I'll be focusing on Prehistoric Kingdom, a video game developed by Blue Meridian Studio and published by Crytivo that is a modern take on the tycoon simulator genre. With let's play, tutorial, and speed build videos, along with whatever other formats help me explore the game's myriad possibilities and help other people find and enjoy the game.
Lake Wainwright 11 | Destination Djadochta 2: Protoceratops and Psittacosaurus | Prehistoric Kingdom
We're back at Destination Djadochta in Lake Wainwright Paleopark for this video, adding two animals to this multi-habitat complex. It's double marginocephalia with a basal form, Psittacosaurus, and a more derived genus, Protoceratops, who more clearly displays why the group is named for the margins of their heads with its prominent frill.

Will you add the Paracetherium? I know there is a Juxia in the park, but I am talking about their Gigantic cousin
Their preferred habitats do not include boreal, so likely not in this zoo as their size would mean extensive facilities for getting them through the winter.
Yeah, you're showing off that same building but with different uses. It provides enough space for most of the small animals while allowing for interesting interiors. Putting guest amenities in there works too, though I think they would have had a second floor for offices or staff rooms.
Certainly a second floor could be an option. There's a lot of backstage space on the right side of the building, just ground floor though.
It's unfortunate the Juxia hitbox is the same as Paraceratherium, which is oversized as well; they will not use the hard shelter. Devs need to get onto that also bearing in mind babies, who definitely shouldn't use their adult size hitboxes
That seems to have changed. These Juxia can and do enter the building in the park.
@@dinobob5401 Ooh that's great news!
The variegated autumnal foliage adds a lot of visual interest. Can you control the distribution of color?
To an extent. It's the same tree model with two tress in exactly the same place; one is standard leaf color and the other the autumn variant. More or less of one color shows when you rotate one of them to various degrees. The look breaks down when you zoom in, but it makes a fair impression of a tree in the midst of leaf color change.
Using rocks as habitat barriers is a nice tactic and you've done quite well in this one without making the crack patterns look repetitive. But having snow on top of the rocks but not on the ground inside the habitat or on the path, looks jarring to me. You've used regular rocks in other habitats in this park, why not extend it over here as well?
The rocks on either side of the crossover don’t look high enough to restrain a determined critter from getting over them! Also, the visitors look more animated, turning heads, pointing, smiling. Is that new?
Steadily more animations are edited to the guests!
Careful study of the animals' paths and areas they reach was made before committing to the rock shapes and heights, according to the park's publicity department. [I checked whether the animals could climb out using the in-game tool for that.] As NewAge notes, then guests have been getting more animations. They look toward enclosures in several ways now, sometimes even through rocks and walls.
Love the bearded guys! In the background of the dancing edmontosaur, I thought I saw a keeper leaving the enclosure and closing a gate behind them. True? If so, very cool.
Staff gates are a recent add to the game. Staff can use them but guests cannot.
I’m surprised by the casual structure of the enclosure - less than (human) head-high and with no stand-off inside. How are the residents kept inside? Or the visitors kept out?
This is an awesome structure! I love the use of wood for aviaries, but it's sometimes hard to make it look convincing . If you don't publish this on the workshop I will steal the idea and make my own!
Thanks! I have been working with a modified version of it for another part of the zoo and discovered that way more of the pieces are just off alignment that I'd like. There's work to be dome before uploading it. Do you think it would be a better upload with or without the foliage, rocks, feeders, hay beds, and/or mini aviaries
@@dinobob5401 Yeah, I get the alignment issue but that shouldn't prevent you from uploading. It's actually why I always build on world grid before moving into place. I'd say it's more versatile without foliage. But if you're particular proud of the interior you can do a couple of things: upload two versions (one with complete interior, one with bare minimum); upload the interior separately and provide instructions to line up both; or ¨slide¨ the indoor outside the building but upload it as one file, then people can either slide it back inside or delete just parts.
