Wood-E and Joe
Великобритания
Добавлен 10 окт 2016
Adventures with an all wood and aluminium, all wheel drive one off build, all terrain off road Mobility Scooter.
My beloved three wheeled scooter is a Turner Dragonfly 2.8 GTE ... affectionally know by many as Wood-E.
Wood-E is a home made mobility scooter designed and built by me for both off road adventures and urban use. A total DIY mobility scooter project when I could not find a suitable scooter I designed and built Wood-E to suit my own needs, just for my own use. The main feature is Wood-E's all wheel drive from three very powerful motors. There is a hub motor in each of the three wheels. It is my wish and hope that I can show you the pleasure and enjoyment that can be yours from mobility scooter ownership.
Kind regards J J Turner

..... Cold & Wet - keep warm ....... 'The Secret' .......

Keeping warm this time of the year it is very important especially for all of us who need to use Mobility Scooters. There will be some great days of blue sky sunshine, great for making video's. However this time of the year a good sunny day does not mean its warm, its more likely to be very cold. The right clothes is essential and there is a big secret to staying warm. ... Marino wool.

It's mid October 2024 and the weather can be described as changeable, and very cold. At this time of year sunshine does not necessarily mean its warm enough for a ride in the wild, in fact it's to flippin cold. I did get caught out earlier this morning by thinking I would be OK but the cold really got to me and I had to return home for more layers (thermal long Johns). But the day proved to be ...

I have to say that the Magnificent Monsal trail is well worth a good day out, Hiking, Cycling, Running, or mobility scootering. This is a traffic free, firm trail around 9/10 miles in its full length. That's not the whole story though, there are a number of incredible tunnels that have lighting and well laid tarmac surfaces throughout the full length of each tunnel, and the superb views of the ...

I have to say that I certainly enjoyed the ride on this well made superb trail and travelling though the amazing tunnels. ... Tunnelishush!! ... Could this trail be the best 'Old Rail to New Trail'.

Fun ride over the Chase with a little ragtime thrown in. Wood-E has recently had new motors to replace a damaged motor. This ride was a good opportunity to get a feel for the power the new motors put out. The result .... miles of smiles.

Not all adventures by Wood-E and I go smoothly and without the odd annoyance. On this occasion this is us exploring a new area of Cannock Chase forest that proves just a bit difficult, and an area we are denied access and will not be returning to. Sadly nothing much can be done about the gates, maybe the replacement of the locks with RADAR locks, but the drivers who park cars badly??

This is the second and final part of the Tissington Trail experience by Wood-E and me. This 17/18 mile amazing trail is nothing short of wonderful, in its neat and careful construction and the very well maintained condition. You would need a scooter with a very large battery capacity to do the full length, or you may consider hiring a trike or Tramper scooter. Although if you start at say, Pars...

Just a very ordinary sunny day run out on Wood-E, just for the pleasure of a relaxing ride. 'Lazing on a sunny afternoon'. Starting the lazing, from one of my favourite locations, Cannock's Mill Farm Park following the Heritage trail through the high street of Hednesford town (and Tesco) to the edge of Cannock Chase.

