this is not polymorphism. for polymorphism , overloading methods should be in same class and overriding methods in inherited class. here there is no relation between Cat and Dog . Niether overloaded or overrided

What you don't seem to understand is that there is no actual typing, variant or class child involved so python doesn't "know automatically which method to call" it just doesn't assume there is one and at runtime check if there is for the current object...