@@NewAge374 I cleaned up the building and uploaded, complete with interior, as "Exhibit Barn."
@@dinobob5401 Awesome, will check it out!
What are those structures atop the psitticasaurs’ tails? They look almost like hairs, but are much too thick and stiff
They are usually described as quills.
Excellent use of sightlines and hiding the back fence of the mammoth habitat! That tall boundary marker looks intriguing, as if it would serve an actual purpose. That greenhouse looks convincingly simple too, though would have to be upscaled for realism. Since you are playing challenge (or sandbox with these settings) do you feel that the amount of food producing stations is manageably low or would it benefit from requiring more facilities to be more realistic with how fast food can be grown?
It's hard to get a handle on how much food production is enough in game, especially with the way the staff operate right now. But you're right, the space given over to production of food in the modules is way too tiny.
The silhouettes outside the first enclosure don’t work well. The doubling of the tusks makes the mammoths look as though they have bizarre loopy growths coming out of their heads!
They are what the devs provided.
Those very strong ribs inside the roof are terrific.
Quick question:Does smilodon jump?i never made an enclosure for it so i dont really know much about the animal. Im worried it will jump on that tall fencing and escape. Also the enclosures turned out really good!
No animals jump tab this time. Jumping is something the devs have on their to do list, so maybe someday. It''s an open question as to what sort of anti-jumping measures, if any, they will introduce. That said, I imagine those habitats walls have hot wire near their tops (something that would be invisible almost all the time if I bothered to add modular pieces to simulate it.)
Is the animation preliminary or still in development? The walking motion looks very crude.
Everything is still subject to tuning up, The big cats are particularly prone to glide-walking atm and these cats are having issues with the, admittedly, steep slopes. and patly through the edge of openings in modular walls.
I am glad you didn't use the massive redwoods in this habitat and make it look more like a wooded wetland. Part of the challenge of making habitats look unique is also leaving out certain foliage. Also like the cozy guest path with all the wooden elements and short foliage.
Glad you like the take.
Yes finally some pk content thank you
That's all I do. Thanks for dropping by!
Just a question: were their snowy winters in the dinosaur park formation ?
In a 2018 paper, Bamforth and Koppelhus concluded that "According to the Köppen Climate Classification System (Köppen, 1936; Esssenwager, 2001), this places Dinosaur Provincial Park within a ‘mesothermal’ environment classification, defined as a climate in which the temperature during the coldest month is less than 13°C. Subtropical climates (a subdivision of mesothermal climates) are characterized by a temperature range of 6-13°C during the coldest month, and an average temperature greater than 22°C during the warmest month. With a cold month mean temperature of 5.1°C, the paleoenvironment of Dinosaur Provincial Park falls just within this range." They did note that further research would be useful in clarifying a number of matters.
no
That's just a giant tapir 😂
Juxia is more closely related to rhinos. It is an odd-toed ungulate like tapirs, but then horses are odd-tired ungulates as well
That’s a hell of an overbite! But seriously, the woven panels on the shelter are excellent.
Am I right that the bridge allows the critters to choose freely whether they’re on- or off-exhibit?
very nice Just found your channel. Good to be seeing more people doing PK builds on RUclips.
Thanks for stopping by.
I like the grass roof on the care building!
I want that to be a feature of this park
I actually like the slow build better - it lets you talk more about the thinking behind your decisions.
True enough, but the bit I did in this one was a fraction of the time it took to build the whole habitat, the shelter and the viewing fencing. Alas, RUclips doesn't;t want someone with as few viewers as me making videos that long.
Smart move to raise the terrain in the back so the small critters are more visible. Good alternative to crowding the habitat
That's a common practice in modern zoos and not just for small animals. Of course, most modern animals are "small" in PK terms.
The coloration and animation of those very long tails are great!
Isn't it just
The enclosure looks surprisingly small, even for an animal of this size. What will happen if you add another?
