@@UkieVera hi! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I would say as a new mama starting out, to just start with a ‘backbone’ of math and reading/language arts! Once you pick your curriculum/program for each of those, you can add to it later on. Alongside reading and math curriculums, I’d recommend always reading a big stack of books to your child! That’ll help with so much, and it covers other subjects besides reading, like science, history, geography, and more! Later on, you can also add on a little ‘morning basket’ routine, which allows you to cover subjects that are important to you as a family - like Bible stories, Bible verses, art, poetry, music, or seasonal picture books. I have a video up on my channel here about our morning basket routine (from about a year ago), and much of that video is still the same for us now! I hope that helps some! It can be intimidating when it fees like you have to do all the things, but start sweet and simple and add on from there what you feel you can implement next! As far as how long it takes me and how I organize it all, I pretty much just have our homeschool items in a few places downstairs in our house - bins in a kitchen cabinet for our ‘backbone’ subjects, lots of books in the living room, and our morning basket in the living room. Most of what I’ve chosen curriculum-wise doesn’t require me to do much prep. I know some moms love doing all the detailed prep but for me in this season of life, I love being able to open our math and reading programs to the next lesson or page, and just continuing on from there! I do plan out our Five in a Row curriculum because it involves picking a picture book and printing out activities to glue into our lapbooks (I have a video about Five in a Row, too!). Overall, though, our homeschool time is quite ‘open and go’ and I love that! (I spent a lot of time researching curriculum options over the spring and summer, and I keep a spreadsheet of ideas for future grades on my computer. I also prepped our activities binder for All About Reading, which took a few hours and was so worth it!) Hope that helps some! You’ve got this!

I have just loved starting at the book for age 3, but I wouldn’t say you need to have done that book first. If you have a 4 year old, I would recommend starting with the book for age 4! They are so great. I think you’ll enjoy them, whatever level you decide to jump in at!

That is such a good question! The Critical Thinking Co. designs their math workbooks to be used either way: as a stand alone curriculum or as a supplement to another curriculum you’re doing. (Here is their list of what they’ve recommend for each grade level if you only used their company: www.criticalthinking.com/full-curriculum) For my son (age 4.5, just finished 2nd year of preschool), I’ve used his Mathematical Reasoning workbooks as his math curriculum for all of his homeschool experience. For my daughter (age 6.5, just finished kindergarten), I used it as a supplement alongside The Good & The Beautiful’s Level K Math, but it then became more of a stand alone curriculum for her towards the end of the year here, because she finished TGTB Math a while ago and I’ve been thinking I’ll pivot away from TGTB Math for her next year so I didn’t want to buy the next TGTB Math level for her. I hope that helps some! The Mathematical Reasoning workbooks are my favorites, I think. They are just so sound and I love how they progress through (and review) important math skills. And, my kids love those workbooks! They’re well done!

We used Math with Confidence and I loved it but I got the The Critical Thinking Co math for the summer. So far it looks like he will enjoy it more (he’s very math savvy and didn’t love all of the games in MWC). What do you plan to do next school year for your daughter? I got the lower grade math one for my 4yo and plan to use that with her also. I really enjoy your videos! I believe our kids are the same age 🙂 6.5yo and 4.5yo ( I don’t have a baby though).

​@@JessicaJosie It's so fun to hear that we have kids who are the same ages! :) I haven't fully solidified what I'll be doing with my daughter (my 6.5 year old) just yet, but I've been heavily researching options for the past couple of weeks! I'm planning to start ordering curriculum soon and then I'll begin sharing videos highlighting our curriculum choices! It's exciting but it definitely can be overwhelming as a mama, right?! We all want to make the best choices (including academic choices) for our children that we can!! I want to go in a different direction from The Good & The Beautiful for math, as well as probably for reading/language arts...I do plan to keep incorporating The Critical Thinking Co. though!
