I'll be focusing on Prehistoric Kingdom, a video game developed by Blue Meridian Studio and published by Crytivo that is a modern take on the tycoon simulator genre. With let's play, tutorial, and speed build videos, along with whatever other formats help me explore the game's myriad possibilities and help other people find and enjoy the game.
CA Paleopark 13 | Megaloceros Moves In | Prehistoric Kingdom
Today we shift classes of animal in California Paleopark. Megalosaurus moves in! The giant deer is tolerant of Temperate climes so it's suitable for this coastal park and so it becomes mammal number 3 in the park.
Prehistoric Kingdom (PK) is a modern take on the tycoon simulator genre, focused on the creation and management of a prehistoric-themed zoo. It is a construction and management simulation video game developed by Blue Meridian and published by Crytivo that is currently in the early access (EA) stage of development.

Love the creative mix of Coastal and Temperate foliage for this.Glorious enclosure as always
Thanks!
Really like what you did with these enclosures, but wont the velos jump on the rocks and escape?for some reason my velos managed to jump on a super tall rock wall and escaped. Also, what are your opinions on the upcoming terrarium animals?im super excited,on the trello the update with those fellas is filled with mystery creatures (i assume all are going to be terrarium) And also dont worry, no speedbuilds is fine, just the showcase is fine (in my opinion at least)
That's the result of a pathing bug. Hopefully they fixed it with the latest patch.
The animal navigation heat map says they can't traverse them. That said, velociraptor and other small rig dinos are notorious for phasing through rocks/walls and wandering about.
Have you experienced the bug where both species of lion have the in-development cub skin?
I haven't been working in parks with lions since the bug started up.

Love the way the rain glistens on the rocks and the critters!
And soon they will stop doing in the nursery screen
Not gonna lie,the way you implemented a non-coastal animal in a coastal park is pretty brilliant,it fits in perfectly. Also the rumored Galli might be true,on the wiki fandom ,in the update info area, it says that galli will be in update 14 so its kinda cool
Thanks! The devs teased a head shot of Gallimimus a while ago but didn't get specific about arrival time. They are supposed to be updating the trello, probably on dev log day at the end of the month. Maybe we'll get some solid information on when Galli will be dropping in.
@@dinobob5401 nice!
Ooh that wheelchair lift I hadn't seen before! I love how modest it looks and it would fit in many smaller buildings and viewing areas. Would much appreciate if you uploaded it to the workshop As a point of minor critique, the rock cliff pieces look a bit too uniform and detract from the interesting views into the back of the habitat. I suggest using other rock shapes to break it up, or strew around smaller boulders on the ground in front
I'll put an upload on my to do list Honestly I haven't been given the rocks as much attention as I ought to. I've gotten too focussed on getting habitats in to move the park from 4 to 5 stars. The new park rating system gets quite steep after 4 stars.
@NewAge374 uploaded the wheelchair lift to steam. Or at least the game told me that I did.
@ Oh right, the challenge of getting park ratings up. I don't care for that a lot honestly. Maybe I will once the system feels more robust
@@NewAge374 It got a better with update 13. A lot better. But there's still a long haul between 4 and 5 particularly, for me, meeting the animal species and ratings numbers.
The running staffer at the start was a nice little event! And the markings on all three critters look especially cool by moonlight.
They do sometimes get caught on camera
Enclosures looking good as always. Where are you planning to make the next park?(after this one is done of course)
Thanks! I'm thinking about using the temperate map.
@@dinobob5401 thought so,especially after that new temperate foliage rework, good luck!
@@FantikSalmakii The new foliage is a plus, but not the deciding factor
What a lovely park! There aren't many people that show off their builds on RUclips. Happy to see it :)
Glad you are liking it
Do the female and male Rexes seem to show any awareness of each other, outside breeding season? Also, I like the increasing animation of the guests (turning heads, etc.)
Animal socializing is due in the next update and breeding even further down the timeline. Guests have been getting better, often without the devs announcing they've made changes. The big one in the last update was having them actually be more motivated to go and look at the animals. Belated, but welcome!
This might be my favourite park series of yours,i just love the redwood habitats you make. Also the rock in redwood trees technique that you mentioned in the ankylosaurus video really helped me.Thanks! Also happy new year :)
Glad you're enjoying it! The redwood map just has a great vibe to it. I felt that way about the Planet Zoo one, too.
I’m inclined to think that the Ursus habitat feels cramped, no matter that it’s comparable to a zoo enclosure. But no matter, I want to hear what he sounds like!
Alas, for reasons I don't understand the game sounds are currently not translating over in the videos, despite having previously done so.
I think that the Ursus habitat is just perfect in size, when i was in a zoo the bears lived in a similar if not smaller habitat size, and all looked happy. Also hope your gonna get well!