It is actually well over the size recommended in the game's paleopedia. Usually I go bigger than the currently recommended sizes (many of which are much smaller than previous recommendations) but I wanted a small "teaser" sort of habitat for this one.
A new park! Will this be themed to anything in particular?
fF anything, I guess it's a modern zoo-style presentation with an eco slant.
“Elebbin”.
Yup
Can you please put the entrance on the workshop
Apparently I can. They are up as Guest Arrival, starter and Guest Tickets, starter
@@dinobob5401 brilliant great videos
This viewing building is pretty big but you don't notice it so much because the walls from where you approach it is broken up: pretty clever! The habitat definitely looks good in surface area and the lake turned out really nice with the different depths. I think I would have used more greener patches of ground texture to paint around shrubs and trees to not create this large sand expanse. It's equally jarring to me seeing different ground textures between exhibits as seeing vastly different foliage. I will correct you on the size of this species of Camarasaurus: the smallest in game are C. grandis, while the medium variant is C. lentus. This C. supremus is the largest one. It's probably the cheapest way they did alt species since the models don't change proportions. I wonder how noticeable that eventual size difference will be on the baby sauropods though
Yup, you caught me having a memory lapse on the Camarasaurus size
Looks very very good! I'm planning on buying this game bc it just looks so awesome! Good job man
Thanks! Significant changes making for improved gameplay are coming in EA Update 11 and the first part of that is scheduled too arrive May 10.
The spinosaurus viewing gallery and the hell creek enclosures look very nice! And about the sign near the edmonto and trik enclosure,i noticed that the edmonto sign has the little bump on it's head, which is the iconic bump of Edmontosaurus regalis, while (i assume) the one in the enclosure is Edmontosaurus annectens.Would be nice if the developers gave us a unique sign for each major species/subspecies of the animals.
Yeah, it does. with their talk of separating all the alternative species out into their own thing and the possibility of information screens for each, maybe that will extend to the animals signs. After all, 2 out of 3 Edmontosaurus types in the game do not have the soft tissue crest.
The two-tiered viewing building is nice; it allows for visitors to hide from rain or shadow if they wish to. I'm excited to see everyone building the backstage areas focused more on the logistic side of the game and running a park, but more so if they know how to make it look pretty.!
It does indeed. I do hope we'll be getting more backstage preps in the future; things are a little sparse atm and a "one piece" tableland such like would be nice for conserving piece count
@@dinobob5401 Oh it's by no means finished. I would love to see more food products as props, for serving guests as well as feeding animals. Stuff like tables and other furniture is tricky because the real life variety is immense: mostly in zoos you'll see modern or utilitarian furniture which I don't mind but it wouldn't be so versatile
@@NewAge374 Me, too. I find some of the benches we've been getting of late more theme park than zoo in their design. For example, I have no idea how a zoo could manage to keep clean those Stone Age fur-covered rock benches.
Deinocheirus is my favourite dinosaur in prehistoric kingdom ,and i really like what you did with the enclosure!
Thanks!
Those tails are flippin’ massive! They look so disproportionate to the bodies. But it adds to the overall variety.
Tail tails for sure but relatively flat side to side. They look like they might be good for propulsion, but paleontologists argue about just how functional they are; par for the course for the controversial spinosaurus.
The Hapi skin looks really good in this sandy beach environment. I find myself indecisive what skins to use for Spinosaurus in particular: despite them all looking great, they seem very much inspired by their physical environment. The Tawaret skin wouldn't feel right in this habitat, because it's not muddy enough
Ah, you guessed why I picked it. lol. They do all look very good. The pair with "scutes" (or are they feature scales?) have high crocodilian energy but no real basis in the fossils AFAIK.
@@dinobob5401 Yeah, it's a part of paleontology that is still so full of assumptions and philogenetic bracketing. Even with some like T.rex and Psittacosaurs where partial skin impressions are found, it's not enough to describe the whole animal throughout their entire life, let alone be an indication for relatives.
