    May I ask, is this fundamentally an American phenomenon or do we see the same ethnic barriers in churches around the world? I suspect that certain denominations are more color exclusive than others.

    Here is my dilemma. I feel church is steered to women and children. The church we go to huge. Feel totally lost. But great amazing youth group for the boy. Amazing rock band (13 people) for the wife. Me, I go to support. I would love to go to a smaller church and find an accountability elder get deep in scripture, but it is not about me.

      @chrisn8250 It's easy to see why you'd feel this way. But way to go in supporting your family. I see no reason why you can't find a men's group at this large church and feel like your need for male community was met as well.

    I suggest people do a deeper search of what sanctification is because it’s a lot more than aching a Polaroid and waiting for the pitch to emerge. it’s a highly spiritual journey that takes the believer on a increasingly deeper connection with God and transforms us closer into the likeness of Jesus together with the help from the holy spirit. It’s far more than the analogy that he has shared far more and it’s very deep.

    I was born and raised a devout member of the LDS faith and served a two-year mission for that faith. However, God delivered me out of that abominable heavy yoke about two and a half years ago. During this time, I've done serious deconstruction and reconstruction. I have used a good amount of contemporary writings, personal Bible study, commentaries, podcasts, discussions, and seminary courses published on RUclips to do so, but I also have spent a lot of time reading classical Christian writings going back 2000 years. Particularly, Reformation literature has been an enormous help. This is my experience and point of view of why I feel disconnected, which may be different. Doing all this deconstruction, it has become quite apparent to me Evangelical Christianity in the West has become secularized in a bad way. Christianity suffered from pagan anthropomorphism in the past, but Christianity is now a secular anthropomorphism focusing on moralism and therapeutic deism. I am not just talking about the rock-concert churches, I am also talking about what expository preaching and worship has become. The pendulum has swung way too far the other direction to avoid emotionalism to the point of being sterile and casual. We are merely informed rather than transformed in sermons and in contemporary writings. While legalism is readily denounced, the mindset and actions of many do not match becoming functional legalists. The focus is on our external behavior as a Christian instead of the overall theme of our spiritual walk with God. Our spiritual walk is acknowledged, but the depth of our relationship and understanding of God's will is totally lacking. We get so caught up thinking our own efforts matter instead of realizing Christianity is about total surrender and submission to God. Believers get so caught up in the end resolution of a struggle or trial they are going through instead of the actual journey itself. I observe so many, with good intentions, try to do something and then try to backfill their efforts with the enabling power of God. Prayer has turned into this confusing concept of trying to "get" something, rather than a tool to unify with the Father developing relational understanding and dependence of provision. Being a 29 year old male, the catering to a feminine and geriatric demographics is very apparent in worship. Everything is softened and therapeutic to make the dominating population comfortable in their complacency. The fundamental mindset of Christianity has turned into one of defense, where a systematic theology textbook is written in the lens of apologetics instead of a growing faith of vitality. Crank eschatology leads believers into escapism from the world and shapes the message of the Gospel into a message of doom rather than hope. I still attend a local church faithfully, because removing myself only contributes to the problem and we are called to commune. The disconnect I feel, however, is something hard to even put words to. I violently got woken up to find myself a shipwrecked soul adrift at sea. Christ gracefully pulled my diabolical soul of that doom. The people I have been led to have been wonderful, but I weep at the poor state of the Church they were tasked to shepherd that I was met with upon my deliverance. I attend and participate in church, but mostly silent and reserved, because the thoughts placed in my head are met with hostility.

      @rp7983 I resonated with your post. Would you please expand on what you meant by "heavy yoke"?

    • @rp7983
      @rp7983 10 дней назад

      @ It’s a reference to Matthew 11:28-30. The heavy yoke was a term used to describe the difficult lifestyle of the Law during Christ’s time. This passage was pivotal for me upon leaving Mormonism, because I realized what the LDS institution took from me-a Gospel built on faith and surrender, not some legalistic nightmare trying to obtain your own righteousness. Mormonism today is trying to reinterpret its doctrine to blend in, but the version of that church I was raised in was all about proving your worthiness in works. Everything was about obtaining a certain level of piety to be “qualified” in whatever office or duty you were tasked with. Serving a mission for them is a lifestyle bordering on monkish asceticism with strict rules (enforced by surveillance) isolating you from all things worldly. No one is good enough for this, and it merely just exposes your sins, so it’s a religion of intense delusion, self-loathing, and emptiness. The heavy yoke turns into never feeling worthy but still good enough to try. Most people observe how excessively nice and friendly Mormons are, but this is truly an outward display entering into a transactional approach to life. If I am nice, then I am qualified to be righteous and progress spiritually.

    You guys are going about it completely wrong. First off there's not one pastor that is walking with Jesus. They all need to submit to Jesus and repent of their sin. And once they have repented and been forgiven and walked with Jesus. Then they will have the wisdom and understanding to pastor. Providing its from Jesus. You still need Jesus calling and anointing. Remember before Jesus came, John the Baptist preached repentance of sin, and baptism to believers, the house of Israel. Only once israel had confessed and repented of their sin did Jesus show up and preach the gospel while healing, casting out demons and teaching the disciples and people. Can you imagine a gay/transgender person saying God made me this way and Jesus or the apostles not having an answer or insight of what sin they need to repent of, and if they do, then Jesus would heal them. I know this stuff, because I've been repenting of my sin for awhile. And every case is different, even though many things are in common. You don't even realize you have ongoing sin to repent of, or even what questions to ask. Jeremiah 33:1-3. Many christians have indwelt demons and are clueless. Its about getting right with Jesus and having a relationship with Him. Its in the bible but we're just blind of our own sin just like Jews are about Jesus being the Messiah.

    My experience has been that, as studies prove, in general, men are logical, women emotional. Men know religion is bogus. It is at best, an outdated political philosophy, using superstitions to control.....and, extort cash from, men. Most men are dragged into church by the emotional women, making church a MATRIARCHAL system of oppression, not the other way around.

    What matter is personal relationship with Jesus. In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus says many people will do chrisitans stuff in My name but Jesus will tell them "...I never knew you..." that "knew"/knowing in the Greek is Gnosis which is first hand relational knowledge. Jesus was saying He never had relationship with those individuals.

    I grew up in church, but I'm smarter than most. 1 Corinthians 15 (KJV) ¹ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; ² By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. ³ For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; ⁴ And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Ephesians 1 (KJV) ⁷ In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; ¹³ In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 2 (KJV) ⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: ⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast. “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” - Ephesians 2:13 (KJV)
