The Most Terrifying Night Crossing the Gulf Stream. Ep. 59

In this episode, we move over to Radio Beach to set up for a midnight departure to cross to the states. It ended up being the most terrifying sail we have ever had. High winds, 10 to 12 foot seas and we couldn’t slow Tova down. To top it off we had the high water alarm going off due to the bilge pump not working in the middle of the night! We surf the wave in through the Lake Worth Inlet and an...

Damn that is one sexy crimper you got there....

🤣🤣
No project tote on my boat. NO NO I got a whole project pilot birth. LOL
Hahahahahaha!! I read that first line and I was like “oh they have all their projects complete” 🤣 then the punchline…whole project pilot birth! 🤣🤣🤣 thanks for watching and commenting, Cheers from the Tova crew
I was with Mike one time and MacGyver called him for advice on a project!
Best comment ever!!!! Mike LOL when he read this 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and it’s a true statement
I found a 55gal drum of submarine paint...bullet proof lol. Works for me!
Tried calling the navy but we can’t find that anywhere 🤣🤣🤣
You have any leaking with the flush mounted salon windows?
No, they are bedded really well. Our Lewmar port lights are leaking so we are getting ready to replace the acrylic on all of them. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Good grief that was a lot of impellor parts. Glad it didn't cause any issues. As for that list, does it include giving Archie some imported cheese? 😆 He deserves it after getting scared of the loud noises. ... I hope you all are ready for the incoming storm and have a safe place to go. Hopefully the boat will be alright too. -- Jerry
Ok that’s a whole nother level of cheese…imported cheese 🤣🤣 We are in the water in a slip at the marina in Titusville. We have battened down the hatches, many lines securing Tova and lots of cheese for Archie. We are feeling the winds, some rain and expecting surge tomorrow. We are staying on the boat but will leave if needed. Thanks for checking on us Jerry!
@@sailingtova good! Hopefully the storm won't affect you badly, or any others no matter where they are. As for Archie's imported cheese, you know, like from Wisc. LOL ... but no Limburger 😆 As for checking on you, you are most welcome. Stay safe please and don't wait until the last minute to bail if need be. -- Jerry
@@JK-gn6qr Eye eye Captain Jerry!!
@@sailingtova Thank you.
Hi I see you are in Titusville I should be there tomorrow to flight my paramotor o close to the marina I will like to mee you guys
We should be around the boat yard. You can message us on FB Sailing Tova page
@sailingtova hey sorry I didn't stop by I flow over I have few nice pictures of the marina
@@centralfloridaparamotor we took some video of you flying over, I think it was you. You made some circles over the marina. Maybe next time you are over we can meet up with you.
A gun cleaning kit works great for cleaning out the tubes in that heat exchanger. I think it is the 30cal brass barrel brush I used on mine. Just a tip for next time you have the caps off.
Well that is some good information, thank you. Sounds like something we should have. I think if we ever get a different boat we will be checking the heat exchanger when we replace the impeller the first time 🤣🤣! Thanks for watching and commenting, have a great weekend.
Nice work moving that battery you two ... before you clean up tho, I think Archie would like a grilled heat gun cheese sammich 😹
Thanks Jerry!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 grilled heat gun cheese sammich
@@sailingtova 🤣🤣🤣 you're so very welcome 😂
I'm shocked Archie wasn't bundled up in a goose down snorkel ... 😅
🤣 He does have a winter vest that is fleece lined for when we go snow skiing. He looks like a little armadillo in it 🤣🤣🤣
@@sailingtova 🤣🤣🤣a skiing armadillo ... 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Jerry, in the episode that come out this evening at the end you will see a photo of Archie in his Armadillo parka 🤣🤣
@@sailingtova 😻Puur-fect ...
Buzzzz! Don't put your fingers in the socket. That was a nice time in Titusville!
Hahahaha! Yes it was my friend, all the smiles were a dead giveaway 🤣🤣
Wonderful memories of Grand lake. Thanks for the beautiful pictures!
Some of the best memories we made! Love it there!! ❤️❤️
Copper coat. Spendy but good bottom coating and lasts up to 10 years
What brand? We put Interlux copper coat on and it lasts a year, not a fan of Interlux. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Nice. I’m a relocated Tulsa guy who now lives in the Gulf Coast with a Hunter 386. :). Spent a lot of time at Grand. My band used to play at Uglies! Is it still there?
Nice!! We have been to Uglys many times on Grand Lake and it is still open. The life long sailors on Grand Lake would tell us “if you can sail on Grand Lake you can sail anywhere” I didn’t believe them but now I do 🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Poor dog
Yeah, he hates loud noises 🥲
Happy Thanksgiving!!! No thanks on that storm. So glad you made it. As for that 'only a minute' 🤣 Gald that's fixed also. Now then, about that can opened ... Ach chi chi cheese says you don't need it to open cheese. 😹
Hahahahaha, we are both LOL this morning with our coffee! Yeah that crossing wasn’t fun at all!! Archie doesn’t even know why we even waste space with canned green beans 🤣🤣🤣
@@sailingtova 😆 ... ☕☕ Good morning
Just laying back taking it easy😂
He loves hanging out there when it is calm sailing!
Lucky dog 😊
He is, but we are even luckier! He’s a pretty special little sailor dog!
This is my first video on this channel. You take cussing like a sailor to the next level 😂😂😂. Im defintely gonna subscribe 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 He was pretty pissed after the second try . He always makes me laugh, our sister in law who does not cus like us says we speak fuckannese 🤣🤣🤣! Oh and Mike literally LOL when he read your comment, it was great!! Thank you for watching and commenting and for subscribing!! Cheers
