Hi Matt, I shoot with the outlaws this year . Up 2.5 months ago I never shoot a wood arrow in my life. Yeah, definitely a learning curve 🙄😀 I have 2 questions I was shooting/ building poc and Doug fur shafts . Just wondering if there was any particular reason u like spruce shafts ? Also I was shooting 11/32 shafts. When I was doing all this I was wondering if 5/16 would be more forgiving, ie would the thinner shaft come back from paradox faster . Any thoughts? Thanks Mark
Thanks for the information. I also reload my own ammunition. I didn’t know that so much detail could go into building arrows.
Thanks! That means you payed attention! I appreciate it. That’s the thing with wood. They can be time intensive. But once you dial it in. It’s perfect! More videos to come on this subject!
Thanks for the video. Where can i find part two. I can not find it on your videos.
I just put the part 1 up last night. This will be a long going series. I’ll make part q in the next couple days. In the mean time. I’ll be doing another series of setting up a bow from scratch
Matty thanks for sharing this great information. Great tips also.
Mom to come
Hey man, is one of those axia limbs smoother to draw than the other??? I’m assuming you’ve shot the all black ones and the black and white ones. Thanks
Smoothe… no. I think the carbon/foam core is quieter which I appreciate. Smoothe is all “relative” as we are technically looking for deviations in the draw force curve. Which I don’t think there is. I will say the Hoyt limb is not as “soft” or “Spongy” through the curve like you’d find in an UUKHA limb.
Matty, I also take a spin 90 degrees from the edge grain spine. I will use this spine to tight the spread on a group of arrows. If the 90-degree spine is 2 pounds lighter and that makes my group tighter in spine I mark the arrow with a line to show the nock rotation desired when I nock them. If you need a pound, then maybe only a 45-degree nock location. One can also shorten arrows before spinning and sometime cut out problem areas. Thanks for the great content it is helpful.
Gregg 😂 I do the same. I didn’t want to bore people with too many details. I’m “I’m trying” to keep the videos shorter as I’ve learned people get bored and skip and fast forward.. but yes good detail and I agree
I like it all Matty keep the videos coming, brother. Great tips good detail and content 👍🏻
Appreciate the feedback, I'm glad you liked it!
Dude everyone I know who went to Lancaster this year got sick. Super spreader event.
Yes every year it was where I first got Covid. When it wasn’t even a thing yet!
Congrats to Julie for doing so well
Thank you. Maybe next year we can get her to podium!
Your incorrect 5th end (131) check your math!
Put the mic on the back of your shirt or sleeve.
I have a limited edition Hoyt Xceed 27 inches and a dedicated weight. Xceed is a really nice handle
It’s really hard to trust your reviews Matt!! You can make any bow look good🤣 great video and fun to watch 👍
I’d love to see a video of how you set up wood arrows for longbow.
I’m making that vid right now! I’m trying to plan how to do it. Like. Multiple videos or one long one. People don’t seem to like the longer ones so I want to keep it concise and to the point. However some people love the details of the longer videos. 🤷 it’s a process…
@ I like both, simple helps us getting started but the more details are needed as we grow. Some days I feel like I’m just starting, and I’m always looking to grow.
One year struggling with where to put the tab and all kinds of videos.. finally the perfect video! Thanks so much. If you don’t have a video on how and where to cut this tab, please do !!
Marks and stitches are overrated since own markings on tape are allowed. The tabs you show are actually quite bad, as the tape has to cover all of the factory made engravings to follow the rule book. So it is much better to have just a light laser engraving, which can be sanded down and replaced with a tape.
If you could stop shooting good scores with hunting rigs please 😂…. I have run Centrerest Flippers on all my curves for 20 years. Great rests
Man that bow sounds nice.
It looks like you are using a screw-in point insert on the 1914 Eclipse shafts. Can you let us know who makes or sells these? Easton doesn't seem to offer the RPS insert in 1914 size.
Yes! It’s an EASTON 1913 RPS insert. Lancaster should have em. Or anyone who sells aluminum arrows
@@MattYacca Thanks!
Aaawww... I miss you, brother. Always have. Glad to see that you're crushing it with archery! : ) Hope your mom and dad are doing great! : )
My man! 😘 I’ll hit you back in a PM
You pulled the bow a bit further (maybe an inch) when you stood up to check the draw weight. Look at around the 9.10 mark. The bow is probably 40#.
Curious on your final arrow length Matt?
30”
Lots of good takeaways from a high level guy. Gold video. Nice to see you shooting aluminums. Also, appreciate the comment on not changing anything after shooting several arrows.....my bad. Guilty
😂 we’re all guilty of that. The problem we have as humans is that we are not patient. And we don’t slow down to think. Just act 👍
Awesome video Matt! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great video, enjoy the format. Good luck at Lancaster!!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing this great review on the longbow.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video
So far my best score in practice with one of my longbows is 263 with carbons and 250 with woods, Vegas scoring. I’d say anything over 240 is great shooting!