Didn't I note that the size was similar to real world exhibits? I meant to. Of course, with real world exhibits one can't always tell how much more space the animals have in off-exhibit holdings.Anyway, I tend to have a preference for seeing animals in more than the minimal required space.
@@dinobob5401 understandable
This is definitely an inspiration for my park. I just got the game and I'm testing the waters using a sandbox park. I tend to oversize my exhibits, so it's nice to see that even some larger dinosaurs can be happy in a smaller enclosure. Will definitely take that into consideration should I start a proper challenge park.
The space animals need to be happy has changed a couple of times over the course of early access and recently there's been a downsizing for a lot of animals. I think Anlylososuarus arrived while they had smaller space requirements coming up. It might change again as the devs tinker with game balance.
i really like what you did with the ground and the fire torches, might have to steal that idea for myself👀
Thanks!
The viewing deck is nicely incorporated into the rock cliffs!
Thanks!
Awesome as always
Thanks!
Love the dancing edmontosauruses!
Rockin' on!
Nice that you showed off the model tweaks for the Edmontosaurus! This habitat looks promising, less squished together than other multi-species habitats of yours I've seen. The water feature and open plain behind it makes it look deeper than it this
I wanted something akin to the waterhole scene from the original Jurassic Park. Glad it worked for you.
yeah, the fact that its so difficult to get high ratings in challenge parks right now is very annoying.I had a park with coelophysis, scelidosaurus, psittacosaurus, parasaurolophus w.,the big and small lambeosaurus, styracosaurus, and like 12-14 pantheras, ankylosaurus, edmontosaurus a.,both triceratops, and t.rex and had like either 2 stars or 1.5 stars. And also i love the viewing are for the guests! You are the person that inspires me to build big projects in prehistoric kingdom most of the time♥
The upcoming update has a significant rework to the park rating stuff. I'm looking forward to it.
W anky
The Ankylosaurus looks beautiful! Great addition to the game
I think so. i like the revised skins much better than the" trading are 50" skins.
The Island-style enclosure is actually really inspiring,i might try doing something similar for Deinocheirus! Also do you have any advice as for making paths on hills? When making my california park thats what i struggled with the most
Paths on hills? Try not to?
Seriously, it's tricky. Best I have been able to do is make them before there in anything near them. Flatten several "steps" that are at least twice as wide as the intended path., then smooth them together. Add path. Re-shape the terrain around the path. Obviously preexisting water, fences, paths, and buildings with Respect buildings" checked will interfere with this process.
@@dinobob5401 Thanks you so much !❤
@@FantikSalmakii np
Love the patterning on the new cat!
It's pretty sharp
I notice that the uncleared forest has no undergrowth, which gives it an open and park-like feel. Is this a bug or a feature?
It's what the devs supplied. I suspect the lack of ground cover beyond grass is mostly a convenience for park builders; that, and too much foliage gets very computer intensive and doesn't work well with less muscle-y machines.
This looks so good!Have you seen the brand new devdiary for october?I think it's pretty neat
Thanks! I have seen it. The new building menus are going to take some getting used to.
Will you add the Paracetherium? I know there is a Juxia in the park, but I am talking about their Gigantic cousin
Their preferred habitats do not include boreal, so likely not in this zoo as their size would mean extensive facilities for getting them through the winter.
Yeah, you're showing off that same building but with different uses. It provides enough space for most of the small animals while allowing for interesting interiors. Putting guest amenities in there works too, though I think they would have had a second floor for offices or staff rooms.
Certainly a second floor could be an option. There's a lot of backstage space on the right side of the building, just ground floor though.
It's unfortunate the Juxia hitbox is the same as Paraceratherium, which is oversized as well; they will not use the hard shelter. Devs need to get onto that also bearing in mind babies, who definitely shouldn't use their adult size hitboxes
That seems to have changed. These Juxia can and do enter the building in the park.
@@dinobob5401 Ooh that's great news!
The variegated autumnal foliage adds a lot of visual interest. Can you control the distribution of color?
To an extent. It's the same tree model with two tress in exactly the same place; one is standard leaf color and the other the autumn variant. More or less of one color shows when you rotate one of them to various degrees. The look breaks down when you zoom in, but it makes a fair impression of a tree in the midst of leaf color change.
Using rocks as habitat barriers is a nice tactic and you've done quite well in this one without making the crack patterns look repetitive. But having snow on top of the rocks but not on the ground inside the habitat or on the path, looks jarring to me. You've used regular rocks in other habitats in this park, why not extend it over here as well?
The rocks on either side of the crossover don’t look high enough to restrain a determined critter from getting over them! Also, the visitors look more animated, turning heads, pointing, smiling. Is that new?