On this part the of the Cannock Chase ride I was so fortunate to come across horses and riders out for a Chase riding experience, and it looks great. This all takes place in the beautiful Sherbrook valley. The trail here is one of the best and if you ever get chance to bring your class 3 for a ride over the Chase then this is possibly the best trail to find.
I truly feel for you on this. But the regulations say "incapable of exceeding a speed of 8 miles per hour". The "issue" is you can switch off the limiter and thus *can* exceed the limit. Obviously we can't be trusted... 🤬 Also why removing the limiter from the controller on a production class 2/3 is not permitted. Another confounding issue is that the Road Traffic Act was updated to include language like 'any publicly accessible place' meaning it can be applied on private land that the public could reasonably get to (irrespective of trespass - a civil offense). I'm from the 4x4 world and this was a major problem, which required 'Authorising Bodies' such as the Motor Sports UK, Assoc Land Rover Clubs, & IOPD to provide Permits for off-road motor events. These Permits allow certain activities to be exempt from the RTAct. So the mobility scooter that could have the 8mph limiter off would break the RTA wherever you use it. The fact that even an unfit cyclist could exceed 8mph doesn't matter. Though the 19th century offense of 'wanton and furiously riding' was recently used against a cyclist who seriously injured a pedestrian.
Joe anyone with any sense can see that you are careful around people. I have a TGA Breeze S4 which I ride lots on roads and also paths. This is a UK scooter that meets all the regulations and I am almost always walking my dog. However I also have the number plate on the back has this gets me less abuse from road users. However when I use this on paths and ex railway line cycle paths I have had people ring the national park complaining. The wardens know that Im allowed and have no problems. The only thing that I can say about Woody Joe that might be a problem is that UK mobility scooters should not exceed 8mph even going down a very steep slope. UK scooters have automatic regenerative breaking that prevents them from exceeding 4 / 8 mph even down a very steep slope. All the best Joe and hope to see more videos soon.
Joe you and wood E are so respectful of others on the trails,I can't believe they are doing this to you we all in the mobility scooter family know wood E is built for tourk for climbing hills the government are trying too control everyone and everything it's happing here in the USA as well if there is anything we can do to help we are here for you and wood E your friend vinnie from the United States of America good luck and we will wait for your next video 👍😎
Hi Joe, greetings from the Netherlands..
That was very interesting.New Zealand is not as cold as the UK but we have our moments but we sre beginning Spring and warmer weather and lot've sunshine
Very interesting Joe. What about footwear? Wellingtons are waterproof but can be cold. Any ideas?
Warm boots
cost a packet for the long John's Irene, can't afford footwear yet, but food for thought. Joe
i find walking/hiking boots perfect on a scooter.
Fantastic
Hi Joe, you certainly live in a beautiful area. Do you know if anyone hires mobility scooters and if there is accommodation in the forest area?, thanks, Irene
You can hire a 4 wheel tramper Irene from the Marquise centre. and I am sure there is accommodation. Well worth a visit, regards Joe.
Thank you 😀
Great video
What a fantastic job the bygone train drivers had, to see these views in all weathers .
Pure Joy ! 40 yrs ago, coach from London, I youth hostelled on foot, offroad. I remember Blustone Caves etc and Lakedidtrict Great Gable area. I see a multimotor kit for e-bikes etc at Grin Technologies, ruclips.net/user/liveUb4EP2_mAds?si=xN2dCCIEFy57D0k- You mentioned the pain of multi controller wiring so I'm looking it up. cheers !
Imagine my 140kg TramperTWS getting on/off your operating table ! Sheesh you would need an electric winch. Happy re-Birthday to Wood-e and his midwife.
Off to a flying start ! Where do you get the leather (tools or sandwiches?) bag ?
May i ask what make and model your scooter is as i can't find it anywhere i was looking at the teverun but it is to wide for my storage thank you
Thanks Stephen, Wood-E was designed and built by me. After looking for a scooter that suited me I just could not afford any of the good off roaders. So I built one, and as it happens I have to say I'm glad I could not afford one as Wood-E is far better than any factory made one, regards Joe.
@@joeturner4woode thank you for the update i read our profile i have a nanrobot d5 at the minute but i need 4 wheels you have a grate little scooter there
it looks like a really great place for a ride out and with some friendly and helpful people too. But what a pain that there are so many flipping gates. Are they there to control cattle? Or sheep?
A few years ago it was free range cattle Jeannie, but these gates although not needed are still in place. Regards Joe.
Nice little ride that but much more enjoyable slowed down to 0.75 speed 😉
Slow down???? Had to test out the power and have to say that's the enjoyment for me.
@@joeturner4woode I wa trying to make it last longer Joe
Bit naughty of them using different locks 😐, Do you have anti-puncture tyres on there Joe?...was just wondering with all the sharp twigs you might come across.
Front is an inner tube and the rear are tubeless ... have got a can of squirt in stuff from Halford's, just in case. Joe.
Great ! How come the camera is as smooth on rough ground as on tarmac ?
Its an Insta 360 dm it has an extremely good image stabilisation capability. Better that a GoPro that I used before. regards Joe.
@@joeturner4woode What model Insta360 are you using? Great vids!
I got it though an offer on Amazon John, its the basic Insta360 with a standard lens. Not the 360 degree lens one. I do find it very good. regards Joe.
Love the very fitting music you choose Joe.
Frustrating to say the least.
Awesome.
Looks like it rained a bit
Just damp really Anne, Joe.
Wow what inspiration for building your Wood-E ! 😳
There is no livestock! what are all the gates for?
Great video, will head up to the trail and give it a go myself. Any chance you could add locations to the video as we are watching. Not sure of how to video edit. Look forward to more videos of your exploits.
It's a good idea Russ, but I haven't got a clue how to do it. At my age, 74, I'm happy I remembered to put the memory card in. Regards Joe.
You should email the local council about the barriers Sustrans has good documentation you can send them
Thank you Joe, that passed a gloomy wet afternoon x
aww love that little furry friend
How fast were you travelling,? seemed fast but what a super view
Wow
is it normal to have all those gates etc, and what is the purpose if it is meant to be a trail for cyclists and mobility users. Do you get a lot of trail bikes or similar, and would the gates slow them down?
I think it's animal control Sheila, for me it's those 'kissing gates' that can be a problem. Regards Joe.
Isn't it funny how dog walkers can be fined for not picking up their dogs droppings up and Horse owners get away with it 🤔
Just heard your bike bell Joe, always a good idea to have one of them on the trails (y)
For sure!
Awesome ride joe, unfortunately do to health issues haven't been on the trail yet but I will next month for sure, for now I just watch you and wood E and it .makes my day, thanks joe and wood E your friend from the United States😎👍
Great vid, very inspirational. Might be a bit out of your way (North Wales) but take a look at The Mawddach Trail. I've personally walked it several times. Around ten miles of footpath as smooth as you like and perfect for a mobility scooter or bycycle as I myself now use. Highly recommend and one of the most beautiful sections of pathway I've ever used.
Will have a look at that Ian, sounds very good, regards Joe.
what an absolutely stunning village. You are making me want to upgrade my motors!!! 😆
Nice runout Joe 👍
How did you glue the camera tro your head?
Stapled on Stephen, ..... no really the cameras mount is pop riveted to the peak of a horse riding hat I use. I did try other ways but find this is the best. Regards Joe.
Love your shadow, it looks like you are a darlek
I think they would look better in chrome..😀

Loved the page turn transition. I have to find that option for my own videos. Beautiful video, the weather looked perfect, loved the clouds. It is very similar to our Rails to Trails in PA US without the gates. Are the gates to stop pedestrian traffic at roads or for animals?
We are so lucky to have inherited such great trails, most date back to the 18 hundreds with very impressive structures along the way. I think the gates are for animal control. Regards Joe.
