We encapsulate a 18 volt, 70 watt, 36 cell, 3 x 6 Poly solar panel using QSIL 216. I demonstrate the method I found that produces the best results and is easiest to duplicate. Using glass, quality cells, and QSIL 216 you can build a panel that will outperform and out last most panels on the market. With the right pieces you can build a quality panel at a bargain panel price that will produce po...

An easy to follow video demonstrating how to add tab wire to solar cells. Then string those cells in series creating a solar panel. If your building a solar panel watch this video before trying to solder your first wire. This video will save you time and money.

    Hey can I ask which brand of tab-wires did you use here? Why it can automatically stick on the surface of busbars without soldering Sn/Pb wire?

    Question: What is the density of Qsill? I need to mount cells on the inside of a vacuum formed convex acrylic sheet, so I wonder if water on top of the plastic bag sheet can be used in place of the fiberboard used in this video to apply light pressure and prevent the Qsill pooling in the middle of the panel?

    • @העבד
      @העבד 2 года назад

      Water is probably not viscous enough to force the encapsulant sideways against the convex sheet, the encapsulant would still pool in the middle. If trying to do this, you would need something with viscosity above 4000 cps (water is 1 cps). but even then -your viscous liquid will pool in the middle and force a bell curve distribution of force against the convex shape and the encapsulant. I would use another convex solid sheet that is identical to the front convex sheet, and have the encapsulant sandwiched in between, that way you would be able to ensure pretty uniform distribution of the encapsulant across the convex sheet. Then after the encapsulant hardens (~2 days) you could remove your convex back-sheet.

    • @Tore_Lund
      @Tore_Lund 2 года назад

      Looked it up. Qsill has a density of 1.03, so it is going to pool under a bag of water.

    The tab wire moves in all directions when you try to solder. It's not that easy.

    Most Platinum based silicone is 10:1, but there are other ratios. Most importantly, never use platinum based with anything that has been used with tin based silicone or chlorinated rubber, as it will never cure properly. I would assume that means cleaning all of the flux off of all the solder joints so that organic tin does not come into contact with the silicone.

    Hi Mark, Looking at the back side of the cell:-I am using flux pen.The right line was taped well and the middle line all 3 small strips were not tapped. I tried again . not tapped. I tried with a new tapping bar, still not tapped and now the three strips in the middle line are look like burned and black in colour. I did not tried the left line yet. Is there any way to clean the black line? or the cell is still good to use with left and right lines are tapped?

    I have bought solar cell DIY kit couple years ago, but never made it because that encapsulation stuff was so expensive. I checked again after watching this video. Prices were still way too high. I could buy ready made panels with the price of that liquid only! Ridiculous. :D Do you know (much) cheaper alternative to QSIL 216 or other "official stuff" that is made for this? Seems that I can't never ever complete the kit if price is this high.. at least when shipped to finland. Checked from EBAY several encap. liquids and they were all out of my range, if not the the stuff itself, but after adding 30-50 EUR shipping costs they were.

    Hi Mark when you say face I assume you mean face of the cell? The gap between the cells is so the wire can go down to the back side of the next cell

  • @RoyAndrews82

    Couldn't you tin the face of the solar panel, then lay down the tabbing wire onto the face of the solar pannel, without a 1/8" gap?

    We are providing new frames now that solved this issue available at americansolarsupply.com and on ebay. We also will be marketing a new kit in the next week that uses EVA. Ive been working on the best method for curing EVA in the home, school, and lab environment. It will be a 15 volt 20 watt kit that will fit in the oven. Normal build time is 2-3 hours. I am working on the video right now. Please visit our new sales sight as we are re-building the company from the bottom up Americansolarsupply.com.

    Great video guys! One minor criticism - you spent so much time perfecting this process, but I noticed that your frame looks a little too narrow, it appears that the edges of the solar cells will be shaded by the aluminum frame. don't want to be picky, and I will be following your advice on my own DIY panels... Thanks again!
