We (Zsofia Marx and Ellen Bakker) are thrilled to announce the successful results of our first masterclass, "The Art of Silk Painting and Hat Making." For five months, our students have created beautiful hand-painted silk pieces and stunning hats from silk felted with wool, with each piece being unique. Twee weken geleden kreeg ik het bijzondere verzoek om een afscheidswade te maken. Hiervoor heb ik 7 meter zijde beschilderd. Deze heb ik in 2 delen vervilt met 7 meter Merino wol. Na het vilten bleven er 2 doeken over van 300x100 cm. Deze 2 delen heb ik aan elkaar genaaid, waardoor een ruime wade ontstond van 300x200 meter. After stretching out the silk on a frame, I start painting with a brush, without a clear-cut plan or idea. Sometimes I use an airbrush and sometimes I combine different techniques. It’s as if the colours choose themselves as they fill the surface in random patterns. Working like this, I thoroughly enjoy the surprise of the result created by the many layers of transparent paint.

Which colors are used for silk?
Thank you. Could you tell me how you secured the silk to the frame? It looked like hooks of some sort but that would put holes in your silk. I hope this question is not too intrusive.

Thank you. I mostly use Ponge 5 silk, because it's possible to felt afterwards.
