Doesn't that seem like works righteousness ("so that he may represent himself to them")? I agree that we stand before God on our own, but we also do so in community. Not all elders are teachers; some are ruling elders. The point of the message is that the elders are not to be like civic representatives, bringing complaints before the government; they are to minister the gospel before those entrusted to their care.

@@StPaulsNobleton righteous works dont get you to heaven. Only one thing gets you to heaven. The pharisees also thought that they were the representative's of god before the people.

I think you have a problem thinking god has given you authority over us and has made you a middle man between the people and god. Youre supposed to be a teacher. Rabbi doesnt mean "represents god", which is where your title comes from. Youre supposed to be a teacher and a role model but not a representative. The representation that you have is the representation as the figurehead of your congregation, but thats a worldly representation, not a godly one.

I guess we have different world views! What's yours based on?

I have a question for you, other than eternal damnation (which is a separate can of worms I'd prefer not to get into in a youtube comments section), what do any of those have to do with the gospel?

@@richardlise2271 so the gospel is about salvation? About getting into the kingdom of heaven? U got to follow the rules to get into it. The rules are wat people have problems with. Also, religion isn't just about the gospel.

@@richardlise2271 part of the problem in debating something like this with various people is that not everyone is on the same page.

Jesus loves you. He died and rose again for you. Trust him as Saviour and Lord, and you will spend eternity with him. And live for him today as his disciple. Please find a church near you to love you in community. Peace!

Fair comment - I illustrated with Mary, Joseph and the shepherds as a way of leading to the idea that Jesus is more than Christmas. Of course it’s all about him, and he is more than Christmas. 😊 Merry Christmas!