Steadily more animations are edited to the guests!
Careful study of the animals' paths and areas they reach was made before committing to the rock shapes and heights, according to the park's publicity department. [I checked whether the animals could climb out using the in-game tool for that.] As NewAge notes, then guests have been getting more animations. They look toward enclosures in several ways now, sometimes even through rocks and walls.
Love the bearded guys! In the background of the dancing edmontosaur, I thought I saw a keeper leaving the enclosure and closing a gate behind them. True? If so, very cool.
Staff gates are a recent add to the game. Staff can use them but guests cannot.
I’m surprised by the casual structure of the enclosure - less than (human) head-high and with no stand-off inside. How are the residents kept inside? Or the visitors kept out?
This is an awesome structure! I love the use of wood for aviaries, but it's sometimes hard to make it look convincing . If you don't publish this on the workshop I will steal the idea and make my own!
Thanks! I have been working with a modified version of it for another part of the zoo and discovered that way more of the pieces are just off alignment that I'd like. There's work to be dome before uploading it. Do you think it would be a better upload with or without the foliage, rocks, feeders, hay beds, and/or mini aviaries
@@dinobob5401 Yeah, I get the alignment issue but that shouldn't prevent you from uploading. It's actually why I always build on world grid before moving into place. I'd say it's more versatile without foliage. But if you're particular proud of the interior you can do a couple of things: upload two versions (one with complete interior, one with bare minimum); upload the interior separately and provide instructions to line up both; or ¨slide¨ the indoor outside the building but upload it as one file, then people can either slide it back inside or delete just parts.
@@NewAge374 I cleaned up the building and uploaded, complete with interior, as "Exhibit Barn."
@@dinobob5401 Awesome, will check it out!
What are those structures atop the psitticasaurs’ tails? They look almost like hairs, but are much too thick and stiff
They are usually described as quills.
Excellent use of sightlines and hiding the back fence of the mammoth habitat! That tall boundary marker looks intriguing, as if it would serve an actual purpose. That greenhouse looks convincingly simple too, though would have to be upscaled for realism. Since you are playing challenge (or sandbox with these settings) do you feel that the amount of food producing stations is manageably low or would it benefit from requiring more facilities to be more realistic with how fast food can be grown?
It's hard to get a handle on how much food production is enough in game, especially with the way the staff operate right now. But you're right, the space given over to production of food in the modules is way too tiny.
The silhouettes outside the first enclosure don’t work well. The doubling of the tusks makes the mammoths look as though they have bizarre loopy growths coming out of their heads!
They are what the devs provided.
Those very strong ribs inside the roof are terrific.
Quick question:Does smilodon jump?i never made an enclosure for it so i dont really know much about the animal. Im worried it will jump on that tall fencing and escape. Also the enclosures turned out really good!
No animals jump tab this time. Jumping is something the devs have on their to do list, so maybe someday. It''s an open question as to what sort of anti-jumping measures, if any, they will introduce. That said, I imagine those habitats walls have hot wire near their tops (something that would be invisible almost all the time if I bothered to add modular pieces to simulate it.)
Is the animation preliminary or still in development? The walking motion looks very crude.
Everything is still subject to tuning up, The big cats are particularly prone to glide-walking atm and these cats are having issues with the, admittedly, steep slopes. and patly through the edge of openings in modular walls.
I am glad you didn't use the massive redwoods in this habitat and make it look more like a wooded wetland. Part of the challenge of making habitats look unique is also leaving out certain foliage. Also like the cozy guest path with all the wooden elements and short foliage.
Glad you like the take.
Yes finally some pk content thank you
That's all I do. Thanks for dropping by!
Just a question: were their snowy winters in the dinosaur park formation ?
In a 2018 paper, Bamforth and Koppelhus concluded that "According to the Köppen Climate Classification System (Köppen, 1936; Esssenwager, 2001), this places Dinosaur Provincial Park within a ‘mesothermal’ environment classification, defined as a climate in which the temperature during the coldest month is less than 13°C. Subtropical climates (a subdivision of mesothermal climates) are characterized by a temperature range of 6-13°C during the coldest month, and an average temperature greater than 22°C during the warmest month. With a cold month mean temperature of 5.1°C, the paleoenvironment of Dinosaur Provincial Park falls just within this range." They did note that further research would be useful in clarifying a number of matters.
no
That's just a giant tapir 😂
Juxia is more closely related to rhinos. It is an odd-toed ungulate like tapirs, but then horses are odd-tired ungulates as well
That’s a hell of an overbite! But seriously, the woven panels on the shelter are excellent.
Am I right that the bridge allows the critters to choose freely whether they’re on- or off-exhibit?