By the title of this, one might expect to see some footage of this proclaimed "Most Terrifying Crossing" but then nobody on board was able to take even a minute to film some of the sea state? Well this has all the makings of a totally boring B roll video with an even more boring narration. So, it's easy now to see why you have such a small following, you guys are boring! So long to you and your shitty videos!
For the pump switch, which commonly fails, add two in parallel. That way, either switch can start the bilge pump. Cheers.
That is a great idea!! Thanks for watching. Cheers.
That inlet is pretty easy at night. You can even take a left into that big anchorage where there is always a spot to anchor while you get your bearings.
We do like that inlet but haven’t ever come in at night. You are right it probably would have been fine but we weren’t comfortable after such a long rough sail. Thanks for watching and commenting! We will try that anchorage next time.
That google sat view is not Radio Beach, but South Bimini.
Just rewatched and you are correct!! We were in south Bimini in front of the old resort/marina and moved around to Radio Beach. Good catch…..thanks for watching and commenting!
@@sailingtova Both are wonderful.
I'm going to make this easy for you next time. Stage at No Name Harbor. Wait until you have a forecast of no wind out of the north and no more than 10 knots from anywhere else (if you don't have the time to wait, you should make the time). Leave at 5 am in the morning. It super easy to leave NoName and head east in the dark. You will arrive at Bimini, even if you have to motor, in plenty of time to get checked in. There is no reason to do what you did.(unless you just want content for a video).
Hey Ralph, thanks for watching and commenting. We weren’t in Florida we were in Bimini headed back to the states coming into Lake Worth Inlet. This was our 8th crossing and all others have been smooth sailing. The weather forecast was for 20 knots, not out of the north, and 4 foot seas…they got it wrong on the forecast. When we leave FL for Bimini we actually stage at Angelfish Creek to take advantage of the Gulf Stream.
@@sailingtova , I was mainly writing for people who had never gone over before who think this is the way it has to be done. Bad weather doesn't kill you. Schedules kill you.
@@ralphholiman7401 agreed for sure!! Weather is the number one thing we watch. We are under no time schedule so we have no problem waiting.
......oh, and why leave at 5pm or even midnight?
🤣🤣 we like crossing at night….
I'm curious. What was the forecast for that crossing? We had a similar crossing last year, and the forecast misses it completely. Our dog does the same thing... any time I lift the floor boards, she hides....maybe she knows that I will be cursing soon 😂
That’s hilarious about you pup! Yeah, Archie hates it!!! The forecast was 15 to 20 knots and maybe 4 foot seas. We would have never left then if we had known it was going to be 30+ knots and 10 to 12 foot seas. Oh and there was no moon out so the waves looked like monsters coming out of the sea 🫣
No thanks!!
I just could not believe it was anchored there and if someone was on it they had to have been knocked out from the thrashing
Aren't they illegal to spear?
In the Bahamas it is illegal to use a spear gun, but Hawaiian Sling and pole spears are legal gear and method.
It was nice of the harbor master to invite you in, it would have been a very rough night out there. Mike, did the new part fix the autopilot? As for that apple pie, did Archie suggest putting cheese on top of it before he got his taste? 😅and it was hilarious the battle over the crust 🤣but Sarah, you needed that little extra crust to focus on being the dingy thruster, right? hehehe and no, I'm not going to say you drive like a woman. Nope 😂Thanks for the chuckles -- Jerry
Jerry, good to hear from you. Yes that feedback arm fixed the autopilot, thank goodness. Mike is pretty handy. Archie just want cheese pie period 🤣🤣🤣. I don’t eat sugar very often so Mike doesn’t have to share but I couldn’t resist home made pie! I don’t think Mike liked sharing 🤣! Driving like a women you say 🤣 I have to agree on this one, that is why we put circus music to it.
@@sailingtova Mike, I like that style, one can seldom go wrong with circus music 😂and it so fit the situation!! Sarah, I'm not much of a sweet eater either and I could sense Mike was a little anxious might I say about sharing, especially when it came to the crust. Which I might add, Archie would have enjoyed wrapped in cheese. You know Mike would have no recourse for that. 🤣
You see the way that boats rocking nine months later they had like 12 kids all at one time😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice job guys!
Thank you so much!!
'Archie, are you hungry' ... 'Don't say that' ... then from the table you hear 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' ... I bet Archies ears perked up when he heard the word 'cheese' 😅Hope you got the autopilot working. -- Jerry
Haha! The H word is definitely his favorite one to hear!! He got some of that CHEESEburger!! I pretty much give him what ever he wants in moderation. The episode that is coming out today will tell you how it went!! Good to hear from you, Jerry! Thanks for watching and commenting….your friends on Tova!! 🧀🐾

I think you could put on more sail. Just sayin.
More sail? If they wanted more speed they just need to pull in the boom and punch the gas. That said...they look rather comfortable 😅
Sarah is “The Reef Police!!” What she says goes..😁😁
We were definitely comfortable..We have found out if we keep Tova on her feet she will go fast enough for us…😄😄
