I absolutely agree with you, I’m a big proponent of feeding fresh, be it raw or lightly cooked as I believe the more processed the food the worse it is for our dogs (same as for us). However, the subject of the video is safe storage of different dog food types (kibble, wet, raw), so I had to talk about that ☺️ In my videos I try to educate dog owners and don’t want to judge their feeding choices. In an ideal world, all dogs would be fed fresh or minimally processed foods, but while this is still not the case, I’ll do my best to give people options of what they can do to improve kibble - be it a better storage or adding fresh foods to improve the nutritional value. I’m so glad to hear your dogs thrive on raw - my pup is nearly 5 and loves it too! Thanks so much for watching 😊

​@@dogslounge That's a great approach. I figured you made that creative decision since you not only included instructions on how to store kibble, but the other kinds of dog food as well. After all, we can't control other people's decisions, we can only help them mitigate any potential harmful effects of their decisions for their pups. The oxidation & packaging issues you highlighted is something most dog owners probably don't even think about so thank you for making this video. Good luck for your channel!

Most dogs will be fine digesting raw bones, however, if you’re worried, pick out bigger ones before feeding to your dog - that is, if you’re feeding a bigger fish to a very small dog. But if you want to feed sardines or other small fish, bones won’t be a problem as they’re very small 😊

It’s great you add fresh foods to the kibble, the more the better! However, you need to remember to ensure their nutrition needs are met. For example, ground meat is low in calcium which is needed for healthy bones so if you’ve reduced the kibble, you’d have to somehow replace calcium with either a raw meaty bone (ribs, wings, necks, etc) or bone meal. The same goes for iodine, zinc, and other ones. So I’d recommend contacting a certified canine nutritionist who’d formulate a recipe for your dog or find recipes formulated by trusted experts, ideally those that’d include the nutrient breakdown. It’s relatively easy to make a complete and balanced meal, so please don’t feel intimidated, but it’s best to research what’s best for your dog (in case they have any health problems). I'm very sorry to hear about your pup. It must've been a scary experience, especially for such a young dog. I'd monitor his feeding patterns and if this happens again, I'd suggest taking him to the vet as there may be a risk of dysphagia. If it only happened once and, as you said, the reason could've been that he ate too fast, then it wouldn't be anything to worry about, so keep checking up on him. It's worth to remember that dogs usually gulp down their food though, this is how they're made. In the wild, they'd bite off large hunks of prey and swallow and then their digestive system would do the rest. Hope this helps :)

@@dogslounge yes I have thank you! He seems to have a hard time digesting fresh lions mane. He either has bad diarrhea or throws up. But I will try again from a different farmer. Also, it’s been about a week and a half to two weeks since on C8…he seems to have improved. He doesn’t go to the hinge side of the door anymore (not once).

It's an exciting time when you both get to know each other and start to create that amazing bond, best of luck for the upcoming months and years :) Variety is the key and the more fresh and unprocessed foods you can give him (over time, that is, not in one go), the better he's going to feel overall. I hope you'll manage to get a copy as it's a really good book :) And there are lots of recipes you could eat yourself too! You'd probably have to add some salt and remove ingredients you wouldn't feel like eating but I'd say it's doable. And the beauty of fresh feeding your dog is that you don't have to go all in right away. You can start with the toppers and just add these to your pup's meals. Then, you can try the complete meals and again - do a bigger batch, portion and freeze. This way you won't have to cook every day. My dog is raw fed so I don't cook for him per se, but I use the same food formulator that was used to create the recipes in this book to formulate his meals and once a month when his food order is delivered, I spend 4-5 hours cutting, weighing and portioning his meals ready for the next month. These then go to the freezer and all I have to do is defrost the night before. Just a side note, the recipes may have lots of ingredients, especially the extras but these are added so that the recipes are complete, meaning, they adhere to the FEDIAF (European Pet Food Industry Federation) guidelines and meet metabolic basis for specific activity levels and don't exceed maximum nutrient requirements. This ensures all your pup's daily nutritional needs are met. Hope this helps!
