I have a degree in classical guitar but stopped playing and practicing seriously since I graduated from the conservatory in 2017. On the 2nd of July, 2020, I decided to commit into practicing again at least 1 hour every day but transitioning to jazz, blues, and contemporary. Almost everything you'll see here in my channel is my journey to be a better musician. I can say that it's somewhat like a video journal for my progress, but the main reason why I'm posting my videos here on youtube is so everyone can see that with enough dedication and perseverance, a progress will always be a progress no matter how big or small it will be, and that hard work can beat talent. (not that it's a competition 😅)
Practicing Improvisation (Funk GROOVE Mastery in 5 Minutes | GJ 222) (Day 1596 - 1602, Week 230)
Hello all. My name is Steven and I have been playing guitar for over 10 years now. It first started as a hobby then I eventually took it as a career. I graduated from a conservatory as a classical guitarist but it has always been my dream to play jazz, blues, or any other genre with a full knowledge to what I'm playing.
Tho you might expect that I should be better than this due to my degree, but to me, improvisation is something that you have to work harder on if it's not your talent to begin with. I don't have perfect pitch, and I'm still not creative enough when improvising. I do know my notes, and my music theory, but as you can see, I still cannot apply all of those straight away on t...

so can you tell us the chords in the description orrrrr?
Orrrr you can just watch the video man. I mentioned the chords there 😅 I mean cmon man, instead of complaining why no one is putting the food in your mouth, maybe, juuust maybe, try spending a bit of effort and pick up the spoon yourself? 😅 This video is not really a song tutorial. It’s more of like a vlog about my ear training and I’m just being nice enough to share you guys what I figured out. And yes, I’d rather reply to you than put the chords in the description 😅 sorry man. Cheers 🍻
Notice how this response was a bit more that 4 chords right? A lot like your content. If beating around the bush is a person it’s you
@ I’d deadass subscribe if you made it easy but nah let me scroll through 30 min of shit that doesn’t apply to me. All I wanted was the chords. Stop crying after posting yourself online
How did it sounded like I cried? Man, you think I actually do this to have a subscriber like you who doesn’t even have the patience to scroll through a video and just want everything to be put right into his mouth? I’d rather beat around the bush than be like you who doesn’t even know how to figure out a song, found the answer, and still complain. Your sense of entitlement is off the charts man. Screw your subscription 😀
@@christevenvalenzuela4061 that the internet buddy. You think everyone wants to waste 15 min so you can just ramble?
I love that u still haven't been discourage I watch your videos sometimes to see what I can become and wow ive got a really long way to go and im excited to become like you one day man well done
Thank you so much! Kind words like yours helps me a lot with my sanity, but the mean ones, instead of being discouraged, are the ones that really helps me to push even more 😅 I still have a long way to go to! Just keep pushing man. Eventually it will accumulate into something 💪 see you at the peak! 😀🍻
Thank you , chords worked perfectly. Can you teach solo at the end ?
Top tier good at what you do 100% for real is there any way you could play love song for a dead man
Hey thanks man! I’ll see what I can do for my next week’s ear training 😅👍
@ your welcome and thanks man appreciate it
Smoooooooth
Thank you! ❤️😅
I would love tabs for this if you could!
Good job Bro! Try, "Save Me". I really like ''Hero".
Thank you! I’ll give “Save Me” a shot this week 👍 Hopefully I can handle it 😅
I'm basically you but nowhere near as good as to have a degree in classical music but I only achieved grade 8 in classical a couple of years back. I have the exact same problem as you used to have, never learning improv so when people ask me to jam I am much worse than i seem. I also didn't fee like a musician because although i can sight read sheet music, play melodies by ear etc, if someone asked to jam with me i couldn't do it without sounding like ass. Ironic enough this situation of someone asking to jam with me is what made me realise why I wanted to learn guitar. I am currently around this stage you are in this video and thought there was some specific info or theory I was missing but seeing your most recent video has just made me realise it really is just as simple as putting the work in each day and staying consistent.
Hey man, you nailed it. Even though I have a degree in classical guitar, I was also still feeling like as if I still cannot play what I want. The discipline is just different, and that’s why I started trying to practice and learn how to improvise. There are some times that some people still think too little of me and expect so much because of my degree and how much days/hours and videos I have posted here on yt. But the point of my videos is not to show off, but to show to everyone that no matter how small my improvements are every video, as long as I keep going and stay consistent, eventually it will accumulate to something. I’m hoping for your “Day 1” soon man! I’m sure you can do it 🍻
Sounds amazing! Keep it up man!
Hey man thank you so much! 🙇♂️ I still have a long way to go 😅 but I really appreciate the kind words 🍻
Nakaka inspire ka Steven, keep it up
Uy potek. Hahaha salamat pre! 😅❤️🙇♂️
Hi! Is there any way you can show the guitar tabs?
Nah you are not focusing on any chord tones. Study the backing track, find the chords, find their triads on the neck and target those on chord changes. Right now it sounds awful sorry buddy. Hope this comment helps, let me know if you want yt resources.
Hey thanks man. I really appreciate the honesty. I never claim that I’m very good at this hence the videos of my practice sessions haha. I’m still trying my best to always hit the chord tones but it has been really quite challenging 😅 Send me those resources man! I’m sure it would be a huge help! 🙇♂️

Thank you so much! 😅 I agree! She is great! 😀
That's sickkk😍
Hello Sir, you do the GREAT job. I'm impressed. I wonder if you could take a look at a song called "Push comes to shove" by Aerosmith. I've been trying to figured the chords out for many years. Best wishes 👍
Hello! Sure man 😀 I’ll see what I can do for next week 👍 Thank you 🍻
please can you learn “by and by” made by fog lake! I love this song
Hey sure! I’ll try give it a shot for my next video next week 👍😀
Good work man... although I am hearing the second chord in the verse as A6sus (which is like DMaj / A)
That chord can also work man 👍 Since this is clearly played by more than one guitar 😀 Thank you! 🍻
you can write the chords plss, awesome job sound exactly the same broo
Great Video! Could you teach us how you strum so well?