@@NewAge374 Spinosaurus is practically the poster child for changing interpretations.
I am a really big fan of these series so far.I have never made a spinosaurus enclosure before, does it need a lot of water ?
Glad you like it! Spinosaurus definitely likes a lot of water.
I really like how it turned out! Are you excited for the new upcoming Leaellynasaura? Also,do guests actually go up the custom viewing platforms?
Thanks! I already have a place reserved for Leaelly. Guests do indeed go up on custom viewing platforms, although they are currently "not viewing animals properly" which means they don't go do viewing well at all and don't make donations. One hopes the next update will fix this.
The overlook into the care area is exciting and should be very popular when keepers are at work. Where did you get the idea?
Keepers working with animals while visitors watch them is an old staple of zoos, although some species tolerate more easily than others. I can't recall seeing a viewing area set above irl, but I have seen it done in a number of Planet Zoo and Prehistoric Kingdom zoos.
DinoBob, have you gotten the art book yet? I’m planning to buy it as soon as I have the money. I’m excited about the new animals in there! People on Discord have said there is one surprise animal in the book.
I have! There is indeed a previously unrevealed animal.
Looks really great!I have 2 questions, how long does it take to make a habitat this detailed? And whats your favourite 5 star animal in prehistoric kingdom?
There are actually three habitats in the video: 1 Muttaburrasaurus and 2 Carcharodontosaurus. How long they took is hard to say as the whole of Port Prehistorique was built with a lot of quick habitats and roughed-out buildings to get the park up to 5 stars; I have been going back to finish out habitats and buildings prior to making videos, so it's hard to know exact times. It's definitely much faster using the PK foliage brush with the curated selections (or making my own by selecting a small range of plants) than Planet Zoo style place them all individually mechanics. In PK I spent a fair bit of time tweaking what the brush puts down both for "necessity" (underwater terrestrial plants are silly) and esthetics.
As to favorite animals, that's hard. My usual response is the one I'm focussed on. There's a reason my handle is DINObob and not (insert favorite dinosaur here)bob.
@@dinobob5401 makes sense!
Yeah I do actually hope the devs will take our feedback over the size of Lambeosaurus: I think it would even make the larger skin even more impressive. On that topic, you must have confused this Chestnut skin with the Cosmic (bluish males, grey females) skin: the latter is inspired by Magnapaulia, being between 5-10% larger on average, but due to individual variation the Chestnut and Equine skin will approach that size too. Setting them next to each other, the difference to Parasaurolophus is rather jarring, but because of its alternate species it would kind of detract from their uniqueness if they were closer to the currently hypothesised average sizes. All three species would end up being very close to the P. jiayinensis size
I did confuse them; must have been blinded by the size. I'd be happy with all of them being their estimated real sizes.
Awesome as always.By the way,i need a little tip for my park, what animal that unlocks at 2 stars should i make an enclosure for?im currently saving up money and i only have 1.6 millions,i already have torvosaurus and i dont know who is the best one to get.
Sorry about the slow reply (I was away the whole weekend) but thanks! Naturally there are a lot of reasons to choose one's next animal whatever gets unlocked. Pdf you already have Torvo, you can add to your Jurassic animals at 3 stars with Camarasaurus.
@@dinobob5401 Oooh, thanks.I will save up a bit more money first to afford the research though.
Always got to watch the budget @@FantikSalmakii

Dino bob!!!!!
GReat idea to use concrete barriers painted green for both habitats: it makes the viewing experience less cluttered if you don't see erverything in the background. Also like the bamboo forest vibe for the Juxia!
Thanks!
I’ve never noticed the shadow animations - lovely to watch the leafy patterns flow over the animals, and the visitors cast their own shadows on each other. Is this a new feature?
I don't recall visitors casting shadows on each other. They previously been most noticeable for walking around with only their heads casting chides; but game settings and camera distance both affect shadow appearance