Those are great something for me to work on for sure. This makes for great Discussion about wood arrows versus carbon arrows as well
@@MattYacca I think wood arrows could be built to be almost as consistent as carbons, but just the minor straightness, spine, and weight variations definitely lower the score some regardless I do believe.
Have you found a good ballpark mid range setting for the Wifler plunger. I kinda just left mine on 4.
I’m a 5 and out. Never been on the heavy side. Not to say “I’m right” I just think it’s different for everyone I always START AT 5
Good video Matt ! I think I will get one 🤘🏻
They’ll Gregg I sent you
I just got my first longbow this year. Old mountain mesa 64". Its awesome but i suck lol. Decent for me is all the way out to the 3 ring lol. Honestly I'm just working on form and grouping.
Good would be shooting by longbow rules: wooden arrows and split finger instead of three under and long, long arrows to shoot by gapping. I miss the good old days when archers shot without trying to use the tip of the arrow as a sight. But then that's just me. Plenty of people just don't want to put in the effort to shoot the traditional style.
I'm new to barebow but not archery. I wanted to do Lancaster last year, but had to have elbow surgery. So I tried for this year and I wound up getting so sick and had two major surgeries so this year was out. Now I am getting ready for one more surgery. I am hoping to be well enough by 26 to try my hand and Lancaster. Good luck dude, love your vids and learn a lot so thank you.
FANTASTIC!
Got to your channel thanks to your recent Push podcast. Great stuff…Thanks!
Thanks for checking out the channel! I appreciate toy being here
Barebow is challenging for sure.Your a good shot and good luck at Lancaster you should do well.Lookin forward when you do a target panic video
Brother 43@28 what spine arrows and point weight are you using?
This particular set up is a 600 spine with 225 up front I shoot 600 spine with MOST of my set ups
Brother you use the feather to nose technique?
I do not use that method it takes a lot to set that up correctly. Easily done but not something I prefer
Off topic of this video but what quiver are you using ? KUIU or Whiskey City
This is the KIFARU quiver
I’m a straight gapstinctive shooter, but if I was string walking, that is exactly how I would do it. My probability of hitting that 12 ring at will is extremely low. I’m a 540ish shooter but my x count is very low, maybe 5 or 6 for a full round. I tried it the other night and it took me 18 shots to touch it but most of my arrows would have stayed in the 9 ring. Good video.
Good Stuff Matt! And Thak you for sharing your knowledge and time. Good luck at Lancaster!
Appreciate that, I'll do my best!
I would be happy with 243. Have fun!
I think it’s pretty decent. It will be great to see how it all shakes out in the end next weekend
Looked good, better than my shooting for sure. Lol
Love the long bow i want one, i shoot recurve and compound in the past, just hunting and some small time regionals or club shoot some 3 D,also i was addicted to making make wood arrows,😊😊 you are an amazing shot good luck at Lancaster
@@timsterrett2417 thanks I appreciate it! Gregg makes great bows
great shooting and good luck at Lancaster. Can you do review on your longbow.
I will soon!
The art of repetition. I like the make it look good slogan, and your explanation for it made a lot of sense.
Nice shooting! I really enjoy your content. Enjoyed your content on the push podcast too.
Great video! Keep it up! This is the first I've heard of a longbow class at Lancaster, It's too late for me to register for this year..maybe next. I have a Java Man Elkheart that I got from Gregg at the GLLI last summer. Love it! That Impala looks like it wood be quite a bit better for target, but the Elkheart will have to do for me (not in my budget to get another bow from Gregg). Best of luck at the Classic! I take it you live in the Fort Collins area? I spend every March in Colorado but not very close to FC though. I stay in Salida and shoot a bit at Western Recreational Industries (used to be Western Archery).
Thanks for the comments. I remember “western” and yes. It’s too late to register for the LAC. I think this past Wednesday
How can you shoot such high (weak) spines from that bow? I shoot 400s with 180 grains in front from my 42# longbow. Bare and paper tuned and all. 29-inch draw. Conundrum for me. Nice channel and video!
I think a lot of it has to to with the individual and how clean their release is… or isn’t….. just a theory but more aggressive releases will require lower spines.
Love the rebel alliance emblem on the bow! you a fan ?😊 really enjoying the vids here in Northern Ireland man keep it up 👍🏻
Yes I am! Huge fan. No one else noticed that. lol 😂 thanks for watching
Look at traditional class in The Shoot Out Series. Starks shoots a Roots longbow with carbon. He will be at LAC. 240s to 250s and he is the best in the class. Wood he is in the same average.
