Saycon Sengbloh - First Defying Gravity - Broadway - 9th March 2005
The first ever time Saycon went on as Elphaba, what an amazing first Defying Gravity! Saycon should definitely have been principal Elphaba!

Shoshana Bean Defying all kinds of hell out of Gravity! My favourite Elphaba ever! So much power in those pipes! I have over 30 recordings of Shoshana on Broadway and this is one of my favourites!! Glinda is Megan Hilty!! Audio quality isn't great but this was over 8 years ago!!! :O Full show for trade! Subscribe Request??? Let me know! :)
Carmen Cusack - Defying Gravity - 22nd December 2007

In my opinion, one off the best Defying Gravity recordings of Carmen there is! Such powerful vocals, the "find me" riff is similar to the one she performed in Australia yet she did it so her early in her run as principal on the First National Tour! One of my favourite Elphabas!! Full show for trade. Subscribe.
Carrie Manolakos - Defying Gravity - 10th January 2010

Carrie Manolakos taking over mid show for a sick Marcie Dodd, and singing the life out of Defying Gravity. In my opinion Carrie is one of the better standbys the second national tour has had, I love the way her voice sounds so young!! Full cast information. Marcie Dodd (Elphaba), Carrie Manolakos (Elphaba s/b), Helene Yorke (Glinda), Colin Donnell (Fiyero), Marilyn Caskey (Madame Morrible), Don...
Jemma, willemijn are the healthiest elphabas
Dont forget about jessica vosk!
I was born on THIS EXACT date! Didn’t know i shared my birthday with my favourite Elphie’s first Defying Gravity 😯🤩
I love you, Carrie!
Riffs: 0:19 0:28 0:33 0:44 0:52!! 1:09 - 1:11 1:19 1:26
Her placement is so good. She is in my top 5 elphabas without question
hands down!
Ah, it's Rem!!!
We stan Carrie's vocal production forever.
Dang, she was on fire.
Her final riff is iconic and i have never seen anyone do it like that that.
how was she just a stand by she's incredible!!!
I worked with her in January. She is amazing! So humble to have worked with her.
Bring her to Broadway PLEASE!!!
Trade the full show?
I'm not huge Shoshana Bean fan. I get why people like her. I just don't have an emotional connection to her voice. I do think she sounds amazing here. She is so technically proficient!
BRING HER BACK
I never understood why they didn't have her go full time on Broadway or on tour. She did find her place in other shows and now seems like she's transitioned to TV but I wish I could have heard her develop her Elphaba voice over time. Perhaps lucky her? As a long run as Ephie can wreak havoc on your voice.
@@chocolatesouljah I remember the rumor back in the day that they did offer her the role full time and she turned it down, due to salary issues. She should have definitely done the roll full time on tour or Broadway.
@@sohoboy506 thanks for the update it’s very interesting. I had not heard of the room that you mention and certainly possible. she ended up carving out her own pathway something that may not of happened if she ended up playing Elphaba for two years say on Broadway and on the road. And as I mentioned earlier less havoc on the voice. I would say her career at this point is more distinguished than the average person who plays Elphaba (although no average person can play that role! 😇) there are some exceptions such a Stephanie J block for example, but Saycon Sengbloh, Has created an original role in a Broadway musical, gotten respect as a straight actor with a Tony nomination and a list Film and television credits.
There is a video of this performance.
Beautiful
Does she have an accent? I always thought the way she talks and sings is pretty.
She is Australian. She has a slight accent when she sings and when she talks an Australian accent.
That second Bring Me Down though.
I'd say her and Mary Kate Morrissey are the best standbys 2nt has seen (not counting standbys that have been promoted to lead)
This is near the exact date I saw Wicked for the first time. YAAS!
She looks kinda derpy in that picture lol Still love her
The clip that everyone is talkin about is the same show as this
I agree with everything below but would like to add that i love the flow she has with the song. When compared to the other elphabas sgpe makes some of them sound choppy by comparison. Yet when you listen to them seperately they sound fine. If that makes any sense at all haha.
Had I not been told that this was her first performance, I would never have been able to guess. She was fantastic from day one!
She's truly amazing. I wish she brings back her 2nd "Bring me down" riff!
she's one of my favorites. i love her a TON.
She really deserves to be brought to Broadway someday, she's been doing this role for damn near forever.
Maybe the 20th anniversary
SHES STILL DOIN IT
@@harper8675she is? i haven’t heard any recent news of her playing elphie or any performances am i missing something?
She’s not doing it anymore!
Ok, that scream at the end made my eardrums bleed. Lol
this was recorded on my birthday :D
Shoshana was my first of seven Elphabas and will always be the best! So much depth in her character and her vocal abilities are still unmatched - although Marcie Dodd, Alison Luff, & Christine Dwyer have come close :)
I've always said it and will continue to, there is so pair that can compare to Shoshana and Megan.
I love her! She needs to come back. There was a video floating around from her run on Broadway a looong time ago and it was shot from the sixth row or so and she did the "Tell them" riff.
It's actually from this performance.
You are getting great clips of these Elphabas and I am really enjoying them, so thank you!
No problem, if you ever want a request please feel free to message me :)
Have you got any of Rachel Tucker? She is a brilliant Elphaba but there isn't many clips of her ;(
My next post will be a Rachel Tucker clip ;)
Thank you so much!!!! Your awesome ;*
No bother :)
If anybody has that audio from I think 2/1 or 2/2 that the orchestra messes up as she's rising, I'd be dying to see that posted! :)
So I got super excited when I first saw this but then realized that this audio is already up... You know know/added the date lol
Hey there!! I didn't realise this was already up! I have about 4/5 audios from this same week! Would you like to see any of those? :)
that's fantastic! I was listening to it and was like why does this sound sooooo familiar hahaha but that'd be amazing! Any from the 27th by any chance?? That was when I saw it in St. Louis with her and Katie, and they were the bestesttttt :D
That riff was started by Shoshana in 2005. Loads of actresses have imitated it.
You mean: Eden Espinosa,Rachel Tucker and Alice Fearn
Her vibrato on "sky" is gorgeous and amazing!
Wow!! She's amazing! Where did you get this? Do you have more? I heard her around this point in the run. She really came into her own. Thanks for posting!!
