyone would want a bright orange... In a lot of places you have to have Blaze orange while hunting. Even if you have camo clothing while you are getting to your spot you have to have the blaze orange visible.
I never knew that that, thanks for sharing 👍
I’m with you. The blue isn’t my choice either!
Loving the videos keep it up!!
Great video..loads of interesting information.. Please could you advise what size chest you are and what size did you need. Many thanks
Sorry bud only just seen your message, I'm 46"-48" chest Xl fits great 👍
@@batbushcraft thank you.. that’s a great help..
Greetings from Northern Ireland, great review....subscribed
good honest and to the point well done mate
Hi. Where can I get one in a size 40/42” chest please?
Try ebay
Needlesports in Keswick sell them.
That's a cracking man cave you've got mate, but that blue is horrendous lol
This isn't British Army issued, this was made by Highlander and it's their "Halo" smock
Should have used a similar fleece they use in the buffalo jacket ! Fleece in this sticks to anything like glue
Love mine to bits, I’ve been thinking about blacking out the blue badges with a sharpie 🤔
I ordered one of those last winter, I ordered the right size for me but sent it back due to the fact that I was struggling just to get my arms in, it just felt like too much faf, and I wasn't that keen on the material either, too soft and silky for my liking, I prefer something with a more robust feel to it, so I ended up with a grade 1 military surplus windproof MTP smock jacket, treated it with Fabsil gold to waterproof it and it's ideal for walks up in the hills, and if it's really cold I wear a down jacket underneath it as a mid layer
Is that an issue smock? My issue one doesn't have a civvy label in it?
Nope, it's by a Scottish company Highlander.
Remember to always pack a UL t-shirt for when you get to the pub! /Train station I always die from heat as soon as I'm inside and don't where anything underneath
Got two Special 6 jackets, one in green and one in black both with hoods, plus mittens, also an old yellow / purple cycle jacket ( at least 28 years old! ) and a pair of green super warm trousers. Plus the inner and outer 4 sleeping bag. I cannot adequately describe how much I love this gear! It has NEVER let me down either in the Peak District ( where I live) or anywhere else. Made in Britain too.
Missed the sale in my size! Gutted. If you don't mind me asking, wheres the hoodie you're wearing from?
Hi Chip, it was off ebay It's a Jack Pyke Sherpa Fleece cost around £25-£30 in my size XL
@@batbushcraft thanks for that! Much appreciated!
Great as always 👍🏾
Cheers Hydee
Do you wear like a fleece or something underneath it?
What are you wearing underneath?? And chance of a link to it? Cheers
I'd be wearing either the army thermal smock or a Buffalo 6 shirt, I have videos on my channel
@@batbushcraft thanks for getting back to me , appreciate it. I ordered both today , I'll let you know how I go. Really enjoy your videos, now subscribed. Thanks again - Mark
My pleasure Mark, you won't regret buying them. Cheers Neal
@@batbushcraft great product - deerhunter - but just a bit too long in the body for me. But no doubting the quality. Going for a country innovation Woodlark Smock. But keeping the buffalo 👍🏾👍🏾
@` Hydee hope your new smock is ok, never had one but hopefully in the future one will come my way 😉
They are designed to be snug, if you go to their website they say not to wear anything under it. It works better next to your skin.
I have the active shirt and the mountain shirt, mountain shirt must be 20 years old now.. Still going strong, I'm always gutted when the weather warms up and it is too warm to wear it. Been to the top of mountains and survived 6 years in mountain rescue.. unbeatable kit.. Great review
Thanks for the review. I agree, a good bit of kit for layering (which is what it was designed for). It was always meant to be a mid-layer allowing for more layers (and an outer shell) depending on the temperature. The vent holes in the armpits are a godsend in this regard. Re: Sizing. I do have a few bits of modern British army kit. I can only assume, if one is to judge by the clothing sizes, that he modern British army consists of Oompa-Loompas. I am 5'9" and a skinny as a sparrow's ankle, and I squeeze into a 'Large.' So yes, I a size up. Small and mediums are easy to find. There is a very good reason for this. On other hand, they are meant to be snug and have the side zips to help you deal this snugness. The 'Large' is the right one for me. Re: Catching. This is true. But in fairness the PCS is designed to be worn over the new design Norgie top. The Norgie top has a catch hole in the end of the sleeve that you can pull your thumb through. When you do that, the sleeves of the Norgie do not ride up. Note that the sleeves on the PCS are deliberately a little shorter than you might expect so as to take this factor into account. Obviously, if you have under it any other piece of clothing you will not have this same advantage and the problem with riding up is a real one. Not the end of the world though. Despite the above, for the price, it is a belting piece of kit. The PCS is not 'the poor man's buffalo.' It is like comparing apples and pears. The PCS was never designed as an outer layer (like the Buffalo). Rather, it goes over a Norgie (and maybe a wooly-pulley), and beneath smock windproof arctic or British Army MTP Lightweight Goretex Jacket. As such, it does a fantastic job. As you rightly say, it is not a Buffalo. It is not meant to be.
I agree 100% a great bit of kit even with my criticisms I love mine and like I mentioned in the video when mine is knackered I'd be replacing it with a new one for the money it's a no brainer.
Had one years ago and practically lived in it I may have to reinvest
Ordered the gamekeeper jacket based on your review of the smock 🤞 it's as good in jacket form
this is a good canteen cup
Pertex material, tears easily,if they made it in ripstop be even better. I have worn them for years and never let me now down. Get a hood mate, its even better. On a frozen mountain its the best thing you can wear for the money , and as long as your moving, generating some heat, will be warm.👍🏼
If your looking for almost the same thing but in rip stop there is a British company called arktis that makes one in rip stop more color choices to
The shirt won't work as intended if it was for pertex. The pile lining wicks moisture away and thr pertex evaporates it into the air. I also have the Arktis version, which is ripstop (I think condora) which I use for woodland camps, but it is not as good as my Buffalo. It also doesn't have an adjustable waist and I find the stomach area is very loose.
Just subbed
Thanks for the update.
Sorry it's taken so long, life sometimes gets in the way of things we want to do, but hopefully better late then never.
@@batbushcraft very true.
Hi I am thinking of buying this jacket can you tell me have you tested it in bad weather 🌧 Rain, qnd how did it do,thanks
It's good in the rain for sure would highly recommend
@@batbushcraft thank you for your review 🙏 I have subscribed to your channel.
Great video. I've just bought a mk1 crusader mug, got a bottle and the plastic mug for the top on the way. Used to use these in the army in the early 90s.