Sounds awesome what chord are you playing that uses only the higher strings?
Hi! It’s the same chords as the ones I said in this video 😀 Just simplified, and all you have to do is just press the higher strings from your bar chords 😀
calmmmm
Salamat dude was hoping there would be a tutorial of sorts.
You’re welcome po! So sorry but the point of this video is not really a tutorial for the song 😅 but just really an ear training for me and just sharing what l did 😅
Just saw this thank you sounds amazing
You’re welcome, man! I’m glad I was able to help 👍😀
Never stop
I will not. Thank you! 🙇♂️
hello! back at an ungodly hour, but I found this out while listening to the chords myself! Please consider the following chords on your next listen--I think they're closer to the song. I hope this helps cus it also took me some time! My main chord suggestions happen in the Choruses and the Instrumental after the bridge part that goes Bm7 , C#m7 , Dmaj7 , E7. There's a small change at the bottom of this comment that isn't as big a deal as the changes in the chorus and especially the instrumental. Enjoy! Chorus: E , Gmaj7 E Gmaj7, A E , Gmaj7 E Gmaj7 A Verse: Bm7... You'll see that the chorus chords lead up nicely to the Bm7. The E to G to A to B movement in the bass. Instrumental (of nature's ways): Gmaj7 , Amaj7 Gmaj7 , Amaj7 Gmaj7 , F#m7 , Em7 , F#m7 F7 The distinct part here is the movement in the bass; listen for it. It should go G, F#, E, F# and lead you to that nice Dominant F7 before the final verse. Last Verse : Bm7... Also, consider changing the bass note in the section right before Chorus. 16:38 is the timestamp of what I mean, you could go from F#m7 --> F#m7/C#. Or F#m7 without the bass (so you make the fifth of the chord the root). I also distinctly hear a little hammer-on going from open A --> that C#. So maybe it's better to think of the timestamp as F#m7 --> A/C#. Importantly, these chord changes happen *every* time before the start of a new verse or leading you to chorus. Thanks again and questions encouraged! I love ear training
Oh wow! Hey thank you so much for this, man! I’ll check these suggestions and corrections out once I have the time. I’ll pin this comment of yours also so others can choose whichever sounds better for them! 😀 cheers! 🍻
Good job, Steven!!! It sounds great!!!! 🎧😎🎸🎶🎙
Thank you so much 😅❤️🍻
wow
Thanks for making this! I hope it helps you on your guitar journey as well!
You’re welcome! 😀❤️🍻
Can you do some of midland new album barley blue that would be awesome your really good
Hi! Sure! Since It seems that no one has done it before, I’ll try and see if I can do that song for this week 😅😀
@@christevenvalenzuela4061 thank you 🙏 I appreciate it
Amazing
Amazing like bearded gelvin ❤️
This track is such a jam! Nemahsis is going to be the next huge thing. Nice job on this.
Exactly! I new right away that I’ll be doing this the moment I listened to it. Thank you so much!
sooo goooooooooooddddddddddd!!!!!🔥🔥
Thank you so much! 😅❤️
I really like this song and I don't know much about music, so it's kinda difficult for me but I wanted to play this song 😌 Thank you it was very helpful to me !!! ✌️
You’re welcome! 😀 I’m glad I was able to help! ❤️ Just keep practicing it and eventually it will become easier! 😁🍻
@@christevenvalenzuela4061 I think it's amazing and cool to steadily post videos 🤩 I'll cheer for you! Have a nice day✨
Thank you so much! Have a nice day too! 😀❤️
these chords sound really accurate!
Thank you! This one was quite hard for me 😅
Thanks. I’d like to be able to listen to songs and figure out the chords like that one day. That’s already inspiring. Song request tho, can you please do Juna also by Clairo? Pls pls pls.
Hi. You’re welcome 🙂 just start practicing regularly, and eventually something will click 👍☺️ for that song, as much as I want to do it, I think there are already quite a lot of chord tutorials here on youtube for that one 😅
I love this song, im glad you made a tutorial ❤
You’re welcome 😀 I’m glad I was able to help 👍🍻
I really love new west, love your video!
Thank you! 😀🍻
brother what you are doing is truly exceptional. ive never seen anyone do this ive seen practicing guitar for 30 days and documenting but you've been documenting for 220 weeks thanks you so much for this you are truly showing that practice is the real answer
Thank you so much for your kind words 😅🙇♂️ Even though I do receive some criticism here and there, still, comments like yours really helps me to keep going. Like what I say on every description of my videos, I am fully aware that I’m still far from being a good player. But the goal here is to just keep getting better ☺️ cheers 🍻
Nice i love it
Thank you! 😅🍻
17 minute video and never even explained the picking patterm
Sorry. This video series of mine is not really a guitar tutorial on how to play the song. It is really just an ear training for me and I’m just sharing the chords to you guys 😅 Also, if you cannot even figure out or make your own picking pattern, this song is probably too advanced for you 😅 So maybe instead of complaining why no one is spoon feeding you the answers, maybe try to figure some things out on your own? 😅 I mean, cmon man, the food is just right there.. all you have to do is just pick up the spoon and feed yourself 👍
@@christevenvalenzuela4061 all good man. Im just hassling you. It helped me learn the song🤙
Understood. No worries man. I’m glad I was still able to help 👌🍻
