This is Tom Coster on keys, he cowrote this song as well as played with Santana's band for many years. Tom recorded this exact version on his "From Me To You" album. Although I'm A HUGH FAN of Gambales, many peeps giving props in the wrong direction. Only a couple comments actually acknowledging Tom. Since everyone seems to enjoy this version let's lift Tom up and give credit where credit is due. I do like Gambales solo on the double time at the end. He's using a wah pedal with the pedal in back position to get this tone, like Santana does. Love this!

Thanks for this! I have probably learned where the down beat falls 3 or 4 separate times, but every year or so I manage to forget and need to relearn. I think the common misconception is to start the count with 4 - &, with the down beat falling on the chord change. Even worse, if you keep that incorrect count going, the start of the guitar solo seems to match up correctly. There's even a cymbal crash on that beat. It's not until the quarter notes on the snare drum that you realize the count is off. I swear, it's like they crafted this intro to intentionally throw people off.

Before I gave up on drums (life happened), my favorite concept was playing between 6/8 and 4/4 by swapping from an accent on 2 & 4 (4/4) to an accent on 1 & 4 (6/8). I can't wait to go through your videos to see the more advanced forms of that. This is great!
